Let’s export Ken Salazar to Brazil
Since day one of the Obama administration, I’ve chronicled Loathsome Cowboy Ken Salazar’s War on the West, War on Jobs, and War on Science/Rule of Law. His eco-radical sidekick Carol Browner is gone, yet Salazar remains in place — and has launched a new public campaign to demonstrate his purported moderation on energy policy. Yesterday, he announced a new coal mining push in Wyoming and for the past month, he has been touting the administration’s long-delayed, stingy, and misleading drilling permit approvals.
My column today cuts through the baloney, bring you up to date on all the White House legal wrangling to delay economic recovery in the Gulf, and offers a modest proposal: Since President Obama is now so enamored of sending U.S. taxpayer dollars to Brazil in the name of creating jobs and energy innovation, why don’t we send Ken Salazar over there, too? Permanently.

After two years of practicing unrepentant contempt for science, jobs, law and truth, why should Interior Secretary Ken Salazar’s words mean anything anymore? While President Obama promotes offshore drilling overseas thousands of miles away in Brazil, Salazar now promises to revitalize America’s oil and gas industry. It’s like Jack “Dr. Death” Kevorkian promoting himself as a lifesaving CPR specialist.
This week, Salazar announced that the administration has just approved the first deepwater oil and gas exploration plan since last spring’s BP/Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Mind you: This is not a granting of permits, but a green light for Shell Offshore to seek drilling permits for three new exploratory wells off the Louisiana coast. Shell first submitted and received approval for its original exploration plan in 1985 — 26 red tape-wrapped years ago.
Salazar’s make-believe resurrection of American offshore and onshore drilling began a few weeks ago, when the Interior Department Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement issued a deepwater drilling permit to Noble Energy for a well at the Santiago project about 70 miles off the Louisiana coast. But as Louisiana political analyst and blogger Scott McKay pointed out, “This isn’t a permit for a new project. The permit issued to Noble was for a bypass of an obstruction in a well they’d already drilled before the Deepwater Horizon accident. It took 314 days to get that well back online with this administration.”
Nevertheless, Obama oil czar Michael Bromwich claimed credit for the decision and insisted the project be treated as a new well. So this is how Democrats win the future: crushing industries with one hand while patting themselves on the back for saving them.
The measly Noble Energy permit approval came months after the Obama administration purportedly “lifted” its junk science-based drilling moratorium — and only after federal courts repeatedly spanked Salazar and the White House for their “determined disregard” of judicial orders and “increasingly inexcusable” action on stalled deepwater drilling projects.
More than a month ago, U.S. District Judge Martin Feldman ordered the Obama administration to decide within a month whether to grant a set of five permits for deepwater drilling projects in the Gulf of Mexico. Feldman wrote that the foot-dragging administration’s “time delays at issue here are unreasonable” and told the feds to act in an “expeditious” manner to “restore normalcy to the Gulf region and repair the public’s faith in the administrative process.”
The Obama administration’s response? Last week, just under the wire on the judicial time limit, the White House won a stay from the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. Delay, baby, delay.
Unsurprisingly, the man who misled the public about scientists’ support for his overreaching moratorium now faces more charges of data doctoring. Louisiana GOP Sen. David Vitter called out Salazar and Bromwich for publicly low-balling drilling application figures. While the pair informed Congress that the administration has received fewer than 50 shallow water permits and that only six to seven deepwater permits are pending, the Obama Justice Department asserted in legal filings that “there are 270 shallow water permit applications pending, and 52 deepwater permit applications pending.” Which is it?
Jim Adams, president and CEO of the Offshore Marine Service Association (OMSA), further skewered Salazar’s book-cooking on the permit-orium: “There were 32 deepwater drilling operations already permitted when the president imposed his moratorium last year. Interior Secretary Salazar is merely allowing existing permit holders to resume their operations.”
OMSA reports that there are more than 100 deepwater development plans that have yet to be cleared to even become eligible for a permit. Salazar is “treating Gulf workers like peasants, tossing us work crumb by crumb and expecting us to be grateful,” Adams said. “We’re tired of fighting for scraps. We want to get back to work — all of us, not just a handful of crews.”
At least 13,000 jobs have been lost, according to Louisiana State University professor Joseph Mason’s latest estimates. Isn’t it high past time to send Salazar and his misery-inducing eco-radicals packing? How about exporting them to Brazil?

Amen Michelle! I watched Fox and friends this morning and some democrat strategist showed the fine art of lying with statistics, as well as outright disembling. He kept saying we don’t subsidize alternatives to the level needed, which is total BS. We have been subsidizing wind/solar/biofuel out the wazoo for over 30 years, since Carter. Carter lied to us saying that by the year 2000 the world would be out of oil in order to start subsidies of solar etc. Then the lying weasel told us we are pulling up more American oil now than we did 7 years ago. That time frame was when oil was cheap and american producers weren’t running the pumps. You have a story on hot air today about how Media Matters are training these weasels to go on Fox News and lie with a convincing face.

