Obama Announces New Oil Drilling for EPA to Block

By Doug Powers  •  May 15, 2011 12:28 PM

One of President Obama’s 2012 slogans should be “Drill, maybe, drill.” Obama knows that merely a call for drilling isn’t actually drilling, so publicly he can sound as drill-happy as Daniel Plainview in There Will Be Blood (as he did early last year and is starting to again). As long as the EPA is there to block or revoke permits, Obama can, with a wink and a nudge, keep the “green” in his corner:

President Barack Obama, under pressure over high gasoline prices, Saturday committed to annual oil and gas lease sales in Alaska’s National Petroleum Reserve and to speeding up production in other areas.

In his weekly radio and Internet address, the US leader admitted that one of the biggest burdens for US consumers in recent months had been the high price of gasoline — which is more than four dollars a gallon in some areas.

“These spikes in gas prices are often temporary, and while there are no quick fixes to the problem, there are a few steps we should take that make good sense,” Obama said.

The president vowed to increase safe and responsible oil production from US resources, at the same time as enhancing safety and environmental standards.

“To do this, I am directing the Department of Interior to conduct annual lease sales in Alaska’s National Petroleum Reserve, while respecting sensitive areas,” Obama said.

The call for new drilling is part of “Operation: How many times can we get Big Oil to invest billions on research and permits before yanking the rug out from under them over undeclared greenhouse gas emissions?”

States should be permitted to take advantage of their own minerals. The EPA and the feds should have no say anymore. Maybe each state should give out their own permits and drill, refine and sell fuel in their own states. The gov should not be locking up the states resources and make them beg for permits. Sue the EPA, it is out of line. We’re getting hit by 2 sticks. If bho can’t stick it to us directly, he can lie to our faces to improve poll numbers and then use one of his thug agencies to enforce the policy he wants anyway. This is not democracy.

I’m waiting for just ONE moderator to ask a regressive senator or congresscritter WHY we are giving help to Brazil for oil drilling but not allowing it here, and WHY we are giving help to Mexico and Pakistan for fire fighting, but not to Texas. No one is asking that question and I’d really like to hear the answer. Why is this being ignored by the media, including FOX??? Since when do we help other countries at the expense of our own? I guess, since Obama has made it clear that over 1/2 of this country is considered his “enemy”. Spit.

That is great…but who will actually enforce it? They haven’t so far. The abuse of power in this administration is unbelievable. They ignore judicial injuctions and mandates and just go merrily on their way. If they are responding to this court order by saying they will allow licenses…that only means they are stalling some more…as others here have said. There will not be any drilling while Obama is POTUS. NONE. Count on it.

Yup…just like the other “accident”, something will happen. They can’t have their radical agenda upset by actually allowing drilling. Has anyone proven that the first “accident” was really an “accident”? I didn’t think so. This has Soros/marxist mafia thug written all over it.

    Check this out:

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration is proposing to open vast expanses of water along the Atlantic coastline, the eastern Gulf of Mexico and the north coast of Alaska to oil and natural gas drilling, much of it for the first time, officials said Tuesday.

The proposal — a compromise that will please oil companies and domestic drilling advocates but anger some residents of affected states and many environmental organizations — would end a longstanding moratorium on oil exploration along the East Coast from the northern tip of Delaware to the central coast of Florida, covering 167 million acres of ocean.

Under the plan, the coastline from New Jersey northward would remain closed to all oil and gas activity. So would the Pacific Coast, from Mexico to the Canadian border.

The environmentally sensitive Bristol Bay in southwestern Alaska would be protected and no drilling would be allowed under the plan, officials said. But large tracts in the Chukchi Sea and Beaufort Sea in the Arctic Ocean north of Alaska — nearly 130 million acres — would be eligible for exploration and drilling after extensive studies.

Of course this was from march 31, 2010…as Drudge has pointed out, the latest statement from Obama is just take two of the ongoing Kabuki Theater.

Rambler is correct. There’s a big difference between allowing the leases and the EPA approving them. What’s more, the “extensive studies” that have to be conducted will also be a longterm roadblock.

The President has advisors who know about all the positive and negative aspects of what his administration is doing, even if he does not. None of this is by accident.

If you don’t give Obama credit for doing exactly what he has said he would do all along, you are terribly naive.

Fuel prices (and therefore prices on nearly everything) will go up.

Wealth will be redistributed (to assure his re-election).

We will become a green world, less dependent on oil and more dependent on alternative fuels(regardless of the cost).

American superiority will rank (down there) with everyone else’s.

We won! Elections have consequences. (Just wait until 2012 and beyond!)
