In Wisconsin, SEIU president Mary Kay Henry, Andy Stern’s successor, will drop in for a mob pep talk and Democrat canvassing.

Over the past week, I’ve been sharing e-mails from public school teachers — compulsory union members — who are disgusted by their Big Labor bosses’ power-preservation attempts.

Another educator in Pennsylvania shared the note the teachers’ union there sent out to members orchestrating “solidarity” events:

Members, Please wear red Tuesday to show solidarity with Wisconsin teachers!

Speak up for workers’ rights

Show your support:

Wear red on Tuesday, Feb. 22

Sign the online petition supporting workers’ rights.

Print “We Are One” stickers to share with your colleagues.

ACTION NEEDED – The right to bargain is under attack

Dear PSEA Member,

On Tuesday, February 22, make a small but important gesture to help your colleagues across the nation. PLEASE WEAR SOMETHING RED TO WORK. As I write this e-mail, education employees and other public employees in Wisconsin and Ohio are being threatened with losing their right to collectively bargain. Many years of hard fought gains may be wiped out with a single vote in their legislatures.

Wisconsin: Governor Scott Walker is proposing to wipe away decades of collective bargaining for teachers, support staff, and other public workers in Wisconsin. The right to organize, the right to bargain health insurance or prep time, the right to have a voice in the profession – all of those things and more are under attack in Walker’s budget bill.
Ohio: Sen. Shannon Jones revealed the language of Senate Bill 5, a bill that will have a significant impact on public employees. SB5 eliminates collective bargaining for state employees, police officers, fire fighters and employees of higher education institutions, and significantly undermines collective bargaining for K-12 employees.

What would happen if you didn’t have a union to bargain your salary and benefits?

* What would your salary be?
* How much would you be paying for health insurance?
* Would you have a pension?

PSEA members are beginning to ask how they can show their support for their colleagues in Wisconsin and Ohio and to demonstrate their support for unions having the right to collectively bargain.

Here are two things you can do to show your support for the right to collectively bargain:

1. Show your support by wearing red on Tuesday Feb. 22. Take pictures at your work site and send them to PSEA Communications or share them on PSEA’s Facebook page. Call your colleagues to make sure they know about wearing red on Tuesday. Our theme is, “We Are One.”

2. Sign the online petition:

In Solidarity,
Jim Testerman
PSEA President

As the SEIU is standing firm with the unrest taking place in Wisconsin, they have planned nationwide “Union Solidarity Action Rallies” – including one in Denver.

    http://action.seiu.org/page/s/solidarityaction

And the Tea Party is planning a counter-rally. Come stand firm with Wisconsin Governor’s budget-cutting proposal, free enterprise, and balancing the budget.

Bring your signs, your flags, your friends – or just bring your body down on your lunch break.

Please be aware, the SEIU will have a permit for the actual grounds. Be respectful of this. If you are on the grounds, do not be disruptive or they can have you removed. We will be meeting on the sidewalk on the west side of the Capitol – where we will express our First Amendment rights and cannot be asked to leave.

As a conservative union member, I am amazed at the lack of reality these people have to the state of the union. If you had a strike by the dishwashers at your local food place, how many would “stand” with them? lol Or how about the grass cutters going on strike. Let me guess, hire new grass cutters. When you have 10% unemployment these people should just be thankful they have a job! Especially when you consider they get there money from us, the taxpayers. It’s like federall/state subsidized union thuggery? What a joke.

    Conjures up an old saying from the ’50′s;

“I’d rather be dead than red”….

For the non-union supporters of these people, ask yourselves this question:

How does higher pay, and greater non-contributary benefits for public union workers benefit the average American?

Do our childrens test scores increase when teachers get paid more? That would be “no!” Their scores actually go down.

Does putting more money in union workers pockets help put more money in YOUR pockets? No, it relieves you of that “burden.”

I think every “sick out” employee, who is violating collective bargaining agreements, or statute, should be docked pay, or fired, and have half their accrued pension benefits returned to the state coffers.

These public unions have a monopoly over the state and federal government, and that needs to be remedied or we all go down, but not before many, many acts of violence. The liberals just can help themselves; they talk “peace”, but when they don’t get their way, violence is their only recourse.

Their signs say that the government position is “unfair,” but whose position is the unfair one? The union workers want more, for nothing…no skin in the game. That position is unrealistic, and un-American.

The GOP needs to be more vocal in highlighting the the disgusting rhetoric being spewed at these rallies by these union thugs and turning it back against the left. It was only a matter of weeks ago that obama was in Tucson waxing poetic about a more civil tone in our national political discourse; and now the people on their side are openly doing the exact opposite. This is served up for us on a silver platter! The hypocrisy is glaring. Boehner, Cantor and the rest of them should be publicly demanding that the President openly and clearly condemn the smears and generally vile content of these rallies.

Any effort to engage the left in civil political discourse is ultimately futile; and no one should know this better than Bush. I would love to have the public union benefits conversation in an adult-like, rational setting; as their side wouldn’t have a leg to stand on. The left lacks the capacity to put forth a reasonable, cogent argument in support of their position because it has no fundamental basis in logic or reality. They are forced to drag the conversation into the gutter, because that is the only environment in which their ideology can thrive. It’s impossible to be civil with a sputtering leftist degenerate who sees childish name-calling and repugnant smears as adequate replacements for a sound argument based on fact.

The Dem City Council are seeming more for the Unions than for their constituents. The tide IS turning.

I, frankly, am thrilled by these unions’ grand showcasing. The more they do this, the less respect they will receive from the vast majority of Americans. I hope they keep it up. Down will go the unions and with them the Democrat Party will follow.

