Happy Birthday, Marizela

Marizela Perez turns 19 today.
Happy Birthday, Emem!
As you know, my beloved cousin has been missing nearly two months.
Her parents, family, and friends continue to search Seattle and beyond. Strangers near and far are working on the case. Praying. Hoping. Pushing. But there have been no new leads since the last time I updated you. No bank activity. No online or phone activity. No progress in the police investigation.
We have been pressing the Jack in the Box Corporation to help us obtain surveillance video at one of its University District-area restaurants on the corner near her last known whereabouts. But still no help.
We are waiting to hear whether Google will help us obtain crucial web search/browsing history that could shed light on what happened, and whom she may have contacted or met, on the March 5 afternoon she disappeared. But still no word.
We have pressed the police to issue warrants to AT&T, Facebook, and AOL to preserve and obtain all relevant perishable data that could rule in or rule out foul play. But still no progress.
Emem, if you are out there: We are sending you all our love and strength.
Know that you are missed and we are doing everything we can to bring you home safely.
On May 8 in Seattle, family and friends will hold a benefit concert in honor of Marizela. All proceeds will support the search for Marizela.
In honor of Marizela’s birthday, please watch the family’s video about the benefit concert below, embed, and spread the word.
If you are able, please join us. You can lend your talent and time:
Sunday, May 8 · 6:30pm – 9:30pm
UW Ethnic Cultural Theater
3931 Brooklyn Ave
Seattle, WA
The concert will have live music, spoken word, dances, and different speakers from the University of Washington Seattle Campus, but will also be open to the audience if they want to perform or say a few words. There will be a silent auction before and during the event with amazing art created by Marizela herself. Other organizations will be selling different things and a portion of their proceeds while help the Perez family. There will also be a raffle.
Doors will open at 6:30PM
The show will start at 7:00PM
The price is a sliding scale of $5-$10.
On behalf of the Perez family, we hope that you can come to this event and help support in any way possible or by inviting others to attend.

If it seems surrealistic to me, I can not even begin to imagine how it is for you and your family. Please bring her home!
Happy Birthday sweetie, wherever you are! Please come home safe, sound and SOON!
I just sent them a polite note.
Kudos to Safeway for making their video available early on, hiss to Jack for not helping.
Perhaps our resident attorney could send a nice note on his letterhead…
I can’t believe she hasn’t turned up yet. It must be devastating for her parents especially. Here’s hoping for a safe return and reunion. Good luck Michelle. I’m praying for you and your family.
This is the Google that drove around in their photo vans sucking up unencrypted data from wireless routers, and is now hiding info?
Oh Michelle, my heart aches for you and your family. I know with each passing day things look hopeless, but I also know that miracles can and do happen. I continue to pray for a Marizela miracle. If I could, I would give you a big hug. Please Lord, help Michelle and her family find Marizela safe and sound the sooner the better.
Re: Aloha Guy: Amen. Keep putting on the pressure. It’s astounding that they will not help find a missing human being.
Perhaps such a small cog in their profit machine doesn’t warrant assistance. I will remember this when I make purchases.
Please keep us up to date as to what organizations, including law enforcement, help or refuse help.
Keep plugging Michelle, you and the family are in my prayers.
I continue to pray every day for Marizela’s safe return. Don’t give up hope! God will give you His peace through all this and keep you strong for Marizela.
Michelle,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and Marizela’s family.
It is unconscionable that Google, At&T, AOL,Facebook AND the police are hindering the investigation.
Couldn’t say it better.
So sad…. I hope this doesn’t sound crass, but try to stay busy. If you spend all your time thinking about it, it will zap all your strength and energy. Thoughts and prayers for you and your family. Never give up hope!
I agree… My daily thoughts and prayers go out for you. The Man doesn’t know me as well as He should but that’s my fault. I see it as every little bit helps. Hope I’m right.
Correction: I don’t talk to the Man as often as I should, but that’s my fault!
Still praying for Marizela and your whole family, and now all the friends in the video.
God grant you His peace that passes all understanding.
“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1
Happy Birthday Marizela! Like Swede used to say here, and probably still does wherever he is, LORD, bring her home.
We still pray for her safe return, and spread the word where we are. We talk as much as we can with people, and they are indeed interested.
Someone’s going to spot her and get her home.
Thanks for the update,Michell. I am so sorry there have been no leads. Marizela and your family remain in my daily prayers.
Praying, praying, praying for Marizela and all of her family, especially her parents and you, Michele. I keep hoping everyday when I look at your site that I will see that she is home safe and sound. Pray God that it will soon happen.
Great big hug to you and yours, Michelle because I know you all are in a place that none of us can even begin to understand.
God be with Marizela, you, and your family. We pray for her return and that no one else has to live through the heartbreak you and her family have had to endure. Wishing Marizela God’s richest blessings for her 19th birthday, and for the one clue or tip that will bring her home.

