Brothels, Communists, and Other Things That Will Go Unmentioned at the Ted Kennedy Institute

The Edward M. Kennedy Institute will make no mention of these things, but if you ask me they’re worthy of an entire wing:
The late Sen. Ted Kennedy arranged to “rent” a brothel for a night while on a visit to Chile and other Latin American countries decades ago, according to a 1961 State Department memo obtained and published by the watchdog group Judicial Watch.
Judicial Watch released several documents said to be from Kennedy’s FBI file. The group said it obtained a cleaner copy of the State Department memo after a mostly redacted version was made public earlier.
The Dec. 28, 1961, memo described a tour of several Latin American countries Kennedy made while he was an assistant prosecutor with Suffolk County, Mass.
Traveling with a professor, Kennedy “insisted on interviewing ‘the angry young men’ of the country,” according to the memo. This included “communists and others who had left-wing views.”
Meanwhile, your tax dollars continue to be poured into a shrine to the man who spent his political life handing out somebody else’s money and taking personal credit for the philanthropy. Ted’s still managing to spend taxpayer money from the great beyond, so you might want to keep a tight grip on your wallet for the foreseeable future:
In the 2009 federal budget, $5,813,000 was appropriated to the project through the Labor Department and Department of Health & Human Services spending bill. In the 2010 budget, $13,600,000 was funneled through the from the Department of Labor and the Department of Health and Human Services and another $18,900,000 through the Defense Department spending bill.
In April of last year, Massachusetts Democratic Sen. John Kerry and Massachusetts Democratic Rep. Edward Markey attempted to insert another $8 million more in the now defunct Omnibus bill.
With $38.3 million already in the Institutes’s coffers and Kennedy’s wife Vicki pushing hard for more, Andre Lafferty and the Traditional Values Coalition are keeping a sharp eye, hoping to prevent any more federal funds from going to Kennedy’s center.
The family would use their own money for this project but they don’t want to dishonor the legacy.
Wouldn’t Ted want these tens of millions of dollars to go towards health care for the poor instead of a monument to himself? Don’t answer that.
Last year John Kerry defended the spending, saying the EMK Institute would draw tourists to Boston. That should come as great news for taxpayers in Provo, Tampa, Paducah and St. Louis who are also paying for it.

If they’d actually build a brothel wing, then Kerry might be on to something. Now that I think about it, a KGB wing could lure in tourists from Russia.

His family evidently ridiculed him for being fatter and slower than his legendary brothers, so he must have concluded he might as well live up to the Kennedy private reputation. Also, JFK probably never let him anywhere near certain, ahem, functions that took place in Camelot, er, the White House.
And let us not forget his leading the charge to defund the South Vietnamese forces just to look good for his lefty buddies when he tried to run for President.

It’s amazing that Kennedy visited prostitutes, conspired with communists and left an innocent woman to die at the bottom of a lake, yet he is remembered with such respect. Last year out of curiosity to learn what all the fuss was about Chappaquidick, I bought 3 books written on the subject back in the day. I was floored by the extent of the cover-up. It was massive and involved people at every level from the lowly ambulance driver to the halls of the US Senate. It was sickening to me that poor Mary Jo could’ve been saved if Teddy hadn’t been more worried about his reputation than he was about a human life. The diver who recovered her body said she probably lived for an hour or more under water by breathing from an air pocket. Her body was recovered with her hands still curled onto the seat and her head back as if gasping for her last breath of air.
The man is dead and no longer a threat to my way of life. I could care what Kennedy did.

Actually, as long as his legacy lives through projects such as this institute, the left still has the capacity to rewrite history, indoctrinate and remain a threat to your way of life. I care that Kennedy’s glossed over repugnant life, both private and political, will continue to be held as a shining example for generations to come.
The problem with making prostitution illegal is the difficulty one has in separating the act of paying directly for sex from buying a woman ‘gifts’ in exchange for sex.
For instance, if I visit a prostitute and pay $120 for 30 minutes of sex, it is not much different than taking another woman out on a date – dinner and a movie – and then having sex with her as a nightcap.
In both cases, I would be spending about the same amount of money in order to ‘buy’ sex.

I would say marriage is equivalent to buying and owning a car. First, you go out and shop for the best car you can afford, one with the most features that meets your needs. Through the first few years of ownership, the car is well enjoyed with little maintenance required.
In years 7 – 10, repair requirments are encountered. Those that take care of their cars properly, and more importantly, those that purchased mechanically sound vehicles in the first place, get good value in the later years of ownership. Those that chose poor quality vehicles or drove them too hard without doing the proper maintenance, often find themselves either trading it in for a newer one or junking it altogether in favour of taking the bus.

Reading through these comments makes us all reaffirm our contempt for this reviled, infamous and sadly misguided American political figure. Hard to believe he was called the Lion of the Senate in his eulogy when it should have been something more along the lines of what you scrape off of your shoe when walking your dog through the park! Teddy was the typical spoiled rebellious little brat that never grew up and always had his way at other’s expense, leaving a legacy of damage and destruction to our country that will reverberate for decades to come. Term limits are never going to happen because politicians will not pass them. Term limits must be done by the voters at the ballot box, something we already have the ability, if not the wisdom, to do.

At the federal level, it will take a Constitutional amendment to make it law.
But most people vote party, not person. Most parties run the incumbent out there election after election. In the case of senators, after a couple of terms they become masters of bringing home the bacon. They become enshrined and nearly impossible to remove.
Enacted term limits would prevent serving in one role as a lifetime endeavor. Political service should be temporary or varied, not lifespanning and entrenched.
No more Ted Kennedys. No more Robert Byrds, John McCains, Patty Murrays and Orrin Hatches. Two terms in the Senate and then you gotta find new work.
Well, you’d still get politicians like them, but we’d only have to suffer them for no more than two terms, not a 30+ year career. Political office should never be considered a lifetime career opportunity.

contrary to the intentions of the designers of our government long ago. George Washington knew this and could have remained in office until his death, setting a horrible precedent for his succesors. Like Cincinnatus, he chose to serve his country rather than hold on to power knowing that to do so would lead to the corruption of our Republic.
One of the fundamental problems with the current political system, which has led to disasters like the Teddy saga, is that our elected representatives are not here to serve the country but to serve themselves, their families, friends, and political supporters. You can see where it all leads, to the corruption of the legislative process and a government out of control. This is clearly illustrated by the lives of Ted Kennedy, Harry Reid, John Kerry and their like.
They will not abandon power voluntarily, so we must make them leave. A constitutional ammendment limiting representatives to two terms is needed now more than ever and should be one of the top agendas of the Tea Party and our representatives currently in Congress. It’s time for the newly elected Tea Party members to set a precedent that representatives are in office to serve the country and not to enrich themselves, their cronies, and their political supporters. Lead by example, call the exterminator, and enact a Term Limit
