By Chuck Schumer’s Definition, 48% of the Country is ‘Extreme’

Democrat caucus-parrot Chuck Schumer is sticking to his claim that the Tea Party is “extreme”:

Sen. Charles Schumer, D-New York, said he doesn’t regret reporters overhearing him telling Democratic colleagues that Republican budget cuts should be painted as “extreme.” Schumer and Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., sparred on just where the Tea Party political movement stood in relationship to the American people, in an exclusive political debate on “This Week.”

Schumer stood by the remarks he made when he was apparently unaware his microphone was open to reporters.

“I have no problem with reporters hearing that,” Schumer told anchor Christiane Amanpour. “I said a few hours before [the call] on the floor of the Senate. I’ve said it on this show. The Tea Party is the group standing in the way. They are extreme,” he insisted.

By “extreme” you’d expect to be able to peg this extremely extreme group of extremists as a small band of irresponsible crazies, but according to this Rasmussen poll, under Schumer’s definition, almost half the country is extreme:

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 48% of Likely U.S. Voters say when it comes to the major issues facing the country, their views are closer to the average Tea Party member as opposed to the average member of Congress.

Calling almost half the country “extreme” just because they don’t want to bankrupt the country is pretty… well, extreme (that’s what the caucus instructed me to use).

I’ve started reading more about this country’s founders…I mean more about their lives. These patriots were fearless in many ways, not sure about their country’s future, their own future, and the future of their children. They were the epitome of risk takers…many lost their homes, their land, and even their children. Politicians today are small-minded cowards, unwilling and unable to risk anything, especially their privileged life as congressional reps. They have no guts, not vision, no common sense, and thus, no ability to act as a representative of anyone. They are spineless leeches on the US body.
Do you remember how the Dems were absolutely shocked by the Tea Party rally’s. They had two responses: 1) Who do these people think they are? 2)How did this happen when we just elected the most wonderful guy ever? They were totally clueless and, worse, hated hearing from the “common man”.
It is CRITICAL that people go to Tea Party Rallys and voice their concerns. What Reid and his ilk really want is our silence. NO! We cannot remain silent. We must, if we are truly patriots, show some kind of resolve and courage as did Americans during the American Revolution – or we will surely lose the Republic.

No, it’s you who’s trying to be creative here. Those poll questions you cited were about the Tea Party movement. Rasmussen’s poll was about agreement with the Tea Party’s views, which of course is the more relevant factor here.

The deficits are at 1.3 trillion and your party just passed a healthcare bill that will allow you to control 1/6th of the U.S. economy, in addition of course to the percentage that you control now. You have made progress toward controlling the majority of the economy and despite all this, you are complaining about people standing in your way? Are you serious? Sixty-nine percent (69%) of GOP voters and 62% of unaffiliateds say their views about the major issues facing the country are closest to those of the average Tea Party member. But among voters in President Obama’s party, only 37% say their views are closest to the average member of Congress, while 47% are undecided.

Most Democrats (54%) think the average member of Congress has a better understanding of the problems America faces today. Seventy-two percent (72%) of Republicans and 51% of unaffiliated voters have more confidence in the understanding of the average Tea Party member.

If rich people are already paying more in taxes than poor people, why do you feel disgust toward letting them keep the rest of their money? What percentage of taxation against the rich would make you call off your crusade for economic justifce? More importantly, if your side is spending 1.3 trillion dollar deficits, what percentage of income taxation do you believe would bring budgets into balance. And even moreso, do you think that higher levels of taxation would be the most efficient and effective way for the average person in America to build wealth?

    Nice ‘talking points’ Chuckie.

The Ten poorest cities and percentage of population below the poverty level:
    1. Detroit , MI 32.5%
    2. Buffalo , NY 29.9%
    3. Cincinnati , OH 27.8%
    4. Cleveland , OH 27.0%
    5. Miami , FL 26.9%
    6. St. Louis , MO 26.8%
    7. Chicago, Ill. 26.4%
    8. Milwaukee , WI 26.2%
    9. Philadelphia , PA 25.1%
    10. Newark , NJ 24.2%
    U.S. Census Bureau, 2010
What do the top ten cities (over 250,000) with the highest poverty rate all have in common? THE DEMOCRAT PARTY, HEAVY UNIONISM
Detroit, MI (1st on the poverty rate list) hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1961.
Buffalo, NY (2nd) hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1954.
    Cincinnati , OH (3rd) hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1984.
    Cleveland , OH (4th) hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1989.
Miami, FL (5th) has never had a Republican mayor.
    St. Louis , MO (6th) hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1949.
Chicago, Ill (7th) has never had a Republican mayor.
    Milwaukee , WI (8th) hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1908.
    Philadelphia , PA (9th) hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1952.
    Newark , NJ (10th) hasn’t elected a Republican mayor since 1907.

