Fear-mongerer-in-chief: GOP wants to take away babies’ infant formula, vets’ checks, seniors’ benefits!
President Obama just completed a news conference this morning.
In sum, he “continues to believe he is right” about job-killing tax hikes; insists, like a Disney automaton, that he is the Captain of the Industries of the Future and will punish “energy sources of the past” (the oil and gas you are presently putting in your car) no matter the job-killing consequences; is simultaneously for fiscal responsibility and against GOP budget cuts because we the economic recovery is “fragile” and we should “stop trying to score political points” — except, by the way, we should be careful NOT TO TAKE INFANT FORMULA AWAY from poor mothers or VETERANS BENEFITS’ CHECKS AND SOCIAL SECURITY CHECKS from SENIOR CITIZENS!
Just a side note on the infant formula line: Guess he didn’t run that by the Missus, who is using the East Wing to engineer the tax code to disfavor formula feeding in favor of government-sponsored breast pumps. Oops.
Longtime readers know I am a vocal defender of breast-feeding moms, but Mrs. O’s Big Bosom initiative is another East Wing social engineering power grab. I’ll have much more in my column on this topic tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Obviously this BOY PRESIDENT has always made plenty of bucks to keep his household on an even keel… In my house when we have an “EMERGENCY”, like loss of job, or car repairs, or an unforeseen medical bill, we adjust our spending to correspond with our INCOME… SHAZAM, what a unique idea!!!
Yes we steal water bottles and blankets from the homeless, kick grandma to the curb and such evil deeds. I have been hearing that nonsense from these “caring” fools all my life. We Are Not Amused as it were. That these fools say such things is to be expected. That there are other fools dumb enough to believe it is heartbreaking.

CRISIS means go back to 2007 spending levels. Everyone suffers the same but we baseline at about 200B deficit.
Our guys keep expecting a friendly, back-yard game of touch, and Obeyme plays Smear. Get in the game, GOP!
2007 spending levels would cut the deficit down to 200B even with the war, even with the tax cuts.
From there, entitlements are a separate thing from the budget. They should have their own bill. Medicare is easy if you raise the deductible to 2000 which is paid by their insurance company anyway. . . so they’ll get higher supplement prices but the government saves money.
The fixes are easy, but you have to have leadership. Obama said they needed to have an adult conversation, but he has to be an adult to be involved in that conversation.
He’s all about the next election. It’s the only thing he’s concerned about for the rest of his life. Once he gets elected again, he won’t care. He wants to be seen as the guy who wants to give everyone everything and saving America from Republicans.
Far from it…his tactics are from Alinsky’s playbook – attack and demonize the opposition with lies to nuetralize its effectiveness and make it spends its efforts on defending itself instead of being on the offensive.
They better realize now that this isn’t friendly game but political, no holds barred, full body contact tackle, amped up by the left because time is running short for them.
The first President who actually HATES this country and wants to destroy it.
Conservatives had better grow a spine and start saying “HE+doubleL NO!” if they value OUR freedom.
We have the most corrupt, criminal takeover attempt that has ever been seen in this country barring FDR’s reign.

The vulgar amount of cynicism required to push the creation of this “Win the Future” meme belies the administration’s Ivy League roots. Who else could believe that Americans are so shallow and stupid?
It’s as if they think we won’t pay attention to the details or consider in any depth the choices we must make as a people.
You would think that all they believe we care about are celebrity awards shows or professional sports or working our virtual farms. (Well…)
Well, they thought we’d be stupid enough to elect a president and a congress that would swing the country way left to counterbalance what was supposedly a far right administration. (Ahem, they were correct there.)
Maybe the people of the United States are too far gone. Maybe we deserve this. Maybe fiscal restraint and responsibility simply aren’t compatible with representative democracy.
We all know that politics has been a dirty business since the gavel came down to open the first congress. The shenanigans at all levels of government are an embarrassment to the rational side of humanity.
But there is something special going on here. The enormity of the spending. The lack of accountability. The deep cynicism of the intelligence of the citizens of the USA.
I know that many people felt this way about FDR, but then WWII began and gave us purpose beyond the domestic tricks and faux justifications for defying the Constitution and expanding the federal government’s reach.
Not that the government has not done some good things, many of them justified, but this is so bad, so over-reaching, as to defy the trust in the most credulous among us (dailykos posters being the primary exception.)
I’m done with this. I need to find some more effective way to fight this. (Hopefully, that last line doesn’t trigger an NSA/FBI/Homeland Security investigation.)

Anyone who was paying any attention at all to this man – even during the campaign – knew that he had at best an arms-length relationship with the truth.
He got into the White House because he was able to cobble together a coalition of people who either weren’t paying attention, or who didn’t want to know the truth, or who knew the truth but were just as cynical and dishonest as he is, and based his entire governing philosophy on the premise of “Tell the rubes whatever they want to hear“.
His problem is that not everyone in this country is a week-minded fool, but he still hasn’t figured that out yet. Thus, he’s still relying on Jedi mind tricks long after their mesmerizing effect has worn off of all but the most fervently self-deluded.
Or to use a football analogy, you can only call “Hey diddle-diddle, run up the middle!” so many times in a row before the defense gets wise and starts stacking nine guys in the box. Once that happens and you start getting crushed in the backfield on every play, you either have to change your approach or… punt.

