Mitt Romney spoke in New Hampshire yesterday and discovered a metaphor that will probably never again see the light of day:
“You remember during the Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter debates that Ronald Reagan came up with this great thing about the misery index, and he hung that around Jimmy Carter’s neck and that had a lot to do with Jimmy Carter losing. Well we’re going to hang the Obama misery index around his neck.”
He continued, “ The fact that you’ve got people in this country really squeezed…We’re going to hang him with that, so to speak, metaphorically, with uh, you have to be careful these days.”
Will the Democrats carefully excise the “we’re going to hang him” byte and use it over and over again in anti Romney ads? And risk destroying the single greatest scapegoat for Obamacare they’ve got? Not a chance:
“You will note that [Obama] and the Democrats constantly want to give me credit for their plan,” Romney said, alluding to recent comments from Obama and national Democrats likening the two plans. “You know there’s a method to their madness. But let me tell you this, if and when I have the occasion to debate President Obama, I’m gonna ask him this question: ‘Mr. President, why didn’t you call me and ask how it worked?'”
Stop digging, Mitt… and hand somebody that rope before you hurt yourself even more.
Rick Moran at the American Thinker:
Romney isn’t going anywhere until he does a full frontal mea culpa – just like Dems who voted for the Iraq War were forced to do in 2004. It will be an albatross slung around his neck until he shows Republicans that he realizes the error of his ways.
Then the Democrats will run the ad with the “we’re going to hang him” quote.
