Barbara Boxer: Republicans Have a Vendetta Against Elmo

By Doug Powers  •  March 1, 2011 03:05 PM

**Written by Doug Powers

At least “she who shall remain ma’am-less” hasn’t accused Republicans of “Muppet genocide,” but maybe Barbara’s saving that one for tomorrow’s speech:

Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) said Tuesday that House Republicans want to strip government funding of PBS because they have a “vendetta against Elmo.”
[...]
Boxer said that the cost of four hours of the Iraq war would be enough to keep PBS funded — and the popular fire-red children’s character on the air.

Forget four hours of the the Iraq war — the cost of four of Barbara Boxer’s earmarks would be enough to keep PBS funded.

How many puppets, muppets, guys in big yellow bird suits, cartoon aardvarks and other non-human shields can assorted congressional Democrats barricade themselves behind to save PBS funding? I guess we’ll find out soon enough, but it sure isn’t easy telling them apart anymore.

As far as I know, Niki Diaz is living comfortably in Socal, an admitted illegal immigrant, liar and criminal. Doesn’t seem to bother anyone but me.

I was just taking the opportunity to take a whack at the Usurper in Chief.

I did learn something new tonight. I wasn’t aware of the Diaz scenerio. I can see why you’re miffed. I’m that way about the °O° Administration ignoring the Federal Judge in FLA order to cease and desist the implementation of °O°Care.

But you don’t go around blaming South Carolina for it, do you? The sorry fact is, that the people in charge are deliberately following policies intended to create more leftist voters, from their open borders policies to the educational system. We’ve been fighting a losing rear guard action for a century, and the last few years are the first signs that we might actually be able to turn them back. But it’s going to take a coordinated effort by everybody on the right to stop the left, and this constant carping and complaining about “RINOs” and “Assistant Democrats” needs to cease. That doesn’t mean to stop criticizing “moderate” Republicans (or so-called RINOs) when they stray from the fold, or working to find more conservative candidates to run in the primaries. It does mean that some people need to stop throwing out the baby with the bathwater by actively seeking to elect Democrats when a Republican just isn’t conservative enough to suit them.

The $64 question. Nobody seems to pay much attention to how CPB spends its money. With all of the revenue from its enterprises and the incessant funding drives, you’d think they’d have plenty to run a few TV stations.

And hopefully the Republican Party won’t be stupid enough to nominate another McCain. But you also have to realize that much of the blame goes to the national Republican Party for allowing open primaries and in allowing Iowa and NH to control who gets the GOP nomination. That is the first, and at the moment, most important problem to be dealt with, and to do that conservatives have to take control of the RNC. Good luck with that.

If John McCain had a heart attack on 10/30/08, Sarah Palin might have won on her own.

I could probably support Kain, but I’m not familiar with his positions on a lot of issues, so I have to reserve judgement. None of the rest of the people you name hold any interest for me, nor does Palin. I could cheerfully support someone like West, but there isn’t a chance in hell he or any other unknown will get the nomination. The root problem remains: We have to take over the RNC. I don’t see any mechanism to do that other than the tea parties, and to be effective they’re going to have to (in the very near future) create some more formal type of structure. As they currently exist, their power is too diffuse to be effective. It needs to be concentrated in such a way that it can be directed at specific national targets like the RNC, for instance.

We’ve built up a pretty solid conservative grass-roots movement here, including not just a few Hispanics, and our legislature is dominated by solid conservatives. We aren’t waiting for the national party to do anything. As I mentioned in another thread, our lege is at the moment trying to pass legislation banning illegals from any state provided services. If they’re successful, it’ll go a long way towards reducing the illegal population here. We can’t do anything about amnesty or border control, any more than we can about workplace enforcement, anchor babies and chain migration. To fix that, we need the Senate and Presidency. And to that purpose, I dedicate all of my attention and efforts. Almost everything else (except repealing Obamacare and much of the rest of the damage of the past four years) is secondary to stopping illegal immigration and curtailing indiscriminate legal immigration.

Thanks, but that was Calamity Jane from the Deadwood series, she had some of the best lines.

I’m not familiar with Dennis Miller radio but I do catch him when I can when he visits Bill O’Reilly. I’ve always liked Dennis Miller, he likes to stretch for the metaphors that you sometimes don’t quite catch until later.

Here is a few sites that stream Miller 10am-1pm EST

On good days, he even has our gracious host Michelle Malkin as a guest.

Maybe what he really meant was: “I’ll sign it, and maybe it will help me get pro amnesty candidates as the only choice for much of the country”.

Bush was a selective law enforcer, just like Obama.

The only reason he wasn’t vilified by the Press for it like he was for so much else, was that they agreed that immigration laws for invading Mexicans shouldn’t be enforced.

Good one! We have the exact same problem here in the once great state of Oregon…

Nicky Diaz was an issue with Meg Whitman. Get the facts straight!!

I know, I know, I’m too stupid to get the facts straight.
Or maybe, just maybe, I was making the point that the Nicki Diaz issue in the governors race ended up affecting all of the election contests in the state.

Republicans need to make inroads in the Hispanic vote to win elections. I believe that both Meg Whitman and Carli Fiorina were doing that.
A lot of Hispanics are conservative. Remember, California has defeated both marajuana legalization and gay marriage.
Then, along comes Gloria Allred and her illegal immigrant lacky to imflame people with lies and deception.

    Again, the polls:

    Before Niki Diaz:
Fiorina trailed Boxer 49% to 46%, with 3% undecided in the polls.

    After Niki Diaz:
Boxer won the general election, defeating Carly Fiorina 52.2% to 42.2%

I keep seeing people from other states repeating this over and over.

Remember, a lot of people moved from other states to California in the 60s, 70s, & 80s to enjoy the California lifestyle.

How do you know we aren’t just returning your rejects?

Well lucky for me I live in Illinois and get to listen to and be reminded that the prez came from here. A fact I am not proud of, but a fact nonetheless. As usual, if some do not know, our wonderful gov also decided to raise income and corporate taxes this year, so I have to have a shot at living in the most nonconservative state.

    Phil,
I do like California. I spend a great deal of time there. I try to avoid such perjoratives as “Commiefornia” in this forum, but your constant texaphobia is making me consider revising that policy. Phil, being rude is not the way to win friends and influence people.

I know there are a lot of conservatives in CA. What I don’t know is why you persist with this fantasy that TX doesn’t have any. The best I can figure is that you have Texas envy.

I can’t help it that Texas is the best.

Just a guess, some Texans still refer to Perry, Hutchinson and Cornyn as conservatives. In ’06 amnesty fight, Cornyn had McCain yelling F— you! at him, after reelection, he’s back the next year working with the amnesty caucus. Cornyn has to go. Perry isn’t for enforcement, either.

Personally, I can’t wait to primary Hutchinson and Cornyn.

Perry is useful. He’s not perfect by any stretch. However, he gets his jollies by fighting Washington. This makes him useful to Texans as well as conservatives in general.