Trust in God.
Michelle, my Prayers for a happy outcome are added to all the kind words from your adoring friends here on the blog.
God Bless and Stay Strong
We need to get that info released.
Maybe Fox could help?
A mixture of them and a friendly Congressman.
Dear God, I continue to pray for good news.
It breaks my heart every time I read your updates on the status of the search. I think what it would be like for my little boy to go missing, and the boundaries even of the hypothetical grief are shattering. I pray God brings her back.
Continued prayers for Michelle and her family.
I have been praying daily for Marizela and all family members since you told us about his missing, Michelle.
A sad fact, my prayer list grows daily with all the horrible weather and wars all over the world. My faith says God hears prayers and there are millions going to Him daily.

May the Lord guide the searchers to MeMe. And may He comfort your family while the waiting and working continues.

Supposedly 30,000 people disappear in the U.S.A. every year–and very few are ever found. There are lots of predators in our midst. Our country–and the world–are really gigantic places. When you drive through the American West, Mexico, or Canada–so much empty space.

The human “footprint” on our planet is very small compared to the total area. But every so often the missing are located after so long a time hunting.

Hoping for the best birthday gift anyone could hope for, finding Marizela.
I feel for you and your family Michelle and I keep all of you in my prayers. I was hoping Marizela would be found long ago and it saddens me that she is still missing. I will continue to keep you and your family in my prayers until she is found.
Keep hope alive. Happy Birthday Marizela. My thoughts and prayers for you Marizela and your family who are aching for you to come home.
I guess I can’t understand why these companies wouldn’t want to help in such a case.
I am continuing to pray for any leads or help in finding her.
Marizela, most people long for the very love you are running from. Go back and grab it and never let it go.
Faith, hope and love abide, these three, but the greatest of these is love.
Daily prayers continue here for Em Em and the entire family. God will make a way.
I wrote the following letter to Jack in the Box. Anyone can feel free to use it, although it would be more effective if you wrote something in your own, different words. Dont want them to think theyre getting a form letter:
Doesnt a judge have to issue such warrants?
God is still with you and Marizela.
Happy belated Birthday Marizella, please come home, you have some candles to attend to. Wherever you are, may God keep you safe.
I don’t understand why these businesses do not provide evidence to the authorities. Perhaps we need to change our laws to provide evidence in the event of missing person and criminal situations.
It would have been so great to see your blog reporting that Marizella is home celebrating her birthday…but, sadly, it is not to be today.. We continue to pray.
The difficulty is adults have the right to run away, and to privacy of certain transactions, including the use of internet services they contracted for themselves.
There is a fuzzy border on what constitutes enough evidence of danger to an incompetent person or evidence of a crime against or by that person, to pry into personal records. Third parties mentioned above, especially Google, will cooperate with criminal investigations but not the requests of interested family or friends, and may require warrants/court orders to release information that is ordinarily protected.
In Marizela’s case, the absence of overt evidence of foul play or dangerous mental state but the suggestive and disturbing lack of not only contact with any of her friends, and seeming abandonment of her resources, including phone, bank, and computer, coupled with her history of depression put her case in a gray area.
I and most others are not privy to her last known conversations with friends and family, or habits, or history – but apparently there is no threat of self-harm or obviously disturbed state to clearly warrant intervention and access to her private dealings. There are no reported threats against her, or any physical evidence of attack or self-harm, nor witnesses to a struggle or mishap or strange behavior.
There may be more basis for warrants than I know, but given what I know, there is only weak circumstantial evidence – her lack of contact, her history of illness, and her abandonment of her resources) to justify them.
Jack in the Box might drag their heels for any number of reasons, including never or no longer having any video to share with investigators.
I think the real problem must be the police investigators are less aggressive than they could be, for reasons mentioned above.
