DNC Chair: If it Were Up to the GOPers, We’d All Be Driving Foreign Cars (Guess What She Drives)

By Doug Powers  •  May 26, 2011 09:53 PM

**Written by Doug Powers

How economically un-American and devious is the Republican field of presidential candidates? They’ve already managed to control the automobile purchasing habits of Congresswoman and DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz:

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), the chairwoman of the DNC, ripped into Republican presidential contenders who opposed President Obama’s 2009 bailouts for General Motors and Chrysler.

“If it were up to the candidates for president on the Republican side, we would be driving foreign cars; they would have let the auto industry in America go down the tubes,” she said at a breakfast for reporters organized by The Christian Science Monitor.

But according to Florida motor vehicle records, the Wasserman Schultz household owns a 2010 Infiniti FX35, a Japanese car whose parent company is Nissan, another Japanese company…

Don’t let this happen to you. Vote Democrat in 2012 so the Republicans can’t force you buy a foreign car. They’ve already gotten to the DNC Chair, but it’s not too late for the rest of America.

They are too distracted, too self focused, and, thanks to public schools, too stupid to care if there is any truth beyond the statement made.

It’s something that has already been happening for years. Our technology used to lead the world. Now it lags behind more and more because “jobs” are one of the biggest platforms that politicians run on, and they can’t afford to let a foreign company wipe out an entire industry if it means they won’t get re-elected.

Why do the Dems keep repeating this story, that Obama’s bailout in ’09 saved the US auto industry, and that Republicans would have let it all fail? That just isn’t history as I remember it. Bush (Paulson) was guilty of making the ~$40B loan bailout available. The Rs at the time said this wouldn’t work, and GM/Chrysler should go through a structured bankruptcy. Dems kept saying a bankruptcy would end the industry as no one would buy cars from a company in bankruptcy. As usual, the Dems were wrong, as was Bush. The bailouts were a MASSIVE failure and Obama ended up leading them through a very union-friendly bankruptcy. I guess you could say he was following the Romney/Pawlenty plan! Of course screwing bondholders for $40B and taxpayers for another $45B tax writeoff has made GM look profitable. But to say Obama saved the industry with his bailout is beyond spin! It’s wrong.

    Exactly!
Bankruptcy would have allowed the companies to get out from under the crushing contracts with the UAW. There’s something seriously wrong when a company has to pay thousands of people to NOT work. The union was committing murder-suicide on the industry. They need new reasonable contracts.

Debbie Wasserman-Schultz reminds me of Owen’s wife in the movie “Trains, Planes and Automobiles.” Del and Neal offer to put a heavy trunk in the back of a pickup truck, but Owen yells for his wife to do it: “She don’t mind. She’s short and skinny, but she’s strong. Her first baby come out sideways. She didn’t scream or nothing.”

This is one scary lady. She’ll always look for a fight, so she should “step in it” quite often.

So a lot of liberals out there are defending her stance and choice of vehicle as not being hypocritical. They talk about how a lot of foreign cars are actually designed and assembled in the US, along with a lot of the parts.

If this is true (and it is), then why do we need to save GM to save jobs?

I haven’t seen one of the libs here on MM defend this because its really indefensible. I also haven’t seen the same ones that claim we should shout down conservative hypocrisy every chance we get coming in here and shouting this down.

When it comes to “Schultz”, both Ed and Debbie-W are noxious fools, but at least Ed knows she’s a hapless “joke”:

And Reintz Priebus (???) is a gift to the dems! I’m sorry, but who gives a name like that to their kid? Not cool. What has Reintz done lately? I have forgotten what the guy looks like. I feel like he took the job, put his feet up on the desk and lit a cigarette as he pulled out a People Magazine to read. Where the h is he?

I bought a “foreign” vehicle years ago. It was made in the USA and contained mostly USA-made parts. I recall a recent article about a vehicle made by GM which consisted of mostly foreign-made parts. I buy vehicles based on quality and safety. I don’t plan to buy any future vehicles from those who recieved bailouts. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz needs to mind her own business.

Ah – the same look was given a year or so ago by his wife in the direction of France’s First Lady.

If that’s her take then she will be wrong again.

All vehicles are built at Nissan Motor Company’s plant in Tochigi, Japan.

I have the unfortunate experience of living in a District close to hers, and she has her office in our City Hall complex. can’t wait til they start asking her about her sister who was indicted for taking kickbacks while she was a County Commissioner.

Also her non-response to Obama’s Israel soultion was specifically mentioned in an op-ed in yesterday’s paper. This will not be forgotten by her Jewish constituency which makes up about 50% of her voting base in this district.

She has attached her wagon to a falling star…

    Just sayin’ is all…

I too would like to buy American if that helped our country but I can not buy from the bailout companies that are being guided by our fearless leader. After giving the unions ownership and screwing the bond holders let them suffer, if only there was a ford car that I truly liked would I buy an american car. I prefer to buy cars that are built in the US that at least give some money to some non-union american workers, Honda and Acura specificly. 75% of my cars were made in america unlike my 2002 chevy siverado that was made in ontario canada. And just a point to those making fun/remorse at the black box issue. Since the late 1990′s all cars have black boxes in them, it’s just up to the government when the next step will be taken to data mine them for more of our personal information. :-(
