Earth Day Recycling

In honor of Earth Day, here’s a nice job of bumper sticker recycling from Tea Party Artwork:

null

Speaking of Earth Day, we all knew when Barack Obama was elected that the environment was a primary concern of his supporters –so much so that his inauguration in 2009 closely resembled the first Earth Day in 1970 (h/t C5s Simian Roadhouse):

null

Fitting tributes to environmental stewardship.

Here’s a passing thought on Earth Day. The United Nations is debating “human rights” for Mother Nature. If that’s ever the case, will trees be able to sue treehuggers for unwanted and inappropriate touching? If so I plan to get a government grant to conduct “good touch, bad touch” seminars for sequoias as well as a law degree so I can represent the Amazon rainforest when it files for a restraining order against James Cameron and his abusive carbon footprint.

Update: Earth Day-worthy information:

President Obama declared today’s 41st annual Earth Day proof of America’s ecological and conservation spirit—then completed a three-day campaign-style trip logging 10,666 miles on Air Force One, eating up some 53,300 gallons at a cost of about $180,000. And that doesn’t include the fuel consumption of his helicopter, limo, or the 29 other vehicles that travel with that car.

Update II: A co-founder of Earth Day is celebrating today by maintaining the greenest, most carbon neutral prison cell ever.

Update III: An Earth Day classic featuring George Carlin.

I would appreciate it if you would investigate this statement by National Public Radio –

Catholics receiving Holy Communion are like dogs taking a pill in Peanut Butter

As a catholic myself, I find this completely unacceptable. If this really was said, you can certainly understand why the majority of taxpayers want NPR and CPB to be defunded. Taxpayer money should not be used to make remarks of this kind. If taxpayer money was used to disparage the religion of environmentalism* in any way, I’m sure you would receive emails about that and the emailers would expect an investigation and publication of the findings. I would expect no less in this instance. Hurtful speech toward any religion in no way enhances your position that NPR and CPB should retain their public, taxpayer based, funding.

    Thank you.

I still stole one of their bagels, though.

Well, you may want to point out to them the harm to the planet that occurs when bagels are made. They are made from wheat so you have this whole farm thing with tractors and pesticides and irrigation, and combines and trucks. Then you have this processing thingy where honey and sugar and eggs are combined in them to give them the sweet taste. all those ingredients rquire their own processing using energy and oil. Then of course, the dough needs to be chilled so there is refrigeration and all that energy used for that. Then they have to be baked, which of course requires electricity which is generated by basically burning oil along with the energy used up to make the equipment to do that. The workers that do all this have to drive to work and there are lights on in the factories and there is a lot of equipment to make the equipment that was also made using energy and oil and parts of the earth from mining and trees and stuff like that, then they are wrapped in paper or plastic and trucked around the world so they can sit in grocery stores or other buildings which also have lights and equipment and employees and…whew.

If everyone cut out one bagel a week, we could save the planet. We don’t need Earth Day. We need Don’t Eat Bagel Day.

Did they put cream cheese on the bagel? Well, to make cream cheese requires…

    Hope they didn’t use a napkin because…

    Update from Rosslyn Smith:

I dislike it when vicious mountebanks like Einhorn became infamous while their victims remain nameless. Her name was Holly Maddux. and her family waited a long time to see justice done. She was an effervescent wisp of a blond from Tyler, Texas and a graduate of Bryn Mawr. Holly had ended an often abusive five year relationship with Einhorn by moving to New York. She only returned to Philadelphia because when she called to tell Einhorn that it was over for good and that she had a new boyfriend, Einhorn threatened to throw all her belongings out on the street if she didn’t hurry back to retrieve them. She did and was never seen again.

Alright, now that just puts my blood pressure way up. Unbelievable that the worm’s still alive. Public executions really need to come back. April 22 looks like a good day for it.

Along a similar note, I couldn’t help notice this byline from the MSNBC story Doug linked to in the blog post:

“Ira Einhorn preached against Vietnam War and violence, but had dark side”

That looks like it belongs right up there with “Stimulus package spent over a trillion, but had downside”, or “Incarceration is up but crime is down”.

By the way, I was hoping to see more buzz on this thread about the other part of what the post is about: Herman Cain. The establishment (conservative and liberal) is still ignoring him. We need to get a move on here.
