Today’s syndicated column summarizes the week in bin Laden narrative bungles. The Navy SEALs did what they were told to do. It’s President Obama’s civilian messengers who can’t tell a straight story and do right by our heroes who risked their lives. The White House Keystone Kops aren’t just squandering a public opinion bump. They’re squandering the victory of our men in uniform, along with the intel-gatherers who made the mission possible. Milblogger Greyhawk reminds us of a past bungled narrative from this administration that undermined troop morale and national security. As Blackfive military blogger Froggy put it bluntly: “Get your s**t together, Mr President!”

The official White House account of Osama bin Laden’s demise has seen more slapdash cosmetic surgery over the past week than your average “Real Housewives” reality-show star. President Obama’s allies attribute the bungled “narrative” (their word, not mine) to the “Fog of War.” But each passing day — and each new set of hapless revisions — shows that what really ails the administration is the Fog of Fog.
Errors happen. Miscommunications happen. Confusing the name of which of bin Laden’s myriad sons died (Hamza, not Khalid), for example, is no biggie.
But the hourly revamping of key details of Sunday’s raid suggests something far beyond the usual realm of situational uncertainty that accompanies any military operation. The Navy SEALs did their job spectacularly. The civilians tasked with letting the world know about the mission, however, have performed like amateur dinner theater actors in a tragi-comic production of “Rashomon-meets-The Blind Men and the Elephant-meets-Keystone Kops.”
Incapable of straightforward answers, Team Obama’s clarity-challenged civilians have led nauseated news-watchers through more twists and turns than San Francisco’s Lombard Street.
Take your Dramamine, and let’s review.
Take One: Bin Laden died in a bloody firefight.
On Sunday night, Obama dramatically told the world that “after a firefight,” our brave men in uniform “killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body.”
Embellishing the story the next morning, White House deputy national security adviser John Brennan said at his briefing that bin Laden “was engaged in a firefight with those that entered the area of the house he was in. … And whether or not he got off any rounds, I quite frankly don’t know. … It was a firefight. He, therefore, was killed in that firefight.”
Take Two: Bin Laden did not engage in a firefight.
The day after Brennan disclosed such vivid details, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney walked them back Michael Jackson-style. Bin Laden, he said in version 2.0, “was not armed.” Brennan had clearly implied that bin Laden “resisted” with arms. Carney amended the narrative by insisting that “resistance does not require a firearm.” How exactly bin Laden resisted, Carney would not say.
It’s been all downhill, uphill, K-turns and 180s ever since. Fasten your seatbelts:
Take Three: Bin Laden’s wife died after her feckless husband used her as a human shield.
Take Four: Bin Laden’s wife did not die, wasn’t used as a human shield and was only shot in the leg. Someone else’s wife was killed, somewhere else in the house.
Take Five: A transport helicopter experienced “mechanical failure” and was forced to make a hard landing during the mission.
Take Six: A top-secret helicopter clipped the bin Laden compound wall, crashed and was purposely exploded after the mission to prevent our enemies from learning more about it.
Take Seven: The bin Laden photos would be released to the world as proof positive of his death.
Take Eight: The bin Laden photos would not be released to the world because no one needs proof and it’s more important to avoid offending peaceful Muslims who supposedly don’t embrace bin Laden as a “true” Muslim in the first place.
Take Nine: Bin Laden’s compound was a lavish mansion.
Take Ten: Bin Laden’s compound was a glorified pigsty.
Take Eleven: Bin Laden’s compound had absolutely no television, phone or computer access.
Take Twelve: Bin Laden’s compound was stocked with hard drives, thumb drives, DVDs and computers galore.
Take Thirteen: Er, remember that statement about bin Laden being armed? And then not armed? Well, the new version is that he had an AK-47 “nearby.”
Take Fourteen: A gung-ho Obama spearheaded the “gutsy” mission.
Take Fifteen: A reluctant Obama dithered for 16 hours before being persuaded by CIA Director Leon Panetta.
Take Sixteen: Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and close advisers watched the raid unfold in real time — “minute by minute,” according to Carney — and a gripping insider photo was posted immediately by the White House on the Flickr picture-sharing website for all to see.
Take Seventeen: Er, they weren’t really watching real-time video “minute by minute” because there was at least nearly a half-hour that they “didn’t know just exactly what was going on,” Panetta clarified. Or rather, un-clarified.
Take Eighteen: Stalwart Obama’s order was to kill, not capture, bin Laden.
Take Nineteen: Sensitive Obama’s order was to kill (SET ITAL) or (END ITAL) capture — and that’s why the SEAL team gave him a chance to surrender, upon which he resisted with arms, or actually didn’t resist with arms, but sort of resisted without arms, except there was an AK-47 nearby, sort of, or maybe not, thus making it possible to assert that while Decisive Obama did tell the SEALs to kill bin Laden and should claim all credit for doing so, Progressive Obama can also be absolved by bleeding hearts because of the painstakingly concocted post facto possibility that bin Laden somehow threatened our military — telepathically or something — before being taken out.
Take Twenty: “We’ve been as forthcoming with facts as we can be,” said an irritated Carney on Wednesday.
And they wonder why Americans of all political stripes think they’re blowing smoke.

