Finding Marizela: New tip line, billboards, and missing persons resources

Our family has a new independent tip line for citizens who may have information leading to Marizela’s return.
The number is 1-855-MARIZEL. Anonymity is guaranteed. Please spread the word.
Many thanks to Ned Cullen and the generous folks at ClearChannel Outdoor for their help in posting digital billboards across the country about Marizela’s disappearance. The alert (pictured above) will be broadcast in Los Angeles, the Seattle area, Salem OR, San Francisco, Sacramento, Phoenix, and Las Vegas:
Help us bring Marizela home.

On a related policy note, the state of Delaware has taken steps to adopt a “Gold Alert” system for automatic highway bulletins on missing adults.
Similar “Silver Alerts” are issued in other states.
We spend so much time fighting the things that government should do, that we too often take for granted the things government should do. This is certainly a legitimate and basic law enforcement/community safety function that public resources should fund. There should be far more coordination — interstate, intrastate, and local-county-federal — than currently exists.
Let’s Bring Them Home is a good resource for information about missing persons campaigns/legislation.

Still praying! Still hoping!
I hope nobody considers this question inappropriate, because I don’t mean it as any form of criticism whatsoever, I’m really just ruminating here.
Is it at all possible that too much publicity will make her more nervous about coming forward? Not that I know what the answer is, because the word still has to get out. Perhaps if there were some way of assuring her (even though we all know it’s true, but we don’t know what she’s thinking at this time) that her privacy will definitely be respected when she returns.
Michelle, have you contacted AMW? They have a update daily for missing children. Million all over the world watch the show Saturday, we do, to find missing children. My heart aches so much for the family and you. Please, Michelle take care of you for your family and us.
L
Every time I check MM, I find myself hoping the banner reads “FOUND SAFE”. It’s a sad login every time I see that it’s not.
Amen. While still praying and hoping, we should now find ourselves doing so w/ renewed vigor! Blackstone, having daughters that aren’t much older, yes, I think a number of us were thinking same.
Parents of less … disciplined children almost always know ‘where’ their kids are as result of petty crimes/antics landing them in near constant contact w/ the police. As in; “known to the police”.
How do we track the good kids? Hang in there MM.
My heart is breaking for you and your family. Such a beautiful young lady…like my own girls, I’m sure she is a real blessing for her parents.
It’s unfortunate that police chiefs and law enforcement agency hierarchy egos are too consumed with local political games instead of focusing on Public Safety. It’s not that hard to come to a consensus on system wide search notifications for missing vulnerable and at-risk adults. Marizela’s personal life is one example. So are abused wives/girlfriends who end up kidnapped by their ex’s.
Too many adults run away from their problems. Example; Runaway bride Jennifer Carol Wilbanks. The entire country was on the lookout for her, but turns out she had cold feet about marriage. Those people seem to ruin America’s interest in helping locate missing endangered adults. Most law enforcement have a waiting period of 48 hours before they take reports, unless extreme circumstances and evidence warrant a report.
You cannot find any hard data on how many people or names of those who go missing every year. Why does the FBI limit who gets placed on their website for Missing or Kidnapped?
I’ve never heard of Gold / Silver Alerts. It’s useful information to remember if and when something happens in my area. When I worked in a nursing home during high school, I would occasionally see one of the residents sitting on a bus bench or walking early in the morning… several miles away from the home. These days the doors and security systems keep a better eye on them.
If you see a stranger dressed inappropriately for the weather or looking out of place, it’s a good idea to talk to them. You never know.
It would seem that the easiest way to find someone would be to track their bank account activities and online activities as well. Hopefully, Michelle’s hired investigator is tracking these two things. I know Michelle can’t divulge any of these personal details, but hopefully she and her family are aware of any findings in this regard.
Did Marizela have any internationally based friends? Did she meet anyone online? Was she doing well in school or struggling? There are many questions I wish we knew the answers to, but unfortunately we don’t.
One day, I hope chip technology allows family members to follow each others whereabouts so that each member of the family who wants to, can know as to the whereabouts of other family members. I would agree to have a chip surgically inserted in my arm or elsewhere to let my family know where I am at all times. I am sure others would be willing to do the same, as long as only family members could have access to the data. Such technology would quickly resolve these types of cases.
I feel the same way. In fact, I’ve been checking MM before I check my e-mail.
I too check several times a day, waiting for the MARIZELA HOME banner. As often voiced on this site, take care of your family affairs Michelle, Doug is doing a fine job. You can count on there being enough problems left for you to tackle once Marizela is home safe.
I echo this sentiment. But we continue to pray. And ache. And pray some more…
Still praying and knowing that the Lord has not forgotten her or her family.
Thoughts and prayers for you, Marizela and her family. I know how you feel.
Never give up hope!!
We are with you, in Faith and prayer.
Trust in God
I agree, Michelle. With all the technology this great country has at it’s disposal, we should make this a priority. There is nothing more important than our children, and keeping them safe. Or finding them when they go missing – for whatever reason. I continue to pray for you and your family through this ordeal.
By the blood of Jesus, let’s all pray that these new efforts yields the results to bring peace to you and family. Amen.
*Sure wish I could do more; If I lived in the area, I would be out and about in my spare time to help.
*The libertarian in me says “no way”, but the “logic and common sense” in me proposed many years ago to have all live born humans implanted with a gps chip autoset to a database for time/location tracking(a derivative of “Minority Report”), hence no lost or missing persons, and more importantly, minimal crimes of any type!
Let’s bring her home. We will continue to pray for her and know that God will deliver this miracle. In the meantime, I believe this should remain a headline on this website until she comes home. I know other stories will be top story much of the time but I pray Michelle will keep putting this up in between breaking news stories.
I am selfish for wanting this miracle but I am selfish because I want the world to see God’s power as He delivers Marizela safely to her family. For that reason I want this to be a top priority.
If that came out wrong in any way I apologize in advance. It is 5am in Riyadh and I am a little sleepy. Long day tomorrow but at least it is the end of the Muslim work week so I have Thursday and Friday off. I just have to get through today and I am very tired. Nevertheless, we keep praying for Marizela and believe the Lord will grant us this miracle for all to see.
Amen
Posted to Facebook.
These steps your family is taking are awesome, Michelle.
I do believe, MajorKen, that God is bringing glory to His name in this. And as He does, He has Mei and the family safely in His hands.
In Swede’s words, Lord, bring her home.
Hebrews 11
1Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Keep the faith Michelle.
I believe that should be “…fighting things that government should NOT do..”
Still praying for Marizela’s safe return.
Me too.
Damnit
I keep hoping for good news.
Marizela, you are in the thoughts and prayers of so many. May God keep you safe. I hope you have all of lifes basic needs at your disposal. Much love to you and strength to your family.
Michelle,
I know it is exhausting for you and your family but I pray you have the strength to keep writing updates. I also continue to pray for Marizela’s safe return. Whatever happens we just ask the Lord to deliver her home soon. Lord please hear our prayers.
I see so many prayers for her and we all just keep praying in agreement. The Lord is a merciful and all honor and glory to His name.
