In Wisconsin, SEIU president Mary Kay Henry, Andy Stern’s successor, will drop in for a mob pep talk and Democrat canvassing.

***

Over the past week, I’ve been sharing e-mails from public school teachers — compulsory union members — who are disgusted by their Big Labor bosses’ power-preservation attempts.

Another educator in Pennsylvania shared the note the teachers’ union there sent out to members orchestrating “solidarity” events:

Members, Please wear red Tuesday to show solidarity with Wisconsin teachers!

Speak up for workers’ rights

Show your support:

Wear red on Tuesday, Feb. 22

Sign the online petition supporting workers’ rights.

Print “We Are One” stickers to share with your colleagues.

ACTION NEEDED – The right to bargain is under attack

Dear PSEA Member,

On Tuesday, February 22, make a small but important gesture to help your colleagues across the nation. PLEASE WEAR SOMETHING RED TO WORK. As I write this e-mail, education employees and other public employees in Wisconsin and Ohio are being threatened with losing their right to collectively bargain. Many years of hard fought gains may be wiped out with a single vote in their legislatures.

Wisconsin: Governor Scott Walker is proposing to wipe away decades of collective bargaining for teachers, support staff, and other public workers in Wisconsin. The right to organize, the right to bargain health insurance or prep time, the right to have a voice in the profession – all of those things and more are under attack in Walker’s budget bill.
Ohio: Sen. Shannon Jones revealed the language of Senate Bill 5, a bill that will have a significant impact on public employees. SB5 eliminates collective bargaining for state employees, police officers, fire fighters and employees of higher education institutions, and significantly undermines collective bargaining for K-12 employees.

What would happen if you didn’t have a union to bargain your salary and benefits?

* What would your salary be?
* How much would you be paying for health insurance?
* Would you have a pension?

PSEA members are beginning to ask how they can show their support for their colleagues in Wisconsin and Ohio and to demonstrate their support for unions having the right to collectively bargain.

Here are two things you can do to show your support for the right to collectively bargain:

1. Show your support by wearing red on Tuesday Feb. 22. Take pictures at your work site and send them to PSEA Communications or share them on PSEA’s Facebook page. Call your colleagues to make sure they know about wearing red on Tuesday. Our theme is, “We Are One.”

2. Sign the online petition:
http://www.educationvotes.nea.org/nationalpetition

In Solidarity,
Jim Testerman
PSEA President

When will folks finally realize that Unions have always been about exploiting their fellow workers in other fields.

The ONLY way belonging to a Union is beneficial to it’s members is if OTHER workers work at lower wages. Otherwise the overall cost of living would rise proportionately and there would be NO benefit accrued to those in a Union. (they get 20$ for their labor but only have to pay for goods produced by those making less therefore their money goes farther and they can live a life more comfortable than those who work for less).

Unions were originally about job safety, job security (prevention of job loss at whim) and a share of the profits made by the employer.

Now most employers are legally obliged to follow certain standards and the public is educated enough to refuse to be endangered or exploited just to survive (except of course for the illegal aliens who are either working a dangerous job at substandard pay or jobs that are physically demanding and/or temporary with no security).

Government unions stand the positive things a union can do on it’s head; there ISN’T any profit to share in government, just higher taxes and NO ONE gets fired for incompetence or mal/misfeasance. (once again union workers exploiting their fellow workers).

The unions have also formed an unholy alliance with a political party to gain control of the power to determine what those union contracts will be composed of by spending union dues seized from workers and distributed by the Union bosses to those politicians willing to accede to the wishes of the UNION.

Like so many other situations exposed by the economic downturn, the bloated, unfair and exorbitant wages and benefits of government workers are being shown as being unsustainable, that the politicians have been/are colluding with the unions to steal from the taxpayers and don’t care for the burden they have put on the average taxpayer.

THIS IS THE BIGGEST FIGHT WE FACE NEXT TO DEFEATING THE MAKE BELIEVE MEDIA.

If the kids have school tomorrow (there’s a storm on its way tonight), I’ll be stopping by their school to see if there are many red shirts on my way down to Annapolis. I’m tired of this crap – I’m tired of unions thinking they can bully those of us footing the bill for their shenanigans, both the unwilling union members and the taxpayers at large.