Even Barry understands that money is fungable and can go anywhere to produce a profit. Jobs however are far less transportable. So yes, investors like Soros and Barry can put their money into oil companies in Brazil, just as 3M can put it’s money into plants in Indonesia, but the workers left behind can’t relocate to Brazil or Indonesia. They are left here to go on unemployment and riot. This is whathappens when you follow the logic of environmentalists, Osha experts, liberal tax the rich beaurocrats who have never worked in the real world. The rich get taxed, right up until they take their money and go elsewhere.

As a Coloradan, I am ashamed of him and his actions (or non-actions). When he departed the US Senate for his new cushy job, I thought that we were rid of him. But, he has made his presence known in Colo. and we are all the worse for it.
His brother didn’t do so well for his re-bid for US Representative, representing Western Colo. He tried to make it sound like he was for all the “little people” in the Western Slope region, but in reality, he and his bro were cutting back on drilling and oil and gas exploration in that very region. Lots of people depended on that business for their livelihood, not just in the oil business, but also for grocery stores, motels, gas stations, etc.

It is amazing to me the gall of Obama. I can’t believe he’s sending tax dollars to BRAZIL to help their offshore drilling, but refuses to help Americans by merely allowing us to drill and pay taxes on what we drill.
It’s as though Obama doesn’t like America. It’s so sad because he would be a nobody anywhere else.
I want to like and support the president. I want the president to succeed. But he has done nothing but spend money America doesn’t have while ensuring that American competitiveness is diminished in nearly every single industry.

Reading the article at the link below reminds me of another recent article which claimed that some on-air voice talent company (can’t remember the name right now) were hiring actors to call the various talk-radio hosts – Rush, Hannity, Beck, et al – and pretend to be “conservative” or “liberal” callers to presumably spice up the conversation.

This TV attempt at the same ruse is as thinly transparent and laughable as the radio version. Most well-known and renowned actors and actresses spend decades learning and honing their craft, and Media Matters thinks they can train people in a few weeks to sound convincing enough to counter conservative policy wonks?
I hate to break it to Media Matters and their lackeys on the Left: whatever you do is going to be an epic fail for two reasons, 1.) average Americans are smarter than you think and can see through the BS and 2.) facts are stubborn things and the truth will always out.
Not only that, but I bet the whole thing will implode for an additional reason: the ratings for CNN and MSNBC are already in the basement and their believability index is in solid negative numbers as it is. If FOX tries to accommodate these people on a regular basis, their ratings will tank just as the other cable “news” outlets. Somehow, I don’t think Roger Ailes will put up with that for long.

This is the time to make an example of these people and prosecute them or ramp up pressure to fire them. Federal bureaucrats must be held personally accountable. In any event, Louisiana should tell the Feds to take a hike and grant permits of it’s own, even if only symbolically.

They believe that wealth is a naturally occurring compound like water. It needs to be conserved and shared like a lifeboat food locker.
Wealth has to be created, it does not grow or flow. This is why the Left views money and wealth as something to be regularly divvied up – a zero sum game.
It may be partly that, but I suspect that another, possibly greater motivation is ecological: why not let the Brazilians take all of the risks associated with drilling, as well as the cleanup if anything goes wrong? We get the oil, they get to clean up the mess.
After all, when your concept of “economics” is to borrow and spend trillions of dollars that you don’t have, and to print greenbacks until the presses melt down, what’s a few billion to keep from having to get your hands dirty?

We had a heated CFL Debate on our local Portland conserv. blog. All the Progs simply operate from the stance that if EPA/OSHA/Gov. Agency tell us they are good for the env., well that’s all the ‘proof’ they need!
My observations as a homeowner are that CFL’s don’t come anywhere close to the the much vaunted service ‘life’. Not even close guys. In fact I’ve had them burn out in as little as few weeks! At least initially none of us knew of the hazards and I’ve swept up broken bulbs -just- as if they were trad. bulbs. I recall telling Mrs. Will “If these damned things lasted any shorter ( we’d be better off w/ candles! )”

A caller on Rush’s show yesterday pointed out that it takes something like 18 KC-135 tanker sorties to support one flight of 4 F-15′s for one day of this “no-fly” operation.

I am a Louisiana citizen and my husband has been an employee for nearly 30 years of that company-that-shall-remain-nameless formerly headed by our former Vice-President. I am here to tell you that the jobs that are offered by the drilling industry — offshore and on — are great, great jobs providing great benefits to the employees who are willing to put up with the hardships of the industry (being gone for extended periods of time, living in bunks — fine when you’re 25, not so great when you’re in your 50s). And these jobs are being slowly but surely destroyed. While these workers can follow the jobs to Africa, Brazil, wherever, why should they have to? We need the oil, we have it here, exploration and production of it creates jobs and wealth — WHY DON’T THESE PEOPLE SEE THIS???
It makes me sick and guys, it’s really important that someone step up to the plate in the name of true conservative, stay out of my house and pocketbook government to take these nutjobs on next year. Really.
