Barbara Boxer: Republicans Have a Vendetta Against Elmo
**Written by Doug Powers
At least “she who shall remain ma’am-less” hasn’t accused Republicans of “Muppet genocide,” but maybe Barbara’s saving that one for tomorrow’s speech:
Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) said Tuesday that House Republicans want to strip government funding of PBS because they have a “vendetta against Elmo.”
[...]
Boxer said that the cost of four hours of the Iraq war would be enough to keep PBS funded — and the popular fire-red children’s character on the air.
Forget four hours of the the Iraq war — the cost of four of Barbara Boxer’s earmarks would be enough to keep PBS funded.
How many puppets, muppets, guys in big yellow bird suits, cartoon aardvarks and other non-human shields can assorted congressional Democrats barricade themselves behind to save PBS funding? I guess we’ll find out soon enough, but it sure isn’t easy telling them apart anymore.

I keep blaming it on jealousy, but it could just be that he hates conservatives so much and Texas is one of the most, and certainly the largest, conservative state. He and his fellow libs have managed to destroy NY, Illinois and California, and they hate that they can’t get a toehold here.
May not be that way long…

Phil, if you couldn’t think of a lie, you wouldn’t have anything to post at all. You’d do a lot better expending some of that energy in doing something about that basket case of a state you live in. All you can do is whine about Texas.
So what? When Texas goes, don’t expect that Virginia is going to survive. I’ve already apologized to my kids and grandkids for the mess that our generation is leaving them. But at least down here we’re trying to do something about the problem except whine and blame it on somebody else.
Not anybody, Phil, just you.
Gentlemen! Surely we can communicate on a higher plateau than this.
Texas does have its problems, I must admit. In fact, many of them moved there from California.
I was just taking the opportunity to take a whack at the Usurper in Chief.
I did learn something new tonight. I wasn’t aware of the Diaz scenerio. I can see why you’re miffed. I’m that way about the °O° Administration ignoring the Federal Judge in FLA order to cease and desist the implementation of °O°Care.
I knew that was coming.
———————————
Next topic:
And now on the my state is more conservative than your state p!ssing contest.
This is getting old quick. We got better stuff to be putting our energies towards, right?
And I’d also like to point out that OK was the only state in the whole union to vote Red in every county in the 2008 election.
I hate to stop this hate for other states thing going on here, I am from Texas.Save your hate for a good purpose the Communist/ street rats.
Wasn’t Barbara “Babs”"Don’t call me ma’am”Boxer one of the Muppets? Her name sounds like a Muppet.
Paratus,
Were you ever at the Yorktown USCG base?
Well, that leaves me out. Aloha Oe!
Northern Virginia has the rest of Virginia in such a strangle hold we’re turning purple.
Elmo has made enough money off of Toy royalities to fund PBS for a hundred years, so why should we pay for it ?.
We all remember the Tickle Me Elmo phase when people were beating each other up just to buy one, what happened to all that money ?.
I’d agree with you, but there’s a long history behind this and the thread itself, unfortunately, lends itself to it.
Virgina Patriot:No I was never stationed there.I’ve never been there.I have a close friend and partner in business that was stationed there.
We used to camp there with the Scouts. Don’t know if they allow Scouts on Federal property anymore….
I’ll bet that if I drove by the PBS headquarters parking lot and looked at their cars, I would be able to tell you.
This is just a wild guess, but I’ll bet there isn’t a Dodge Caravan in the whole lot.
Beamers, Jags, Mercedes, Lexuses (Lexi?), Escalades, Hummers, etc.
Not yet, but they will.
There’s a DADT provision being drafted for the Scouts.
You’re right, I was fortunate that my kid was too old by the time that happened, but I remember it. People were fighting over them and they sold them as fast as they could make them.
Where did all that money go?
But you don’t go around blaming South Carolina for it, do you? The sorry fact is, that the people in charge are deliberately following policies intended to create more leftist voters, from their open borders policies to the educational system. We’ve been fighting a losing rear guard action for a century, and the last few years are the first signs that we might actually be able to turn them back. But it’s going to take a coordinated effort by everybody on the right to stop the left, and this constant carping and complaining about “RINOs” and “Assistant Democrats” needs to cease. That doesn’t mean to stop criticizing “moderate” Republicans (or so-called RINOs) when they stray from the fold, or working to find more conservative candidates to run in the primaries. It does mean that some people need to stop throwing out the baby with the bathwater by actively seeking to elect Democrats when a Republican just isn’t conservative enough to suit them.
When I had the misfortune of living in California, I voted against this blithering idiot as often as possible. Unbelievable! Cut her funding as well.
Probably no Volts or other hybrids, either.
We must be talking about hundreds of millions, maybe billions of dollars because Elmo is just one character of the franchise. There’s been marketing of products for Big Bird, Bert and Ernie, and assorted other Muppets. They have generated a huge stream of money for years. Where did it all go? Who is behind this Big Muppet Syndicate? Somebody needs to investigate Big Muppets.
