Last week, George Will said that if a Republican wins the presidential election next November, it will be either Tim Pawlenty or Mitch Daniels.

Will’s prediction on the GOP side has already narrowed by half:

Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels said early Sunday that he won’t run for president because of family considerations, narrowing the field in the race for the GOP nomination.

“In the end, I was able to resolve every competing consideration but one,” Daniels said, disclosing his decision in an e-mail to supporters. “The interests and wishes of my family, is the most important consideration of all. If I have disappointed you, I will always be sorry.”

Reactions to Daniels’ announcement varied. Newt Gingrich responded by saying Pawlenty would have been a formidable opponent, Paul Ryan said he was disappointed to hear the news, and President Obama yelled “FORE!”

Tim Pawlenty is expected to announce his entry into the race tomorrow. Look for Pawlenty to drop the “Car in every garage and a campaign worker forcing his way into every home” slogan before heavy campaigning gets under way in Iowa. (Update: Pawlenty is now officially in)

In other weekend presidential race news, Herman Cain announced yesterday that he’s running. Charles Krauthammer said that Cain’s campaign is for “entertainment purposes only,” but if a true conservative doesn’t jump in and soon (a “right wing social engineer” as Newt might put it), I think Cain could surprise some people in the primaries.

Here’s Cain’s announcement yesterday. This guy gets me fired up:

Meanwhile, there’s a rumor going around that Sarah Palin bought a house in Scottsdale, Arizona. Joe McGinniss is thrilled because his doctor recommended dry air.

That’s as good an excuse as any to once again once again post my favorite recycled bumper sticker:
