No, Obama didn’t remove American flag from Ground Zero
Earlier this morning, I tweeted a link to Doug Ross’s post highlighting a seemingly outrageous photo from ABC News White House reporter Jake Tapper showing the American flag being removed from Ground Zero.
Tapper wrote: “One minute to air and they decided to take the flag down from the live shot!”
Many, including me, jumped to the conclusion that the stage managers at the White House had the flag removed.
It’s not true.
As Allahpundit points out, Tapper tweeted the photo at the end of the day yesterday after the Ground Zero event and the flag was visible during the ceremony.
I stand corrected and apologize for the error.

No apologies necessary, Michelle. With this bunch of idiots in charge of our country, anything could be construed as actual until they do an about-face.
Thank you for keeping us in the loop.
Regards,
Peter H.
Things like this are sort of like stories from The Onion; it’s funny, because it seems believable. Keep up the great work!
Classy move MM. Limbaugh and Hannity can learn a lot from you.
This is what happens with instant news flashing. Glad you corrected yourself.
You are an honest person Michelle and always tell us the truth. If you get information that was not, you correct it. Thanks for the correction.
L
This is what makes you more of a journalist than a lot of “journalists” these days, Michelle. Respect for the truth, no matter where it leads.
What separates you even more is that you don’t need to be prodded on those rare occasions when you need to correct something.
Applause.
Miss Michelle..you got more guts then some people. It takes a STRONG person to correct themselves…Mahalo!
What is scary is that people would believe such a thing of the President of the United States. Sad and scary. Thanks for the correction, MM! We love you.
Nothing like conservative bloggers going off half cocked. BTW on 8 places are authorized by law or executive order to fly the Flag 24/7 and Ground Zero isn’t one of them. Figured the House GOP would have set that to high priority, you know before the jobs bill.
Especially in that we have a president of whom we can believe it.
Though I’m now trying to figure out why they would remove it at any time, unless it’s to finally start construction.
Unless the flag is illuminated, it is not to be flown or displayed at night.
The shadows in the photo appear to indicate late afternoon. Perhaps they are taking it down at night, although were it lit properly this would be unnecessary.
That’s what I meant…that we think so little of this POTUS (with good reason) that we would believe a story like this. It is totally understandable that MM believed it, considering what a POS the guy is.
Michelle, class act to apologize. The Left never does. Your simple and timely apology demonstrates clearly that we on the right behave like adults when acknowledging an error.
There. I fixed your typo.
Dear Hillbillies,
Please go out and find work. Because it’s clear you’re sitting around too much and focusing on the most idiotic things.
Thanks,
ILMC

How does it feel to be completely irrelevant in this world? I pity you. You have nothing better to do with your time except make stupid comments that contribute nothing and mean even less. There you are, sitting around in your jammies with the feet making yourself out to be a complete moron. How pathetic your life is. Sucks to be you.
Now, I feel better and am leaving this thread. It is obviously dead. You just killed it.
Why would anyone believe such a crazy story in the first place?
What possible motivation would Obama have to require that the American flag not be present at Ground Zero?
If one applies a little critical thinking to these whack stories they would never get so far along….
Did they do a flyover with AF1 also?
Unfortunately, your guy has caused unemployment to rise again. How does it feel to be personally responsible (you voted for the amateur) for keeping so many people from working?
Because this POTUS has shown repeatedly that he knows nothing of what the US is about, plods steadly on a course to destroy this nation (Oil, energy policies, etc), calls cops stupid with knowing any facts, leaves out ‘God’ in numerous occasions while reciting historical documents, and so on. Get the picture?

A very courteous post by you. Shultz, O,Donnell, and Maddow could learn a lot from you.
Just go back to your Kool Aid and stop insulting the person who allows you to make those rude comments on HER blog. Geez….Can we find even ONE regressive who has any class???
I am not insulting anyone, just suggesting that silly stories fall apart quickly on scrutiny and should not be passed along without a little journalistic research. Many people who read the initial post may not have read the retraction and might take the flag story as truth. I am sure there are people to this day that think that Michelle Obama ordered lobster and caviar from room service at the Waldorf in New York, when in fact she was never there. Retractions never erase the false information completely, although they are necessary and appreciated.
Hardly an insult. Your crack about the Kool Aid, however……
The problem for Obama is, that it is totally believable that he WOULD remove the American flag before his photo op. No one would EVER believe something like that about Bush. @gayright
There are literally thousands of people in media and government who should learn the power of these simple words.
Why, indeed. Why would anyone believe a story that claimed the man running for president said that at some point you have earned enough money. Or that same man would say he would bankrupt coal companies. Or that his wife would claim she had never been proud of America. Or that someone would pal around with a terrorist bomber and even use his house to announce his candidacy. Or that a known Islamic extremist would be accepted into the military due to political correctness and wind up killing dozens. Or that a girl who makes straight A’s would be expelled from school for giving another girl an aspirin on the bus. Or that a man who had already run for vice president and was running for president had committed adultery on his dying wife and fathered a ‘love child’. Or that a US Senator who insisted that everyone pay higher taxes had hidden his yacht in another state to avoid taxes.
Shall I go on?
Part of the confusion is probably in the way ol’Tapper presented the tweet, with a exclamation point at the end. Regardless, he and others are continuing the childish behavior with little girl tweets, condemning even the thought that such an occurrence could happen.
Journalism is dead for the most part. If Twitter had been around in the days of Cronkite, Murrow, Brinkley et al, I doubt they would be having public pissing contests with each other. The retraction from MM is unusual these days and very welcome, kudos Michele.
And so it goes..
He is a flat out socialist. Socialism is completely opposite of what this country is about. Therefore is actions are alway for the destruction of this country. His actions and words absolutely proves that.
Perhaps you should deal with the commentors at places like MotherJones first. I was over there this morning, and about the most substantive response from the liberal side of the aisle in teh comments on the ridiculous article “Is Cheney ready to apologize to Obama yet?” was the type-written equivalent of “neener neener neener“.
As much as some may enjoy your thought provoking comments, I believe you, sir, are in violation of the terms of use.
You’ll probably be given a pass, of course. The stark comparison of your level of class to MM’s is pure black and white.
Kudos Michelle for standing on principle.

Dan Rather, call your office.
I basically work in an office, but if I happen to be traveling when visiting a job assignment, I will tune in to Rush’s show. On one show some time ago, he mentioned about being at a get-together where Hillary Clinton was in attendance, and he specifically asked to meet her. At that time, he apologized to her for an occurrence that happened on his TV show when a technician pulled a stunt and showed a picture of Chelsea Clinton when Rush made a reference to a dog. The technician was immediately fired.
I thought it was classy of Rush to apologize in this manner. When he mentioned it on the radio, he spoke about it in a subdued manner and not like he wanted to grandstand about the matter.
Very well said!! When you lay them all out like that, I get a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. How have the people in this country come to this? The immorality and corruption is just plain disgusting. Just think if the Kool Aid drinkers would have elected Thurston/PrettyBoy! We came so close to having those two weasles in charge of our country! Obama is a socialist. But those two are both just plain a$$holes. Excuse me while I hurl.

Oh no! How will Democrats scrub the web of Michelle’s apology and correction? This is unheard of in journalism. If she thinks she is setting a precedent, Columbia School of Journalism will fail any little bastard who thinks she/he can get away with an apology and correction in their papers and reporting. The campus has a No guns policy. And now add to that a No Malkin policy.
This is why you are trusted so much by those of us on your blog, Ms. Malkin. Have you considered a career in the LPGA? This kind of honesty is found among professional and amateur golfers and is refreshing.
Perhaps a reference to a certain Rep. Anthony Wiener? Maybe not.
“Hillbillies” is a term often used to describe the rural poor in certain regions (the Ozarks, for instance.) I’m sure you didn’t mean it this way, but the word itself is basically making fun of certain groups of poor people, which I don’t think you really want to do.
PS: This correction shows a lot of class, and is a good example of why I like MM even though I disagree with her on almost everything. I think she has integrity.
Will the LSM actually apologize for their journalistic errors? Nevah.
Happy Mother’s Day, Michelle. You are a classy lady journalist we trust for the truth. BHO is so destructive and dangerous to this country, I would not have been surprised if he ordered the flag removed and, as ‘happyscrapper’ says, isn’t that sad?
States must exert their constitutional right to get this monster federal government off our backs. God bless the real public servants -the military who put their lives on the line to protect our vanishing freedoms.
Calif dept of trans just veto’d the flying of our flag at a new memorial in the town of Orcutt. So sick of gov’t agencies telling us where we can fly the AMERICAN flag. Everyone should fly it, 24/7. EVERYWHERE !
Ota Benga,
Yes, Michelle exhibited common, normal behavior for her. That honesty is often missing from the left, but not missing from Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity.
If you are referring to correcting errors made, then Limbaugh and Hannity already exercise that self correcting behavior, for they have both been oustanding, upstanding examples of admitting their errors and correcting them. This is especially true for Rush Limbaugh.
Nevertheless, since I like both Michelle Malkin and Rush Limbaugh, I suppose it can be assumed that they can both learn something from one another, be it their delivery techniques, their research techniques, their methods of deflecting attacks from the less intelligent, misguided, mean spirited media and leftist nuts, but I like them both for who they are and how they do what they do.
Come to think of it, they don’t need to learn from one another, for they are both excellent in their own rite.
More power to Michelle and Rush.
Hannity is okay in my book, but he does often interrupt people while they are speaking, making his interview-discussion sessons rather hyper and spastic, although he is not anywhere near as bad as the hyperactive, constantly hyperventilating, fabrication, leftist talking point pushing MSNBC over rated, misguided Chris Matthews.
