Jerry Brown Suggests SEIU Take Republicans to Lunch

By Doug Powers  •  April 6, 2011 10:13 PM

**Written by Doug Powers

Because the fiscal nightmare that California has become is in part due to the free lunch culture run amok, Jerry Brown unwittingly waxes somewhat metaphorical with this one.

Sacramento Bee:

Gov. Jerry Brown said in a telephone town hall with state employees last night that partisan bickering is more rampant than it once was at the Capitol, and he suggested his tax plan might fare better if Service Employee International Union members plied the other side.

“If every SEIU member would take a Republican to lunch, maybe we would be in better shape,” Brown said in a telephone town hall that the union said reached thousands of employees.

If Republicans regularly lunched with the SEIU, both sides might end up a lot of things, but “in better shape” is very unlikely to be one of them.

Another Jerry Brown secret to wooing the opposition is lots of wine (possibly a nice bottle of Moonbeam Melody).

According to the head of a local SEIU, what Brown is suggesting already happens:

Yvonne Walker, president of SEIU Local 1000, said the union’s membership is 30 percent Republican, and she told Brown, “We take a lot of Republicans to lunch.”

They must not bring them back though, because Republicans aren’t very visible at SEIU protests and picket lines on any given day.

Brown is quickly finding himself in the corner he needs to be to make the necessary changes. His plan to extend the “temporary” tax increases and add another “temporary” sales tax increase via another proposition election is headed in the toilet. Voters just don’t want any tax increases. He will soon have no choice but to start cutting union jobs and it will probably require that bargaining rights be curtailed.

Assuming that it is true that he ran because he is truly personally embarrassed at being remembered as “Governor Moonbeam” for having started this mess, this may be the only way to fix the problem. God knows Whitman was already selling out long before the election.

I am hoping that this is one kabuki that will produce the correct results for once.

I am part of that 30% here in California, since I am a teacher, but SEIU should remember that many of those 30% are not there by choice. If there was a choice I think that number would be a little less than 30%, it would probably be about 5%…maybe.

And since CA isn’t a Right to Work State, these “Republicans” have no choice but to give their money to the SEIU if they want to continue working in the public sector.

So my response is this: so what?

Your comment is much appreciated. One of the big fatal mistakes “conservatives” make is to tell people to quit. The worst is Texas, the open borders capital of the world. Here in CA, we have the most effective wall on the border and despite our several sanctuary cities, you cannot win statewide election here advocating amnesty.

What we need to do next is build a wall between CA and AZ because that is where most of illegals are entering CA from these days.

That is not an entirely ludicrous suggestion! Once proven effective, THEN who will AZ blame?

I’m working on a motto for the OR Tea Party and favoring, ” ‘Lonely’ ( but never alone! )”

What unfortunately happens to Blue State Republicans is.., we become isolated. Obviously ( and thankfully ) isolated from The Left! But also from other Conservatives. In many cases, the people we should be arm & arm with ( are also our competitors! )

You’ve got vendors trying to load you up w/ product, accounts playing shell games, employees fudging time cards and… before you KNOW IT ( it’s Me against The World! )

Doubt it? ( Go to a Conservatives FUNERAL! ) Yeah, crowd’s pretty ‘thin’. We need to get the Korean dry-cleaner owners, the Russian upholsters, and even the Cambodian NAIL SALON owners on the same freaking page! Don’t think Russians aren’t -conservative- ( try marrying one of their DAUGHTERS! ) First question.., “Are you Orthodox Jew?, No? Nice knowing you kid!”

An $18 per car tax increase whether we use the parks or not is classic blame shifting for a legislature that connat accept responsibility for their mess. Stealing money from highway travelers used to be called “highway robbery.” Now it’s called “Proposition 21.”
