Defund-a-palooza: Planned Parenthood, Obamacare on notice
I am going to celebrate the bipartisan passage of the De-Fund Planned Parenthood amendment by…eating Ramen, of course!
The GOP Rep. Mike Pence-sponsored proposal passed on a bipartisan vote this afternoon 240-185. Nine Democrats joined the GOP majority. Seven Republicans crossed over to hold hands with the Planned Parenthood predation enablers.
Steve Ertelt at LifeNews reports:
he House of Representatives today voted overwhelmingly to scrap funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business and ensure it can’t receive any federal funds through any departments or programs.
House members approved the Pence amendment on a 240-185 vote with 9 Democrats joining most Republicans to support de-funding the abortion business. Another 7 Republicans sided with most all of the pro-abortion Democrats in the lower chamber in voting for the pro-abortion organization to receive taxpayer funds.
The fight to stop Planned Parenthood funding is not over as the amendment is part of a continuing resolution bill needed to fund the federal government and the funding apparatus still faces Senate action and likely conference committee action — which could ultimately leave the amendment out of the final draft of the bill that goes to pro-abortion President Barack Obama.
Matt Smith, the president of Catholic Advocate, applauded the vote in comments to LifeNews.com.
“We need to get government spending under control to get our economy back on track,” he said. :If there is one industry in this country that should never receive a tax-payer subsidy, it is Planned Parenthood. Thank you to Congressman Pence and the House of Representatives for listening to the voice of the American people who do not want their tax dollars supporting the abortion business.”
The vote followed a terse debate which has pro-life lawmakers pointing out abuses at Planned Parenthood and abortion advocates accusing pro-life lawmakers of hurting women.
Congressman Mike Pence of Indiana led the way in fighting for the amendment to ensure that none of the federal funds in any program or department would go to the abortion business, which does more than 324,000 abortions annually and receives more than #363 million in federal, state and local taxpayer funds.
“I believe that ending an innocent human life is morally wrong,” Pence told his colleagues. “I also believe it is morally wrong to take the taxpayer dollars of millions of pro-life Americans and use them to fund organizations that provide and promote abortion-like Planned Parenthood of America.”
On another front, GOP Rep. Steve King’s Obamacare de-funding measure passed 241-187.
I’ll post roll call vote info as soon as it’s available.

Mo’ bettah!
The Senate can’t add the money back in, can they?
Well, you have to give the house a thanks for these two that were voted to defund! The have been busy bees today for helping America! I doubt these will pass in the senate and bho will be sure to veto these.
L
just heard it on Rush!!
Thank you House Rs….
let’s see if the Senate Rs have the guts to continue the ACTION!!!!
C-CS
RC- do you have the list of the evil 7-I’ll post them on my site as well…
C-CS
No, Michelle is probably efforting that as we speak.
Does this that Planned Parenthood will be relocating their slaughter houses to the back alleys?
Reid obviously won’t allow anything to pass the Senate. That is his problem. The House should continue to send over these bills until he folds. Democrats have no testicular fortitude. If the Senate Democrats shut down the federal government, it will not harm anyone but the bloated federal bureaucrat employees making $100,000+ year. Keep sending the same Planned Parenthood Defunding and Repeal of ObamaCare bills to the Senate.
Can’t wait for Reid to fail his annual pap smear.
I’m going to consider this wonderful news for now. With the evil Reid and Pelosi still sitting in the Congress, I’ll have to wait to see what happens. In the meantime, I thank Mr. Pence and all those who voted in favor of this. A pox on those who didn’t.
Where exactly is that chorus of “No difference between Reps and Dems”
If we can gain control of the senate in 2012, there is a lot of work to be done
This is just the start
To all the Democrats that voted to fund abortion through Planned Parenthood: Never, ever state that abortion is not public funded through tax-payer dollars. Your party has always known is was federally funded and have always been the reason why it was federally funded.
Final outcome not-withstanding, this Congressional body did the right and decent thing, according to the power granted it by the citizens of the US. These are the votes we must insist on. These votes divide the sheep from the goats as it were. We can not target our enemies properly until they are properly identified as enemies. Elections should become clearer with more of these votes.
An unfortunate side effect of this legislation is that the abortion mill (“Women’s Clinic”) down the street from me will have to move to a bigger strip mall, and higher more workers.
The doctor will be able to turn in his 2010 Jag and get a Rolls.
I do agree that the Republicans in Congress need to play hardball even if it means a government shutdown. What I do not agree with is that the only people hurt are government employees making over $100,000 +. I am a government employee who makes $38,000 a year (net). A shutdown will mean that I do not get paid. This is a sacrifice that I feel must be made in order to ensure that our nation gets back onto fiscal footing. I have put money aside for just such an event, but to make such a broad claim is not being very realistic at all.
Like I said, if using up all my savings to get through a government shutdown so that our nation survives is necessary then I am all for it. All I ask is that you do some research before you make such a blanket statement in the future.
I also see that the House voted to defund Obama’s Czars. This has been a great day so far.
I love seeing that. It shows that someone is actually listening to US!! Too bad, however, that it won’t get passed. We will need to wait until 2012 when we have control of both House and Senate AND a Republican POTUS in order to undo the harm that has been done. We just have to hang on and survive until then. Probably gridlock for the next two years.