I realize there are some relatively conservative enclaves in California, but unfortunately, as the most recent election shows, nowhere near enough to make a difference (except for adding a few votes in the House, for which we are duly thankful). I’ve been a Duncan Hunter fan for many years and would have been proud as a puppy to have had the opportunity to vote for him. Unfortunately that isn’t going to happen.
Now that is something I can get in 100% agreement with you on !
#121 that is
The $64 question. Nobody seems to pay much attention to how CPB spends its money. With all of the revenue from its enterprises and the incessant funding drives, you’d think they’d have plenty to run a few TV stations.
Yet it’s something that will get me called a RINO, and much worse, by some members of the board.
Refusing to hold my nose and vote for amnesty is a line I will not cross. If the GOP insists on an amnesty candidate, I will not support, again.
Way I see it, the push back needed may take a few election cycles and candidates less than ideal to get in what is needed.
And hopefully the Republican Party won’t be stupid enough to nominate another McCain. But you also have to realize that much of the blame goes to the national Republican Party for allowing open primaries and in allowing Iowa and NH to control who gets the GOP nomination. That is the first, and at the moment, most important problem to be dealt with, and to do that conservatives have to take control of the RNC. Good luck with that.
Seeing how I’m from the dilapidated State of Barney Frank and John Fn Kerry, I keep getting disqualified from this contest for peeing on my own leg!
As an old RPI alum, I’m conditioned to think of everything Mass. as the enemy – but I had some very good friends in Boston. At least you managed a Scott Brown. That’s at least better than Boxer and a huge improvement over any Kennedy.
If you’ve noticed, most of my fire is directed at the RNC. In their orbit are the majority of elected Republicans. These people will sell us out on amnesty. The last primary season was a stage managed farce. This one is shaping up to be a repeat. The balloons floated so far are all made of lead, Jeb, Newt, Pawlenty, Daniels, Romney, etc. The RNC wants another NotTheDemocrat candidate and America wants something different. If John McCain had a heart attack on 10/30/08, Sarah Palin might have won on her own.
I’m still skeptical of Palin’s views on illegal aliens if she runs. Right now I’m thinking Herman Cain.
Like your Annie Oakley the other day? LOL
Do you ever listen to Dennis Miller radio ? You seem like the type that fits in with him.
Or Col. West, we know how they both feel about America.
I could probably support Kain, but I’m not familiar with his positions on a lot of issues, so I have to reserve judgement. None of the rest of the people you name hold any interest for me, nor does Palin. I could cheerfully support someone like West, but there isn’t a chance in hell he or any other unknown will get the nomination. The root problem remains: We have to take over the RNC. I don’t see any mechanism to do that other than the tea parties, and to be effective they’re going to have to (in the very near future) create some more formal type of structure. As they currently exist, their power is too diffuse to be effective. It needs to be concentrated in such a way that it can be directed at specific national targets like the RNC, for instance.
We’ve built up a pretty solid conservative grass-roots movement here, including not just a few Hispanics, and our legislature is dominated by solid conservatives. We aren’t waiting for the national party to do anything. As I mentioned in another thread, our lege is at the moment trying to pass legislation banning illegals from any state provided services. If they’re successful, it’ll go a long way towards reducing the illegal population here. We can’t do anything about amnesty or border control, any more than we can about workplace enforcement, anchor babies and chain migration. To fix that, we need the Senate and Presidency. And to that purpose, I dedicate all of my attention and efforts. Almost everything else (except repealing Obamacare and much of the rest of the damage of the past four years) is secondary to stopping illegal immigration and curtailing indiscriminate legal immigration.
Babs is an embarrassment to the state of California.
Nicky Diaz was an issue with Meg Whitman. Get the facts straight!!
Thanks for the clarification C-Dog
Barbara, Barbara, Barbara,
How many time do I have to tell you? Don’t eat the mushrooms before you watch the muppets!
And definitely put down the peyote petals before giving a public speech. It’s okay Barbara,
I mean maam….ummm, senator maam, we understand your concern for Elmo, really we do.
Now run along and get back to your meeting with Diane, Nancy, and Harry. They’re waiting for you in LaLa land
and get really mad when you hold them up.
Having a President willing to enforce the law is the critical thing. The executive branch has that responsibility. They have failed for successive administrations of both parties. I believe they are preventing us from even being able to vote for someone who would enforce the laws.
Well, I guess Ms. Boxer has a vendetta against SpongeBob and Disney because none of them get taxpayer money and they stand and fall with the free market.
It’s hard to beleive such a progressive woman would be against these kinds of children’s programming.
I guess progressives don’t really have the best interest of kids at heart after all.
I am disappointed.
Here you go:
http://hermancain.com/
Kain is how the former VA Gov., TIMMY! spells his name. Herman spells his Cain.
There’s talk that TIMMY! may run for Webb’s seat. I hope he doesn’t, the Dems don’t have anybody else and I really dislike TIMMY! He’s heading up the DNC for The Usurper at the moment.