Well the HQ for 160th is there as well as the 1st and 2nd bat, the 3rd bat is at Ft Gordon, and the 4th bat is at JBLM (formerly known as Fort Lewsi).
The 160th was also the group involved in the “Black Hawk Down” deal in Somalia. I was stationed at Ft Campbell at the time with the 3/327th infantry. The guys from the 160th that were not over in Somalia wanted to leave instantly to go get Durant and the bastards who had treated our troops so disrespectfully (dragging their bodies through the streets). I got to meet Michael Durant when he got back and I will never forget it.

The crew working for Obeyme’s re-election WANT, no need, for us to be completely bewildered and thay want us to know only one thing: Obeyme is a hero–HE ordered the killing of OBL–and HE is the country’s biggest hero.

Everyone is overthinking this. I don’t care about the details of the raid, or if different versions have come out over the last few days. The crucial detail is that Navy SEALs killed bin Laden. Bin Laden has passed on. He is no more. He has ceased to be. He has expired and gone to meet his maker. He is a stiff. He is bereft of life. He rests in peace. His metabolic processes are now history. He has kicked the bucket. He has shuffled off his mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the choir invisibile! He is an EX-terrorist!
I thought I was watching SNL. The only thing worse than having those morons all together in the same room, is to release each one to make comments to the media. The SEAL are the true “elites”. Politicians are crap and trash.
With the left, it’s all about the “narrative”. How about you give us the facts, and we’ll come up with our own “narrative”?
If International pressure mounts against the OBL operation due to the information that OBL was unarmed when killed, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Holder and BHO threw them under the bus. That would however, seal BHO’s fate in 2012 (pun intended), so he cannot and will not do it.
Our SEAL Teams are composed of the best, brightest, most highly trained and competent warriors we can produce. They are expected to kill and blow things up….that’s all. They are not police officers in an American city trying to enforce the law, thank God.
Obama isn’t releasing the photos, because, he said, “That’s not who we are”. Listen, Mr. President. I advocate releasing the photos, and it says nothing about “who I am”. And you have no idea who I am, either. So, stuff it.
Like Sarah Palin said, it’s part of the mission. Release the photos. It’s pro forma. It’s “duh”.
What’s most unfortunate is that these retakes are really lies. They are not telling the truth and as each lie is exposed, they create another lie to cover it up.
I read a book when I was a kid about the mad scientists club of kids that built a loch ness type monster in their local lake. When it was seen and became a tourist attraction, they lied about it and kept the lie going because they didn’t know what to do. Eventually, the lie grew so big and conflated that the kids had to come clean with the truth. Thats what I am seeing here.
Errah, Lie after lie after lie after lie to quote a former liar. Tell the truth Mr President and things will be a little easier for you.

This information is startling, considering that the President is using Jarrett to make decisions about national security, and God knows what else.
For those of you that haven’t heard, there was reportedly a “temporary coup” by SecDef Gates, SecState Clinton, and CIA Director, Leon Panetta.
This might explain all the confusion, and rapid revisionist stories coming out of the “What House” regarding the Usama Operation.
This MUST be investigated…an unelected advisor shaping US policy, and an impotent President who’s acting like a bullied husband around Jarrett?

Greyhawk’s analysis of Obama’s sham drawdown of US forces in Iraq is intriguing and maddening. Everything is sacrificed at the alter of Obama ego, including our troops and their missions.
It’s no stretch of the imagination that a man who’s willing to waste training time and resources of troops will waste time and resources hiding his past. It’s all fodder, to benefit his agenda.

The Obama campaign will continue to shout “racist!” to shut opponents up and will shout “Bin Laden, Bin Laden” to steal the valor and glory from others – because they have to.

Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing for sure, though I have this tingly feeling that I cannor shake.
I have listened to radio talk shows – local and national – and, all of them have taken this line of thinking.
There was a time when what MM posted that Hannity followed almost line by line and story by story. Debbie Schussel took Hannity to task for not giving her credit. Yes, it is the news of the day, however MM posted this at 8:36 am and everyone who talked about the subject, talked about it later in the day.
My caveat – I don’t read every blog by everyone yet it seems to me that MM sets the agenda for the day and provides useful and fact based information that many other outlets use. And, use without attribution.
Not an accussation just a feeling.