First we have to prevent the RNC from foisting another amnesty loving RINO on us. That’s most of the pack expressing interest in running…..
According to ACLJ funding to strip funding has passed!!!
And with many states considering doing away with Presidential Primaries, to save money, that may just be that much harder.
To paraphrase “one of the greatest First Ladies ever”:
For the first time in 5 years I’m proud of my Congress.
:b
Yes, but just the House of Commons. The House of Lords will block the legislation.
Three cheers for the House!
Hip, hip, …
Hip, hip, …
Hip, hip, …
HOORAH!
Don’t get sucked in by the “defunding” stuff. For one thing, it still has to pass the “Gangs of McCain” Senate and then there is this vote today where most of the House RINOs, including the House leadership including Eric Cantor and Kevin McCarthy, voted with the Dems to kill the amendment adding the missing $22 billion cuts that would have accomplished the $100 billion promised.
And once again, Tea Party sweetheart and ethanol welfare queen Rep. Kristi Noem (R-S.D.) voted with the big government RINOs.
We have a lot of work to do. It’s all kabuki theater again. Our side really sucks.
It’s about time that conservatives really started flexing the muscles they gained in Nov 2010. Im loving this. Give me my country back!!!!!
Geez, Phil, I was just starting to have some

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss
New bipartisan gang of six forms in Senate. (Bipartisan means R & D gang up on U.S.)
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2011/02/17/AR2011021707001.html
What the heck is Coburn doing in that gang?
Why am I not surprised? And now with a dozen states considering eliminating their presidential primaries, there is less reason than ever to trust the GOP.
It sure looks to me like the fix is in. One world government, here we come.
Coburn and Durbin?!?!
Yeah, this can only end well…
Thank you, GOP and pro-life Dems.
It used to be, “I’ll support your pork, if you will support my pork”.
My hope is that now it will be, “I’ll support your spending cuts, if you will support my spending cuts”.
Still waiting for someone to standup and advance a repeal of the Prescription Drug Bill.
Yeah, that worked so well last time….
I’m all for that. I was opposed to it when Bush proposed it.
Find work in the private sector like the rest of us. You will not find any sympathy with me or any other Conservative. $100K or $38K… you have been given a privilege and guarantee of employment and benefits on the taxpayers dime. Try earning money off the trough. Millions of Americans have lost their jobs, lost their pensions, lost their homes, lost their savings, lost everything. But they moved on with their lives. I have family members; brothers, sister, mother, cousin who all have been affected. They lost their jobs, but eventually found work they felt they could not perform either physically or psychologically. They work in the private sector just like me. They cannot find a job with any government agency. If you cannot go on with your life, you need a wakeup call. I lost everything after 9/11. I was self employed. None of my outstanding invoices were paid. Those companies folded, failed, went bankrupt. I found three part time jobs then got back on my feet. Back to normal, self employed once again. I don’t participate in recessions or government shutdowns. It’s called self sufficiency.
There are certain functions of government that are not only legitimate, but absolutely essential – the military, law enforcement and intelligence collection being the primary examples. A government shutdown means that their families aren’t being fed, either. That doesn’t mean that I’m against it, if that’s what it takes. But let’s understand the stakes for everybody, not just the overpaid bureaucrats at the top that we love to criticize.
The Dark(er) Side Of Progressivism.
Planned parenthood does much more than provide abortions.
I do not agree with late term abortions, nor that it should be used as a form of birth control.
Using taxpayer money for abortions is illegal.
However, which is cheaper:
1. Raising a child that the parent doesn’t want and has no business raising on the taxpayer’s dime, or
2. paying for birth control so the pregnancy doesn’t happen in the first place.
This seems like a no brainer to me.
