Mmm, mmm, mmm: NJ shuts down Barack Obama Elementary School
How fitting that a school named after our profligate, post-achievement president is shutting down thanks to fiscal mismanagement and non-achievement.
R.I.P., Barack Obama Elementary School (hat tip: reader Peter):
The state fiscal monitor who oversees financial operations in the school district Thursday morning ordered the closing of the Barack H. Obama Elementary School as of July 1.
Students next year will go to the district’s two other more modern elementary schools — Thurgood Marshall on the east side and Bradley on the west side.
Bruce Rodman, the monitor, made the decision after the school board in recent weeks failed to support a plan by Schools Superintendent Denise Lowe to reconfigure elementary grades to create early childhood learning centers in the district, a plan which would have kept the Obama school open.
Officially renamed early in 2010 after the president, the building was known as the Bangs Avenue School since it was built a century ago. The state School Development Authority had planned to build a new school to replace the historic building, but has pulled back and Lowe said recently the state would not build a new school.
Reader Peter adds: “Asbury Park’s school system was taken over by the state of New Jersey a few years back (along with those of other underachieving municipalities) for gross managerial incompetence. The state has, in the meantime, poured beaucoups bucks into the district. According to Education.com, the district spends nearly $36,000 per student but pulls in the lowest test rating the site offers.”

I went to a Catholic school for 1st and 2nd grades. My parents couldn’t afford it after that. Some of my friends in High School couldn’t read as well as I. Personally, I believe just those two years of phonics helped me be a better reader than my friends who only had public school.
Agreed, loved teaching there. Loved the kids and I could challenge them. I now have a nephew teaching at Damien.

The big (and expensive) joke in Hawaii is that many public school teachers send their kids to private schools.

Apparently the missus should have been spending time volunteering there. But then that wouldn’t have been as showy would it.
Isn’t $36,000 enough to pay for a year of Ivy League education? How much does it cost nowadays to teach reading, writing and arithmatic? Isn’t there an app that can do that for much less?
Yup, because public schools in leftist held districts exist for indoctination of impressionable minds and sucking up and squandering taxpayer funding for the layers of bureaucracies. Actual, and useful, education in many public schools in blue states really isn’t a priority.

12 miles due east of me! Asbury Park has been a hotbed of corruption for nearly 40 years. Was fun back in the 60′s before it went down the crapper. The Bangs Avenue (BHO) School was built before WW1. It probably should be condemned.
My kids don’t know James Madison from James Cameron, but they can tell you all about the illegal overthrow of Queen Liliuokalani, all about Princess Kaiulani, how the Haole’s stole the land from the peaceful Hawaiians, how Hawaii was a paradise until the White Man came, yada yada yada…
Hmmmm, teachers refuse to change, tons of money poured into school and no improvement, hmmmmm sounds familiar. Geese, even named the friggin school after Barry and still squat to show. Yessirreee folks, awards for everyone, no accountability, just one big party. . . . until the money runs out.

There is no correlation between spending per student and achievement. Unions WANT us to believe that but it isn’t true and never has been.

We spend less than $4,000 total out of pocket to home school several kids.
Of course, the leftists would impute an income of $150,000 a year to my wife and claim we are really spending $50,000 per student per year to achieve these results and demand more taxes from us to get to that level!

Blaming the administrators is just being politically correct.
My friend’s mother volunteered to teach inner city children.
She had a mental breakdown and now has to take meds for anxiety as a result.
These inner city kids are often just impossible to work with.
We shouldn’t always blame the teachers or the schools just because students underperform.

bho and mo are the kiss of death. mo wears a designer something and the designer goes out of business. bho has eliminated all sorts of jobs with the stroke of a pen. High schools don’t want to apply to win the POTUS as a graduation speaker and now a a school named after him is closing. No surprises here. If it were not for the unions, bho wouldn’t care about schools at all. To him an education is something one gets because of affirmative action or lowering the standards so minorities can feel like they have accomplished something. Maybe bho should save taxpayer money used to fund schools and just give all the students a passing report card and put them to work on his campaign. He’s going to need all the help he can get.

The guy is great, and she is loving what he is saying, except, at one point he says, “he isn’t even sure Obama is an American”. Ms. Ingraham kind of jumps and seems like she wants to cut him off, but he quickly goes on to something else and they continue their conversation. At the end of the conversation she tells the caller how she agrees with him, (except, she says,” the part about Obama not being an America”).
I think she was afraid she had inadvertently broke the code of silence imposed on her to prevent any discussion of Obama’s eligibility, and was making sure she cleared herself before the end of the conversation.

There is one in Plainfield NJ. Anyone who is familiar with that city knows that it has a huge African-American population and an above-average crime rate.
The place stands out like a sore thumb,the teachers are outside having “smoke breaks” or talking on their phones many times per day.
And, if by chance you drive behind the “complex”, there are a deluge of SUV’s,Mercedes and way too many luxury cars.
BTW, on the sign, next to the BHO Propaganda, it has the symbol for the “Boys and Girls Clubs Of America”.That charitable organization must pay pretty well these days.
It is given funds by the United Way, who is cutting back on heating funds for seniors and low-income families.
