Obama: Gas Prices are High Because Climate Change Deniers Refuse to Tackle Global Warming

By Doug Powers  •  April 21, 2011 12:27 PM

**Written by Doug Powers

Gas prices are around $4 a gallon — and in some areas pushing $5 a gallon — and Chicago is seeing their lowest springtime temperatures since the 1940s. This means it’s the perfect time to talk about what needs to be done to combat global warming before our brains thaw out for a season called “summer” that used to be caused by earth tilt and the sun but is now blamed on capitalism.

Obama hasn’t mentioned “climate change” a lot recently. He’s spoken of “clean energy” and whatnot, but now that the campaign is getting moving, gas prices continue to rise and it’s apparent he has no interest in domestic drilling, there’s got to be an excuse for taking no real action to bring the price down. The campaign’s angle is shaping up to be more along the lines of “gas prices are high because we’re trying to save your life and the lives of your children and grandchildren and the GOP doesn’t want to.”

From The Hill:

President Obama called out Capitol Hill’s “climate change deniers” Wednesday night at a Democratic fundraiser in California.

Obama, speaking at a San Francisco event for donors, called rising gasoline prices an economic drain on drivers and said curbing oil reliance is a “national security imperative.”

“And then there’s the environmental aspect of it. There are climate change deniers in Congress and when the economy gets tough, sometimes environmental issues drop from people’s radar screens,” Obama continued, speaking at the home of Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff.

“But I don’t think there’s any doubt that unless we are able to move forward in a serious way on clean energy that we’re putting our children and our grandchildren at risk,” Obama added.

The wealthy supporters in attendance at the $35,000 per person fundraiser then applauded wildly, got on their bicycles and pedaled home to their Ecopods. There was of course no mention of this national security threat.

Curbing oil reliance wasn’t a huge national security imperative last month:

Mr Obama spoke of the US’s desire to secure more of its oil from Brazil in future after talks with his counterpart, President Dilma Rousseff, in Brasilia at the start of a two-day visit to Latin America’s biggest country. “I have told her that the United States wants to be a major customer, which can be a win-win for both our countries,” he said.

Maybe the new push to battle climate change is because the president got nervous after James Cameron said that man-made global warming is now a greater threat than Skynet. For me it isn’t really a question of which of the two is the greater threat as much as which is the most fictional.

Not to worry, EPA is providing brand spankin’ new emission control mufflers to freakin’ old Mexican trucks crossing the border @ $1600 a pop (thank you NAFTA), so they can comply with our standards and then they can fill the vacuum right here in Mexifornia and many other states.

My brother-in-law had a good take on this. If we don’t drill in ANWR or in the Gulf, we can drain the OPEC countries of their oil. When that runs out, we will have ANWR and the Gulf oil and no one else will.

Of course, this assumes that the world’s supply of oil is pretty limited. I don’t believe that. I think there is MUCH more oil than the “experts” believe. Plus, what about the current situation? I don’t want to be stuck at $5-$10 per gallon gas for the rest of my life. Screw the socialists and their “we all must sacrifice” BS. Drill NOW!

If you inherited your parents property, but couldn’t stand the house they’d built on it, you might be inclined to raze the old structure to the ground so that you could put up something else more to your liking.

This is how Hope-a-Dope sees the economic and social institutions of the USA. He doesn’t try to hide the fact that he’s ashamed of this country – especially its preeminent place in the world – and he’s not interested in fixing it so much as rebuilding it to his liking.

Forcibly wrenching America’s energy economy from fossil fuels to pixie dust is part of this “creative destruction” process, just like crushing the capitalist economic system under a mountain of debt is.

The man wants his omelette. Our prosperous and successful way of life is an egg to him.

When people talk about Nero fiddling while Rome burned, what many of them don’t realize is that the Emperor already had the architectural plans drawn up for his new palace and the site selected for the same: right in the same parts of the city that were being reduced to ash.

One of the reasons the fire went on for days is because there was precious little Imperial interest in committing any resources to putting it out.

Occam’s razor tells me that when I watch a man and his associates laying waste to our economy and ultimately our way of life, Neolithic incompetence is a more likely explanation than malevolence. But after a while – when the incompetents act in such a uniformly destructive manner that you think they’d be capable just once of doing the right thing even for the wrong reasons yet fail to do so – you can’t help but to be drawn to the conclusion that the stupidity you’re witnessing is stupidity with a purpose.

Hope-a-Dope and his party don’t see anything wrong with America becoming a third world country, as long as they’re the ones ruling it. Because as long as they have power they believe they can exempt themselves from the general misery that will ensue.

That at the same time evil America will no longer be able to project its loathsome influence in the world will be just the cherry on top for them – a two-fer, as it were.

I agree. The theory is that there are vast pools of underground oil that are constantly being thrown near the earth’s crust by centrifugal force. As more cracks develop due to continental drift, oil will be forced up through them. So, in 500 or 1000 years, Brazil and The Phillipines could be the new Middle East, as far as oil is concerned. The current oil fields would dry up because the rifts they rely on get closed due to continental drift. In other words, there is much more oil that previously thought.

It sure does seem like that makes sense when you think of the geology of this planet.

No. If “drill here, drill now” goes wholly supported by the public, Obama will STILL take control of the debate and throw his environmental supporters under the bus. All he has to do is sign EOs and get the ball rolling with lifting or suspending rules and regs for domestic oil exploration and production. He will take advantage, as president he’s got most, if not all the marbles, or at least his string-pullers do. :)

I agree. The theory is that there are vast pools of underground oil that are constantly being thrown near the earth’s crust by centrifugal force. As more cracks develop due to continental drift, oil will be forced up through them.

I thought that was baloney but now I’m not sure. The geologic and engineering phenomenon of liquifaction is integral to this I’m sure. Now if we could just get dangerous and criminal politicians out of power…

Actually, if gas prices exceed $7 a gallon before the next election cycle, and it goes down to less than $5, for which he’ll take credit, might actually help him get re-elected, depending on what else is going on.

The only way that gas prices would come down from say $7 per gallon to $5 per gallon before November 2012 would be if Obama promised the oil companies something for helping him get elected. But the way he lies about “big oil” (whatever that is) I just don’t see them going along with it. Hell, I see “big oil” actually getting together and keeping prices high so that the republican challenger just has to look at the camera and say, “Are you better off now than you were 4 years ago?”

Liberalism, and Marxism need to be banned and the best approach is the Fair Tax coupled with the 12% GDP Balanced Budget amendment. Those two things alone will gut 80% of the leverage of the Left. Then if they won’t abide by that, they can fight a real revolution and we’ll see who comes out on top.

Someone please help me understand: If the way we currently procure oil domestically is anathema because it is environmentally damaging, not to mention the actual use of oil as a environmental threat, why would it then be OK to buy it from Brazil if they are just going to use the same techniques we would use to obtain oil? Isn’t the environment just as damaged? Or is the idea that at least if we stop drilling and only purchase from Brazil then at least ONE of the countries isn’t drilling so that saves the environment to that fractional degree?