I asked months ago elsewhere why do we even have public unions – who are they protecting them from – the taxpayers? I get the appeal of knowing what you’ll make today, next year, 5 years from now, etc. I was in the USN for 11 years. But in the service, the slackers aren’t coddled/condoned/carried by the productive – they get squared away. Making the unions earn the “right” to collect dues yearly isn’t nearly strong enough, but it’s a start. Now they just need to follow through and not buy into the msm’s “help” – it’s the R’s turn to say “I won” and since they ARE backed by the voters, any backlash will be astroturf!

What’s deliciously ironic about the union thugs in Wisconsin is their obliviousness to how they tar themselves with their own “dictator” comparisons.

Generally speaking, when the tin-pot dictator starts losing his grip — and knows that he’s losing it, even though he’ll never admit it — his efforts to hang on become increasingly desperate, finally ending up in violence before recognition sets in that the jig really is up and then he flees the country.

The union thugs are losing their grip; they know it, but can’t bring themselves to admit it; so what we’re witnessing now is the last throes of hysterical desperation.

If the thugs brandishing the signs comparing the governor of Wisconsin to Mubarak want a truly accurate depiction of what they’re shrieking about, they need to put their own portraits on those signs.

Then they need to emulate their donk slave-masters, and flee.

First, thank you Michelle for allowing me to join the fray here. Always appreciate your work and the thoughfull commentary of your guests.

I just wanted to make the observation that this issue of preserving the public employee unions in their current cancerous state of exsistance, is essential to the “Sovietization” the Alinsky crowd is planning for our floundering Republic.

Think about it, what is the biggest competition of the Federal Government? It’s the States, so of course the Feds are going to use incrementali sttactics to slowly bring the States to financial ruin, so that they can in turn “bail them out” aka own them like G.M. This is the reason Obamao and his thugs in Organizing for America, along with Trumka and his thugs are taking such a desperate stand here. This is an essential part of the Clouard Piven strategy.

They are implementing the Clourd Piven strategy at the Federal Level, we all know that, but this is how it will work at the State level. The States can’t be allowed to do things right, be solvent, and therfore a check on the consolidation of Federal Power. The Commucrats and the Rinos, our statist elite, understand the states must be kept in debt by means such as these.

The independent State, thumbing it’s nose at the idea of doing things Uncle Sam’s way, will not be tolerated by those who wish to “fundamentally change America”. Most of your Reps, in the House, Senate, and most of your Governors, are pwned and controlled already by the interest of the Feds in this regard. They want to be in the fold of the ones who really have the power baby, and representing your state ain’t where it’s at.

Get it now? Doesn’t it make sense who your fraud Governor or Representative is now? I just hate playing the stuck on stupid card, ya know what I mean? These criminals aren’t stupid and they know damn well what they are doing.

I have no doubt that the money is thrown at the teaching part only, but the education part is measured only at the individual student level. If the kids don’t GET it, it is not education.

Normally I reflect more than I comment, but I would just like to share this with you: Andy Stern has permission from the Secret Service to drive his big purple SEIU bus right up to the front door of the White House, and has done so several times in the past 2 years.

Sometimes he drops off sacks of money, and sometimes he picks up sacks of money. The only thing you can count on for sure is that when he shows up, money will change hands.

As you probably guessed, he’s a big supporter of Big Guy’s “sharing the wealth” and WTF plans.

Watching the teachers in Wisconsin banging drums, pots and pans, and trashcans, shouting and yelling in the State Capital building where government business is supposed to be conducted, I can only chuckle at the thought of these same teachers demanding that their students sit down, be still and quiet, and not interrupt the process of classwork. They must only observe the adage, “Do what I say, not what I do.”
Seems they all need a double dose of Ritalin and a nap.

    One thing I have wondered.

What would be the downside to changing the annual re-certification of the unions called for in the Walker bill to a different time frame? Say twice a decade, or every other year, or whatever.

It would still accomplish the same thing, but it might make the Democrats return to the state to call the quorum. As it shows a “compromise” given by the Republicans, they could try to use that as cover for returning. I hate to give the Dems anything, because they do not deserve it, but if all we are giving them is a symbolic change, does it really matter?

I’m all for the recertification annually, which should bust the union completely the first time it comes up for a vote. Would the legislation lose it’s impact if they change that time frame, or if they dropped that portion completely?

Would they not still have to make the contributions to their pensions and medical plans, stop having the government collect their dues, and stop forcing everyone to join the union as a condition of their employment?

We have got to get out in front of this. The Union bosses won’t be budged, but if we can start convincing the rank and file that there won’t be any pensions, there won’t be any health insurance, and your union contracts will have to be renegotiated from scratch if the state goes under. We need to start convincing the rank and file that their Union bosses only care about lining their own pockets and don’t care one whit about the average worker. The Unions have failed and they must be either replaced or eliminated or there is no hope for the future. If the Unions win here, then any hope for fiscal sanity is lost.

Just look at Greece and Europe…there’s no money left for “the pensioners”.
Keep up with these CB demands, and you will be the brick that seals up the wall of opportunity in your state and in America.

I thank God I live in ND.
I’m a union member. But our NDEA does not have the power that these unions in compulsory states have.
I choose membership mostly for the legal representation it affords.
Otherwise, it does little for me.
Our state is trying to do something about the coming pension bust.
I do NOT think that my pension should be guaranteed when someone’s in the private sector is not.
    This is ridiculous.
My pension is 1/2 paid by me & 1/2 by the distrct.
But all districts here in ND are different that way.
If my pension loses $$ in the stock market, then that’s the breaks.
You have to prepare for retirement in other ways.
I am still amazed that I can officially retire in my late 50s (though the amount I’d get would be small compared to retiring in my mid-60s).
An keep in mind I only started this profession in my early 30s.
Being able to retire that soon is insane.