Reason: The people in these cities elect Democrats and belong to unions because of their socialistic

agendas and it is clear it is not working. Their failure is a burden on us all. Barry Soetoro is no

different, he is and he backs the very things that led to the demise of these cities. WE CAN NOT

SUSTAIN WHAT WE HAVE BECOME. WE, LARGELY, ARE JUST LIKE THESE CITIES AND WE

ARE ON A PATH OF FAILURE. IT IS TIME FOR INTELLIGENCE TO PREVAIL NO MATTER WHO

PROTESTS. In the history of our federal government:

    * 5 Representatives have been expelled. All 5 were Democrats.
    * 14 Senators have been expelled. All 14 were Democrats.
    * 21 Representatives censured. 16 Democrats, 5 Republicans.
    * 7 Senators have been censured. 4 were Democrats, 3 were Republican.
    * 2 Presidents have been impeached. Both were Democrats.
A ten year old child can look at the facts above and see the common threads. Barry and the other socialists in the government have us headed toward ruin. If it continues, you have one person to blame, he/she is in your mirror.

That’s a pretty creative way for Rasmussen to paint the tea party as mainstream when it consistently (see, e.g., here and here) has Palin-like favorability ratings

    (Laughs)

You expect us to trust CNN or Gallup over Rasmussen? Rasmussen polling has a third of its sample independent, democrat and republican each and all within 2.0% points of 33%.

CNN, gallup, CBS, time, ect. are all know to tilt thier numbers (and reporting) in favor of democrats.

Also, Rasmussen releases the details of its polling to members.

I don’t see the same service offered by the pollsters you quoted, RSS.

I wonder why that could be.

The TEA PARTY made its mark on the 2010 election, where it counted the most.

Numbers don’t matter to political bigots. The only thing that is important to political bigots is spreading their bigotry.

The Democrats have taken the racial bigotry of many decades ago and replaced ‘blacks’ or N’s with ‘conservatives’, red’s and R’s. Where, in the mantra of racial bigotry blacks were too stupid to know how to take care of themselves, that’s now Conservatives are stupid, gun totting, bible thumpers who are mean and nasty to the point they can’t be trusted to take care of themselves, let alone the nation.

Political bigotry is sold to left leaning blacks, and other politically twisted left leaning bigots as a way to get back at the supposedly racial bigoted upper crust whitey’s. Very little if any of this is true, but truth doesn’t matter to the politically bigoted. The more outrageous the scam the better.

One of the silent enablers of this are the RINOs, who would just as soon see tea party conservatives go away… So they sit on their hands during politically bigoted outbursts of the left.

Expect it to continue until it’s challenged openly and continuously for the political bigotry it is. Then, even blacks are likely to sit up and take notice. But then don’t worry, this sort of stuff isn’t what the GOP LOSERSHIP is all about…

These common sense observations aren’t contagious, so don’t worry pondering about them….

Let’s ignore the fact that the Bush tax cuts reduced the lowest tax bracket from 15% to 10% and focus instead on who the “rich” really are. Since the “poor” don’t employ anyone (at least not for long), the “rich” are the nation’s employers.

So, by all means, let’s tax employers into oblivion until we are all unemployed and completely dependent on the government. Yeah, That’ll show em, and make Democrats happy at the same time. Come to think of it, it’s one of the few democratic strategies that actually works as intended — that is until there are no more “rich” left to fund big government and the Chinese refuse to continue financing our ballooning deficit. Then what?

What’s extreme, Mr. Schumer, is the selfishness of lawmakers like you who forge our children’s names to your IOU’s and thereby enslave them to a debt they can never repay. But because they don’t have a say in the matter, it’s called “taxation without representation” and goes against the values of every founder of this nation.

They seem to like “origionalist” Justices, but are opposed to “origionalist” Congressmen and Senators. Yet, the #1 job of a Congressman or Senator is to follow their Oath to defend and protect the constitution!

That is how most sane people see it. However, the #1 job of lib pols, and too many so called conservatives is to park their a**sses in the Halls of Congress for as long as they can, to enjoy the perks and power, and then one day retire to sell their influence for millions. The Tea Party is the only thing standing in the way of complete economic collapse. If the TP does not prevail, this Country will be lost, exactly what Dems want, so they can install their socialist scheme into America.

I urge everybody to write their Senators and Congressmen and tell them to shut it all down on Friday. The majority of the American people are behind them.

GEL #40, great post. Just as the John Stossell show Freeloaders showed about the indian tribes. If you rely upon the gubmint to take care of you, you are destined for a life of poverty and degradation. If you go out into America and work for your supper, you have the chance (as millions of legal and illegal aliens find each year) of becoming successful. The Democrat party of socialists and communists would rather keep you in poverty and voting for the politburo every year, than ENCOURAGE you to go out there and make something of yourself and decide that you don’t need handouts from the democrat party. Communism has always been easy to sell, because all of us are basically lazy, but the problem is that it can’t be sustained. Lazy always outnumber industrious, other people’s money always runs out, and isn’t it funny that the only people who espouse communism are people who can’t be fired for incompetence,Educators and Government workers.

After 2012 we have to look at rescinding the right to vote for anyone getting a Gov’t handout. Why should people who are getting free stuff or pay no federal income taxes be able to vote to raise my taxes?!?!?