I agree that the salaries do need to be brought in line with their private sector counter parts, but I am not sure that it would really mean a whole lot of savings. In many casses it would be a wash as some salaries would go up and some would go down to bring them in line with their private sector counterparts.
What would be better is to do away with the public sector unions. Then cut all the redundant and uneccessary jobs (we could cut two in the department I work in). That is where the real savings to the taxpayer would come into play.

I’ve paid into SS all my life, but I don’t anticipate benefits being available when I retire. It indeed sucks, but do the math. But we’ve known this was going to happen for forty years, so I’ve made other arrangements. As you suggest, it’s not heroic – just pragmatic. You can’t have what is not there.
I’ve considered studying Mayan math and fuzzy math, to reach happier results and feel better about the future. Or maybe hallucinogenic drugs.
I don’t know much about Lady Bird, but I do remember travelling in the south down into Texas and marvelling at the beauty of those wild flowers along the highway. God bless her for that!

I too have come to the same conclusion and have used my VA check for to invest in my familys future. We diversified into gold and silver a few years ago and are happy that we have. Between all our investments we are looking pretty good no matter what the market looks like. We even have taken advantage of the latest economic downturn over the past year by remodeling our kitchen (custom cabinets, granite counter tops, tile floor, venetian plaster on the walls, and brand new appliances all higher end). We figure we can afford to do this at this time while labor and material are cheaper and can enjoy it till we decide to sell. When the market improves and we decide it is time to sell these improvements will allow for a quicker sale at a higher price.

I am getting so tired of the bs people here spew about govenment employees. I work for the State of California as an investigator. I took a 25% paycut when I left my private sector job to come here 12 years ago. For the first 7 years I contributed 10% of my salary to my pension until I became vested. I then paid some more based on my years of service in the Navy. The investigators in my department haven’t had any kind of raise in three years. Each of those years, our insurance premiums went up so our net salary has decreased the last 3 years. In 2010, I completed 85 cases. My “union” which I am forced to belong to does nothing for the employees. Still, I really like my job because everyday I have the chance to do good and help people who are victims of crime. I’m conservative, but, I am sick and tired of the ignorant people here spouting b.s. that I don’t earn my pay. You’re wrong.
Yeah, that Lady Bird was a real looker.

Have you considered moving to a state that right to work laws there without having to join an union? There are numerous states that are really nice to live in without all the crud you deal with. It sounds as if you could get a job in any one of these states with what you do.

The problem is that the whole “government worker” issue has been way too generalized. I too work for the government (on the Fed level). My job is one that is paid slighlty more than my private sector counterparts, but the private sector counterparts acutal make more as they are salary plus commision. I enjoy my job as well as I am helping bring more money into the military medical community that directly helps wounded warriors. I find it very fufilling work. To get my full penision potential I have to pay into it to gain back all the years of military service that I have. I don’t mind, because in the end it pays off.
The public sector unions are a huge problem. The only thing I have seen them do is protect the jobs of the stereotypical lazy government worker (that gives the rest of us a bad name). Luckily, at the fed level you are not forced to join the union which I am thankful for.
The problem with being a good Civil Service worker is that the thousands of others give you a bad name.
My wife, from Hawaii, was so amazed when she saw her first tumbleweed.
And so disappointed when she saw her first roadrunner. No, it wasn’t taller than a coyote, and didn’t go beep-beep.
So you are actually on the side of big government and hardly a conservative at all. Go to the Dems, they like victims.

Another problem is that the thousands of others see little benefit in being a good Civil Service worker, as you generally don’t get higher pay or bonuses for being good, so why bother. Most of them evidently have found out long ago that there is little or no hindrence to continue to be gainfully employed by government even if you are a mediocre or bad Civil Service worker. Thank you government employee unions!
He can’t be impeached. You may recall a very unpleasant episode where a certain Billy Jeff committed at least 3 counts of felony perjury under oath, malfeasance and disgracing the office of president. There was a better case to impeach Clinton – no doubt about the facts and GOP controlled both chambers – yet the results were predictable. Acquital right down party lines.

Last time I flew out of DFW I had a very interesting conversation with a gal seated next to me. Said she either worked at Freddie Mac or Fannie May and their offices, especially in the computer areas, were full of H1-B workers from India and Pakistan? Let me see if I understand this: we have millions out of work and we still need to bring in IT engineers from foreign countries? If true, our entire congress needs to be fired on the spot with loss of all benefits. How much did we bail Freddie/Fannie out with taxpayer money again?

You might not believe this, but I had a hummingbird feeder so I could see the birds in my front window. One day I heard a gosh horrible racket and looked out the window. On the fence was a road runner on the fence trying to get the humming birds. He did not get them. They are everywhere in the spring along the road. Tell you wife, they do not do the thing in the cartoon! Tumble weeds, well that is Gods telling us a weed goes and goes with the wind and finally makes a new life. Come see us in Tx again and see if you can see a horntoad in N TX. They are just wonderful and I am happy to say as a child we have seen these amazing critters.
