Gaddafi Was Jeremiah Wright Before Jeremiah Wright Was Cool

By Doug Powers  •  February 24, 2011 12:47 PM

**Written by Doug Powers

As the Obama administration’s response to the situation in Libya stampedes decisively toward “strongly worded letter addressed to nobody in particular” territory, Aaron Klein has written about Barack Obama’s longtime paster, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, and his connection to Muammar Gaddafi.

Wright is quoted as saying the following the year before the 2008 election: “When [Obama's] enemies find out that in 1984 I went to Tripoli to visit [Gadhafi] with Farrakhan, a lot of his Jewish support will dry up quicker than a snowball in hell.”

The quote originally appeared in the New York Times in 2007.

Everybody remembers Wright’s notorious “God damn America” sermon from 2003, but Gaddafi beat Wright to it by 30 years, and it isn’t difficult to see why a kinship developed.

Time Magazine, April 1973:

When a Libyan student asked Gaddafi this month why he did not throw the Americans out of Libya, the colonel replied, ‘Nothing would please me more, but who else would pump the oil that we need? God damn America.’”

Separated at birth…

    Surely you’re joking. It won’t be done because BHO is like-minded with Gadaffy and envies the way he runs his country…..and BHO is NO Ronald Reagan and will never be.

    LG, during the ’08 campaign, I posted facts about B. Hussein Obama here at MM, and got ridiculed for it.

    Facts such as his father’s and stepfather’s being muslim;
    his attending a muslim school for ?2? years or so;
    his studying the koran and reciting the shahada;
    and the existence of taqiyya – deception – as very much a part of islam.

    I said that it was immaterial what religion Obama said he was.

    What counted was what the muslim world considered him to be.

    If, because Obama recited the shahada, the muslim world considered him to be muslim (and, because of taqiyya, it would not surprise me in the least); that would not be good for our country.

    If Obama indeed was a Christian, as he claimed, then the muslim world would consider him an apostate, to have left islam, an act punishable by death; and, Obama would essentially be walking around with a target on his back.

    I was ridiculed for that, but never – not once – were the facts challenged.

    Because they were/are facts.

    I’m not sure why they think it is “Unclear”, to me and many others it is crystal clear. Gaddafi knows he has nothing to fear from Obama. If this happened when Regan or either Bush were in office, I think we would see a very different responce from Lybia.

    As an Expat, this really scares me. I am very glad I am not in one of the countries where this is happening. There was a time when the US actually made sure their citizens were taken care of in this situation. And they would never allow any Citizens to be used as bargining chips as it appears these are.

    Whatever his reasons are, he is doing nothing but huting our image and making it a more dangerous world for expats and US Citizens traveling everywhere. This is not good at all.

    We are in Italy, fortunately the worst we are looking at right now is the Student protests over the government wanting to add fees for attending a university, and demanding guarenteed jobs for life upon graduation.

    I think the worst may be if they actually prosecute Burlisconi. That could get really ugly, depending on how much the criminals want to keep him in office. He has done a lot to keep some of them (and himself) out of jail.

    Most Annoyed,

    Thanks, in truth, my wife and I always agreed that if for whatever reason we were unable to retire in the Philippines that Italy would easily be our second choice!

    I grew up in Cicero, IL ( and my Italian isn’t half bad? ) In many ways, Filipinos and Italians share so much culturally it’s not funny. Love to eat, love to laugh ( argue! ) and are passionate about everything they do! I know we’d fit right it.

    Do… keep us posted?

    Just in case of a shortage of rope ;)

    Instinctively, I knew there was something wrong. No history. No experience, no great speeches except to say “Present” at roll call as senator.

    I don’t know if I agree with that! Accident and death rates are 40% higher than the US, and that is after they started very strict seatbelt enforcement.

    If you were driving near an Italian highschool when they let out, there is no way you would believe the accident and death rates are as low as they are. Kids on scooters have a very serious death wish.