I support Gov. Walker, and I’m sad that I live in a state with a governor who is a part of the problem instead of the solution. Maryland is just about lost – we’re just too close to the sinkhole of DC.

We are a Right-to-Work state, no state debt, balanced budget constitutionally required, low unemployment, low taxes, a one-house, non-partisan legislature that meets only for 60 days, local control of schools and lots and lots of guns.

Not only do these public union workers get the sweet healthcare and pension deals….they also game the system that is already rigged in their favor. For example…for many I know their pension is based on an average of their last few years total salary (including overtime). So what do they do? They work tons of overtime (mostly not needed) so that their pension reflects this bloated number.

The heck with them. Go Governor Walker. Stand strong!

I love how these union gasbags solemnly intone “they have awakened a sleeping giant” as organizers take other union workers from other jobs and put them on buses to Madison, WI.

They are correct about waking a sleeping giant.

Unfortunately for the union thugs, however, it is the giant of the majority of Americans who are now paying attention to the danger of public sector unions and the attendant fraud and power-hungry greed.

As a student of Civil War history, it reminds me of the battle of Gettysburg, where neither side planned or expected the battle to be fought there. Almost without the initial intention of the commanders of either force, the battle grew and intensified into one of the most pivotal battles of that conflict.

And thus has become Madison, WI the unlikely ground zero for a major battle to open the contest of 2012.

Stand firm, Wisconsin. Hard-working non-union Americans have your back.

The nuclear option will be making the collective bargaining bit a separate piece of legislation, which does not require the 3/5s quorum, and ergo, no democratic senators. The WI Senate goes into session tomorrow and they’ll be passing some stuff that traditional Democrat constituencies will not like. This will get interesting.

I would love nothing more than to drive down to Annapolis and put a conservative damper on our little version of SEIU Thugfest, but I can’t take time off to run around and wave a sign. My eyes were opened to the reality of unions when I was a Teamster. Unions are there to mainly protect the lazy, the inept, and those without a real work ethic. As a part-time package loader with a nationwide brown-themed delivery service, I was required to join the union. At the time, I was proud to do so. My dad was a union shipfitter for 37 years, so I was raised to believe that unions were there for the little guy. It didn’t take long before a shop steward told me that my union dues were just the price of admission to work in his hub, and that I should expect nothing from the union as long as I was a part-time employee. Real eye-opener. Kinda ironic that the union made me turn into a conservative…

Anyone else wonder what the difference between a “candlelight vigil” and a “rally” would be with these goons?

Not that I’m much for political vigils, but doesn’t it help if something, like, tragic is the motivation for it?

The only tragedy I see here is what has happened to the country, and as the SEIU only want more of that tragedy, they don’t seem to qualify.

Public employee unions simply should not be permitted. Even letting them strike for higher wages is nuts.

Now that the state of Wisconsin is showing the way maybe Congress can find a way to eliminate things like the “Doc Fix” from the budget.

Will these protesters be real union members, or the poorly paid substitutes the UFCW poses in front of WalMart?

Inquiring minds don’t care – we know we can get more for less elsewhere.

The entitlement state is getting worse.

We now have millions of people believing that they are simply entitled to the fruits of others’ labor.

It has gotten out of hand and threatens to bring this country down, like an ignored cancer within that now threatens to kill the body. Those who want to cut the cancer out are doing the right thing and must withstand and ignore the indignant mobs of moochers and looters.

    Ayn Rand was a prophet!

What would happen if you didn’t have a union to bargain your salary and benefits?

Gee… I don’t know. Maybe you could bargain for yourself like those of us in the private sector do? Maybe your salary would be commensurate with your experience, performance and initiative? MAYBE you could choose your own benefit plan?

Oh wait… then the Union bosses would have to work for real… oh…

And tomorrow the Monster Trumka Tour rolls into my town – Hotlanta. Which should be REAL fun since Georgia is a bigtime right-to-work state. We love unions about as much as we love kudzu and the affront to humanity that is unsweet tea.