I thought about this yesterday but forgot to post a comment about it.
Since military action was taken anywhere after 911, there have been instances where soldiers were in the REAL “Fog of War”, the most memorable being Haditha.
It really pi$$es me off that no matter what happened on the battlefield, sniveling leftists were demanding prosecutions for any soldiers involved in what happened in that fog.
Blowhards like Murtha never bothered with explanations, but labeled those who were in that fog as cold blooded murders.
Jawn Cary ignored any fog and declared our soldiers terrorized women and children.
At no time that I can remember was any member of the military given the benefit of the doubt by the left.
Not to mention the initial picture posted by the WH of the armchair warriors didn’t show any fog at all.
These jagweeds had ever opportunity to get it right, or shut the hell up until they did. But showing Urkel going commando was more important.
I read that. I also remembered all the fawning media crap on how stylish she was, and wondered what her qualifications were in the slightest to even be aware of the mission let along have any say in it.
The article seemed to suggest Daley had a meeting with her and told her to shut her piehole. She needs to be fired immediately.

Especially, when the Obama networks showed numerous exterior pictures of the UBL compound. Clearly, showing a very large satellite dish in the back of the main building. Or was I mistaken and it was giant Birdbath/cistern tilted to drain the collected water.
The mainstream media must return for remedial training. Specifically, that communications do not require wires on poles or electricity supplied by PGE “Pakistan Gastropod Electionalelectrons”.

Good point Hiraghm. Anwar Al-Alwaki is as eligible as Barry Soetoro to be Resident. Not President, because the Constitution says you must be a natural born citizen and neither of them are. Both of them are native born citizens and the founders found that to be insufficient. Too bad Americans are too stupid to understand the simple words of their own Constitution.

Some simply refuse to believe that there can be more than one class of, “citizen”. Once the act of getting Obama illegally elected was completed there was no choice for the enablers but to maintain an all out effort to prevent the truth from ever being widely known. Can you say, “Pelosi in prison orange”, or “Democrat Party destroyed”? The people who are knowingly involved in attempting to change the meaning of the Constitution and supporting Obama’s fake life story are in the thousands. The media, including the, “conservative”, media have been turned into Obama lap dogs, afraid to seriously question ANYTHING about The One. At best the conservatives are, “controlled opposition”, to Barry. Opposition is OK, as long is cannot literally result in the usurper being removed from the office he stole, then it’s a no-no, and even discussing it is a, “distraction”.
What a bunch of wimps Congress, the media and the courts have turned out to be. No investigation needed, everything is OK cause we say it is, besides, it’s not GWB or Palin we’re taking about here, ya’ know?
I still believe, (Ok, hope), the truth will eventually be exposed, the hidden records revealed, the missing time frames in Obama’s past filled in, and the hospital refusal to acknowledge Barry was born there exposed for what it is…he wasn’t.
Accepting this obvious charade and saying, “nothing can be done”, or, “just defeat them in the 2012 election”, is to surrender the country to an domestic enemy, insulting the memory of all those who fought to protect our nation from foreign external enemies, including my Dad as a Marine in WWII. Many gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Watching the administration step on each others’ dresses doesn’t upset me; perhaps I’m just used to it. What does bother me, as David Beamer put it best, is the “excessive use of the personal pronoun” in Obama’s speeches. Let’s face it. Bush would not have done the victory lap/campaign stops (sans “mission accomplished” and it’s context). Not to mention dispatching the talking points memo on what a great military leader this former community organizer is. The decision was a ground ball. The PR love-fest is an epic failure on the part of our president.

The Patrona’s life has changed over the last few years. She did a good job on this site and expanded and then divested part of it into the excellent HotAir Site. And she has moved into stints on Fox TV also.

But her time is limited. The move to Castlerock, Colorado. More good books–with lots of research and fact checking. And now–the disappearance of her Cousin Mei in Seattle. My guess is that she is putting in at least 20 hours a week in the search for this missing young woman.

A busy person has to prioritize their time. And most of us have important family responsibilities that must be taken care of. We just can’t do everything at once. We end up all frazzled and can’t do good jobs anymore if we get overloaded.

You know Where you were the moment you were born is much less of an issue that where you were when you were growing up, your formative years….you went to American schools, and saluted the American flag….or you went to Muslim Schools and prayed for the destruction of the American flag?
Which is why the Constitutional requirement for the office of president is more than were you were born, It’s natural born Citizen…not native born.
The citizenship of ones parents, (that’s parent(s), as in both of them), must be American. If that requirement is ignored the chances of Obama or someone like him as “president” are greatly increased. The founders of our nation knew that was the case, but they failed to account for the future dumbing down of the country they so loved. The fabulous document they produced called the Constitution can only work if it is adhered to.

All points acknowledged. Maybe it’s just a fallow season. But this blog is getting to be pretty much just a public bulletin board provided as an outlet for commenters, as a public skateboard park is a facility for skaters. Dwindling in terms of value to the general public, I think.
