It’s official: Rahm Emanuel is Chicago’s new boss

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 22, 2011 09:20 PM

Meet the new boss. Same as the old.

AP and CNN have called the Chicago mayor’s race for Rahm Emanuel:

Rahm Emanuel, the former chief of staff to President Barack Obama, won the Chicago mayoral election Tuesday, topping the 50% threshold to avoid a run-off vote, CNN projects.

Must have been those gung-ho Obama radio ads that put him over the top, eh?

From the Chicago Tribune: “Emanuel and his family were gathered in a room above the hall’s main floor. They sat on a small red couch as they watched returns come in on a flat screen television. Emanuel seemed giddy as he watched his lead grow.”

Just a reminder: What Rahm has to look forward to:

- A $654.7 million city budget hole.

- Massively underfunded city pensions.

- Public school disaster.

- Public housing disaster.

- 10.8 percent unemployment.

- Public corruption And more corruption. And more corruption.

- Consistent ranking as one of the nation’s most miserable and stressful cities.

Good luck, man. Enjoy the “giddiness” while it lasts…

Why did they waste the voters time with a farce of an election? He is Obama’s anointed one for Chicago.

OK….I’ve been a big Chicago sports fan for nearly all of my life…Bears and Cubs. I’ve always liked the city itself, for some reason – not sure why.

However, I despise the corruption, politics, corruption, people voting for the same people over and over, corruption and the inability for the citizens of the city to realize their mistakes and correct them at the ballot box. Did I mention the corruption??

The unbelievable ignorance of the voters to elect this worm by essentially a landslide is disgusting. I have not more sympathy for Chicago residents than I do the morons who continued to re-elect Mayor Nagin in New Orleans after his national display of incompetance in 2005.

They deserve the leaders they elect.

Those who didn’t vote for Rahm, but don’t leave the city…..you mystify me.

There’s definitely an energy about Chicago that I don’t feel in other cities, except NYC. It’s beautiful, ugly, scary, expensive, crime ridden, run by influence, etc. I love the streets that go on for miles- like Western Avenue. I think it’s like twenty-six miles long. There are still people that have lived their whole lives in the same neighborhood. I find that so amazing. I’ve asked people why they voted for who they voted for and the response is that person is one of them. The Daleys from Bridgeport, specifically. Beers at the corner tavern, kissing babies at the tiny neighborhood grocer, the little favors here and there….that’s what I was told gets them to the polls.

I grew up on the southside. When I was 17 I left Chicago never to return. I couldn’t stand the politics. Corruption is part of the fabric. It is tied to “getting things done”. The reality, with the unions, is that nothing gets done. That is why the population of the city has shrunk. The city has been gutted. Racism is worse in Chicago than anywhere I have lived.

Al Capone would be proud of Rhambo’s success. No problemo with the bad City economy–just raise taxes on the little people–aka peasants–to fix everything.

Chosen by his peers! How precious…

Hey, Chicago…no more complaining about corruption. No more complaining about your plight in the arena of violence, and deficits, both moral and monetary! You now have a man with a direct line into the White House…start singing; “We’re in da money…” Yeah, about that…we’ll see.

You wanted another crooked politician to lead your crooked city, and you got your wish.

I personally would have thought that Carol Moseley Braun would have been more to your liking…I guess Chicago really is a RACIST city! Not electing a equally crooked person of color to lead your unfair city exposes the depth of her citizens ignorance, and hypocracy.

Even the “progressives” I know are not happy about Rahm’s election.

Even a current hard-core NYC liberal (that I know from high school years ago) is posting angry messages in their Facebook status.

“Emanuel seemed giddy as he watched his lead grow.” He wasn’t sure that the folks at the polls were really gonna throw out enough of the Repub vote. Now he knows that even his dreams can come true.
    About granite’s post:
Jean Genie is really about Iggy Pop, (James Osterberg), but, in a convoluted way, I can see it applying to Raumbo, although I hate my memories of the unapologetic daddy of punk rock being corrupted by Emanuel. (Yes, I’m strange.)
I have problems with Raum’s looks because he reminds me of Robt. Downey Jr…I’m afraid that he will make a movie about Raum, (like he did with Chaplin), and I’ll be forced to boycott his movies. :-( Since I think Downey looks like Iggy too, I’d rather he do a movie about him; it would be a lot more entertaining…
