Beltway Newt: No, really, I’m you!

By Michelle Malkin  •  May 23, 2011 12:11 PM

Ow. Ow. Doubled over from laughing so hard. Need a tissue to wipe away the tears. Hoo-boy.

Via Michael O’Brien at The Hill:

Gingrich: ‘I’m not a Washington figure’

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) said he doesn’t view himself as a “Washington figure,” positioning himself as an anti-D.C. candidate in his campaign for president.

Gingrich railed against the Washington establishment in a breakfast Monday hosted by the Christian Science Monitor, claiming the mantle of the “change” candidate in the field of GOP presidential aspirants.

“I’m not a Washington figure, despite the years I’ve been here,” Gingrich said. “I’m essentially an American whose ties are across the country and is interested in how you change Washington, not how you make Washington happy.”

Here’s anti-establishment, not-a-Washington-figure Gingrich sidling up to Obama Education Secretary Arne Duncan and Al Sharpton, because nothing says “Change!” like teaming up with an unrepentant race hustler and an administration in the pocket of the nation’s obstructionist teachers’ unions:

Here he is cheesing it up with old friend Arianna Huffington earlier this year, because nothing says “Anti-establishment!” like relaxing with an ex-conservative-turned-crusading progressive mogul on the Amalfi coast:

And, of course, there’s the photo at the top of this page — because nothing says Washington outsider like a Couch Caress with Nancy “Heartland” Pelosi.

From my RNC rejected solicitation of the day files, grass-roots conservatives haven’t forgotten Newt’s affair with Dede Scozzafava. This is the baggage he can’t shake:

From reader Barnaby, who sent back his crossed-out Republican solicitation forms with a “NO RINOS” sticky note for Newt Gingrich:

Newt seems to have lost his way badly over the years in Washington. He claims to be a Conservative but comes down on the Liberal side of way too many issues. The kindest explanation I can think of is that he’s been a politician for so long, he can no longer sees issues clearly. Like far too many politicians, he seems to be more interested in advancing his own causes than in fighting for America’s.

When you forget what you went to Washington for, it’s time to hang it up and go back to your normal career. Wait, today politics _is_ most politicians’ career? Hmm, I think I may have found the problem…

I wouldn’t rule out the Newt. He is a spinmeister of the first degree from his years in politician school. He has been working Iowa like a native son. He knows the nomination is in those early states because people will jump on the bandwagon of the winner.

He has the time to deny he said what he believes said.

Open primaries allow him a way to get his liberal supporters out to boost his numbers.

I would not count him out yet.

She was never really conservative. She faked it while married to the empty suit named Huffington. She took his name and money after he lost his Senate bid and started her new gig as progressive gadfly.

It’s not that many of the “front line GOP candidates” lack brains or good ideas, including Newt. What they lack is cajones. If Newt had any, conservatives would have kept the gubmint shut in 95 until hell froze over, and the last 15 years would have been completely different. Mitt, Newt, Tim, why is it that only the GOP women have enough testosterone to tell a moron to P**s Off? McCain didn’t want to offend anyone by calling Obama an empty suit communist, and neither do any of these grand poobahs of the blue blood country club republicans. “I say Lovey, isn’t that Obama chap’s smile Fahbulous”.

I think that Newt has been positioning himself to beat Obama. Although, conservative purists would like Reagan to be reincarnated (myself included), I’m not sure that a staunch conservative can beat Obama. I believe that Newt can beat Obama be appealing to independents and he probably can’t do that by coming across as to far right. Also, he is far smarter and will destroy Obama in a fair debate.

I’d rather Herman Cain, but I’d settle for Newt over four more years of the socialist in chief.
