Gaddafi Sends Letter to ‘Our Son’ Obama

By Doug Powers  •  March 19, 2011 01:51 PM

The Times of India reports that Muammar Gaddafi has dispatched a letter to President Obama.

In the letter, the Colonel stopped just short of inviting Obama to partner up with him for the potato sack race at the Tripoli father/son picnic:

Trying to strike a personal note, Gaddafi prefaced his letter saying, “To our son, his excellency, Mr Barack Hussein Obama. I have said to you before, that even if Libya and the United States of America enter into a war, god forbid, you will always remain a son. Your picture will not be changed.”

Is it Libyan tradition that an extended handshake at the G8 constitutes a legal adoption?

By the way, there’s no truth to the rumor that Gaddafi’s letter ended with, “P.S. – tell Rev Wright ‘what’s up’ for me.”

Let’s give them credit for getting Obama to fire off millions in cruise missiles. When they break for lunch, you’ll know why I love the French. Besides, their leader is far more conservative than Obama, they know where he was born, and he has a hot super-model wife.

Sorry Aloha, I have no interest in this fight. Whoever ends up in charge in Lybia will hate us. So who cares? My choice is pick one of two tactics:

    1) Give support to both sides and let them shoot at each other for 20 years.

    2) Take all the friendly Lybians and put them on ships in the Med. Then bomb Lybia flat. Then sink the ships.

The whole country is not worth the cost of a 5.56 mm round, much less an American life. There is nothing there that is in our national interest.

Obama’s leadership style can be defined as, “There they go….. And I must hasten after them, for I am their leader.”

Defining momment? He’d better hope not.

That’s not what did it. Since the beginning, Obama has been calling for Qadaffi’s ouster. Letting the French take the first token shots was just Obama’s way of trying to pretend that the radical Muslims won’t see this as yet another war that the Americans started.

    Good luck with that.

Apparently Libya’s anti-aircraft missile systems are the antiquated Russian SA-5 systems. Big–hard to move and set up. Dangerous liquid fuel, lots of obsolete equipment needed to operate and maintain them. One very long range medium / high altitude capable missile in the air at a time. Big 500 pound warhead. And also carried a 25 kt. nuke warhead in Russia. And can be used as a ground / anti-ship missile if target coordinates are known.
    ***
It’s a good thing that Krazy Kadaffi doesn’t have the much more capable Russki Patriotski–the SA-12 type systems. This morning’s news states that the stealth B2 bombers were used last night–supposedly they are “invisible” to modern microwave radars.
    ***
During the President Clinton’s Yugoslavian fight only a few U.S. planes were lost–very good jamming against older radars. One of the planes lost was an F117 Stealth Fighter, another was Scott Grady’s ? non stealthy F16.
    ***
They apparently were hit by the mobile tracked vehicle mounted Russki SA-6 Systems–which hide, move around at night, lie “doggo” until the planes are at short range, and then radiate and fire. I hope Krazy doesn’t have these types of systems. Remember how hard it was to find and destroy Saddam Hussein’s Scud launchers during the first Gulf War?

More practical field testing on missiles vs. airplanes coming soon.

See? People label me a nasty, selfish, mean-spirited person. That’s not true at all. I just learn from history, and try not to repeat it for the sake of feeling good and noble.

The nasty, selfish, mean-spirited people are people like the Arab League, who would use us when can help them, and spit on us when it suits. Now, they will use the nasty, selfish, mean-spirited western powers in their rhetoric to unite the Arabs/Moslems against us.

One of the things that supposedly set bin Laden off was that we had our boots defiling sacred Saudi soil, while we were there to rescue Kuwait from their fellow Arab/Moslems.

Just learn from history, and stop being Charlie Brown. Lucy is a nasty, selfish, mean-spirited biatch, so when she offers to hold the football for Charlie to kick, he needs to come running up and… kick her in the head.

    Speaking metaphorically, of course.

Btw, waaay off-topic, but I gotta get it off my chest.

Last night I was playing an online game. There was an anniversary event in this one game zone (a zone commonly used by people for advancing their characters), and there were a hundred people or so taking part in the event. The game slowed to a crawl and was laggy.

Those participating in the event kept telling other people to leave the zone for the sake of their event. They really couldn’t grasp the idea that other people, who would get no reward if/when these people completed the event, had as legitimate a right to use the zone as anyone else.

They accused me, and others, of being selfish for not going away to reduce the slowing of the game. They argued that the fun of 200 was more important than the fun of 1.

What I witnessed was the philosophy of socialism being alloyed with the entitlement mentality and new breed of self-centeredness. You’ll see more of this kind of argument in the future, in the real world, as it’s applied to Japan, Libya, green energy, healthcare, unemployment and every other issue we face.

I’m not sure what the Arab League had in mind when they asked the West to establish a no-fly zone and protect civilians in Libya from Daffy Qaddafi’s air force. What, they thought we’d just buzz around and Qaddafi’s goons would quail and cower at our sheer moral authority?

I don’t buy into the ‘the rebels are Al-Qaida’ angle. All I see are a bunch of people trying to get out from under Ghaddafi. However, I think this intervention is a terrible move anyways.

    1) As already stated by others, no consultation with congress occurred. Obama himself said in 2007 that the President is not authorized to commit us to military action without the say-so of the legislative branch (which he probably WOULD have gotten, but he didn’t even try).

    2) TPM put it quite well in the following snippet:
So let’s review: No clear national or even humanitarian interest for military intervention. Intervening well past the point where our intervention can have a decisive effect. And finally, intervening under circumstances in which the reviled autocrat seems to hold the strategic initiative against us. This all strikes me as a very bad footing to go in on.”

Like TPM, I think we’re going to end up provided extended duration air-cover for a rebel sanctuary in Benghazi, because I doubt the rebels have the capability left to regain their earlier momentum. . . and of course now that we’re engaged, we’ve in essence assumed responsibility for the lives of those people.
