Time Once Again to Play ‘What’s Making John Boehner Cry?’

By Doug Powers  •  May 4, 2011 04:37 PM

**Written by Doug Powers

Speaker of the House John Boehner is known for shedding a tear from time to time. Yesterday was one of those days:

null

Why was Boehner crying?

You might be guessing that it could have something to do with Bin Laden’s demise bringing back memories of that horrible day that was 9/11, which would be understandable, but that’s not it.

Give up? Take a tissue before I tell you, because you just might join him in waterworks:

null

Okay, the Speaker was moved to tears because he was at the unveiling of a statue of… Gerald Ford.

Boehner needs to be aware that doing this publicly puts him dangerously close to being a Jeff Foxworthy-style punchline: “If you’re a congressman who claims to be conservative and you’ve ever broken down into tears at the unveiling of a statue of Gerald Ford… you might be a RINO…”

A picture of the statue is here. Please pass the Kleenex.

If you want to understand the disconnect between the Beltway mindset and those of beyond the Beltway, ponder this article lead in.

House Speaker John Boehner said on Thursday that Republicans will not vote to raise the debt limit without budget reforms and spending cuts totaling trillions of dollars.

That is the GOP position. It never dawns on them that if they just refused to raise the debt ceiling that would FORCE Congress to enact their budget reforms and spending cuts, as well as even more, to balance the budget.

The GOP is thoroughly unwilling to stand on principle and play hardball.

I do not like their principles, but I tip my hat to Progressives. If they were in Boehner’s shoes they wouldn’t hesitate to use that tactic to push their agenda.

It sounds like Boehner needs to listen to the What Every Boy Needs To Know To Be A Man Speech:

If you want to believe in something, believe in it. Just because something isn’t true doesn’t mean you can’t believe in it. Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most:

    That people are basically good.

That courage, honor and virtue mean everything.

That power and money, money and power mean nothing.

That good always triumphs over evil.

    And I want you to remember this;

    That love,true love,

    Never dies.

You remember that boy, remember that.

Whether they’re true or not those are the things a man should believe in because those are the things worth believing IN. Got that?