Yeah, I always misspell his name. No offense meant.
I think this next election is very critical for the GOP. If they nominate another McCain or close to one, the party is finished. I can see the Tea Party forming a third party. No more RINO/establishment/beltway/insiders. I agree with most here that they better not support amnesty for illegals. Eisenhower was the last president to really tackle this issue. Enforce the immigration laws and deport all illegals. I don’t care who they are. They’re criminals and have no business trespassing here. This is common sense.
Damn straight.
Which came first? The illegal aliens or the healthcare crisis ?
The illegal aliens have been a problem a lot longer. Both issues, though, need to be addressed. Repeal and replace Obamacare, enforce the immigration laws and deport all illegals.
Thanks, but that was Calamity Jane from the Deadwood series, she had some of the best lines.
I’m not familiar with Dennis Miller radio but I do catch him when I can when he visits Bill O’Reilly. I’ve always liked Dennis Miller, he likes to stretch for the metaphors that you sometimes don’t quite catch until later.
While we beat the daylights out of each other over our respective heresies. The heathens are running the show.
I understand no one wants to support pro-amnesty candidates, but refusing to support candidates of this type without addressing the other side of the problem, namely campaign finance regulation, is national suicide as sure as actively voting for amnesty.
Without massive changes to the law, we’ll never have another non-independently wealthy grass-roots candidate again, period. that seriously limits our options, and likely dooms us to whomever the party picks, since being wealthy (and conservative) is an unpardonable sin.
I reject the premise.
Maybe I misunderstood your post.
I hope so.
There are a lot of people who really love the country who post here and make a lot of sense. They have some different ideas on things, but I see them all as patriots.
We have to see when there are additional factors that divide us (like the 1st Amendment shredding campaign finance laws) that we may not even realize are the real cause of our problems and division.
I did initially misunderstand your post. Yes Mc’Cain-Feingold is an abridgement of the 1st Ammendment. I blame Bush! What kind of bs is that, “I’ll sign it in hopes it gets struck down.”
Here is a few sites that stream Miller 10am-1pm EST

On good days, he even has our gracious host Michelle Malkin as a guest.
Maybe what he really meant was: “I’ll sign it, and maybe it will help me get pro amnesty candidates as the only choice for much of the country”.
Bush was a selective law enforcer, just like Obama.
The only reason he wasn’t vilified by the Press for it like he was for so much else, was that they agreed that immigration laws for invading Mexicans shouldn’t be enforced.
Good one! We have the exact same problem here in the once great state of Oregon…
I’m sure our troops would welcome a 4 hour break now if she will talk with the Taliban…………
I know, I know, I’m too stupid to get the facts straight.
Or maybe, just maybe, I was making the point that the Nicki Diaz issue in the governors race ended up affecting all of the election contests in the state.
Republicans need to make inroads in the Hispanic vote to win elections. I believe that both Meg Whitman and Carli Fiorina were doing that.
A lot of Hispanics are conservative. Remember, California has defeated both marajuana legalization and gay marriage.
Then, along comes Gloria Allred and her illegal immigrant lacky to imflame people with lies and deception.
Again, the polls:
I keep seeing people from other states repeating this over and over.
Remember, a lot of people moved from other states to California in the 60s, 70s, & 80s to enjoy the California lifestyle.
How do you know we aren’t just returning your rejects?
Well lucky for me I live in Illinois and get to listen to and be reminded that the prez came from here. A fact I am not proud of, but a fact nonetheless. As usual, if some do not know, our wonderful gov also decided to raise income and corporate taxes this year, so I have to have a shot at living in the most nonconservative state.
Mark Levin promised to put together an investment group to purchase Sesame Street and move it to another network should PBS decide to kill Elmo as a result of the loss of federal funding.
Phil,
I do like California. I spend a great deal of time there. I try to avoid such perjoratives as “Commiefornia” in this forum, but your constant texaphobia is making me consider revising that policy. Phil, being rude is not the way to win friends and influence people.
I know there are a lot of conservatives in CA. What I don’t know is why you persist with this fantasy that TX doesn’t have any. The best I can figure is that you have Texas envy.
I can’t help it that Texas is the best.
Just a guess, some Texans still refer to Perry, Hutchinson and Cornyn as conservatives. In ’06 amnesty fight, Cornyn had McCain yelling F— you! at him, after reelection, he’s back the next year working with the amnesty caucus. Cornyn has to go. Perry isn’t for enforcement, either.
Personally, I can’t wait to primary Hutchinson and Cornyn.
Perry is useful. He’s not perfect by any stretch. However, he gets his jollies by fighting Washington. This makes him useful to Texans as well as conservatives in general.
Hasn’t Hutch already said she’s retiring?
I hope so. She said she would quit when she ran for TXGOV.
Its true. I hate Elmo. I have always hated Elmo. I wish nothing but ill will for Elmo and all his puppet friends.
