DNC Chair: Republicans Want to Make it a Crime to Be An ‘Undocumented Immigrant’

By Doug Powers  •  May 29, 2011 10:30 AM

**Written by Doug Powers

As far as sheer entertainment value, I was a fan of Howard Dean as Chairman of the DNC, but I think Debbie Wasserman Schultz may soon surpass him, if she hasn’t already.

For the purpose of being factually correct, substitute “illegal aliens” where Wasserman Schultz says “undocumented immigrants” (transcribed from the video below):

I think the president was clearly articulating that his position — the Democrats position — is that we need comprehensive immigration reform. We have 12 million undocumented immigrants in this country that are part of the backbone of our economy. And that is not only a reality but a necessity. And that it would be harmful if — the Republican solution that I’ve seen in the last three years is that we should just pack them all up and ship them back to their own countries, and that in fact it should be a crime and we should arrest them all. I mean that was the legislation that Jim Sensenbrenner advanced a couple of years ago.

She does know that it is a crime to be an illegal alien, right? Normally something that has the word “illegal” right there in its name is a big clue that it might not be legal. What’s next? Will mean old Republicans want to make car theft (undocumented vehicle procurement) or shoplifting (uncompensated one-way commerce) crimes too?

Here’s the video:

See and hear some of Debbie’s greatest hits here.

There seems to be an inordinately high number of people with the name Schultz saying dumb things these days.

Using a stolen or fake social security number is not an infraction. It’s a felony. Illegal aliens belong in federal prison.

An update to this story reveals that this Colorado state Senator was cited for three misdemeanors by the State cops in Texas.

If there is anyone out there unaware of just how out-of-touch the retro-liberal Democrats are, Mrs. Schultz will underscore that fact. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz has a record that stands out as one of the most radical members of her party. That makes her the woman most appropriate to lead this radicalized Democrat Party. …”

The working conditions you mention are the reasons for child labor laws and the birth of unions (which have long since passed their ‘sell by’ date).

If we need laborers, employers should pay the going rate. If the supply is scarce, pay more. If plentiful, pay less.If skilled workers are in need, the answer is not to import foreigners, but to train natives. If our school system wasn’t FUBAR, we’d have a native supply of skilled workers.

A good reason to repeal minimum wage laws. Also reason to bust NEA and teacher’s unions…. the public isn’t getting what it’s paying for. I don’t know about your state (I think it works the same in all states) by my state pays for public schooling through property taxes and I don’t have kids. Never have, never will…

New DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Shultz Makes Inauspicious Debut

    COMMENTARY:

Curiously, Wasserman Shultz is most excited about the idea that voters will be reminded in the upcoming election that Obama signed women pay equity legislation, named two women to the Supreme Court and established the White House Council on Women and Girls. The outreach to women during the campaign “will be unprecedented,” Wasserman Shultz said.

The saddest part is that Wasserman Shultz doesn’t seem to believe that women are very smart. As long as they remind women that Obama has engaged in efforts designed to appease women’s advocacy groups, the chair doesn’t think that such gender-neutral worries as losing a house to foreclosure and being unable to afford a tank of gas are of any concern to a woman.

To hear Wasserman Shultz speak, one would think such things as government deficits, disturbing foreign policy maneuvers and staggering unemployment numbers are things only men would think are important matters for consideration during an election cycle. As a woman, I would like to ask Wasserman Shultz, what good is pay equity legislation for women if they can’t find a job? No; what “will be unprecedented” will be watching Wasserman Shultz promoting her myopic, shallow and utterly insulting perception of her own gender.

In the meantime, the degree of irritation inspired by this brittle little stick currently residing in Debbie’s Girl Power craw was revealed in her incoherent ramble regarding the “No Tax Payer Funding for Abortion Act” (H.R. 3).

I didn’t hear or read about her excuse of kids in the back seat raising hell. There are two remedies in my mind for that problem.

!. Pull off the road, yank ‘em out of the car, blister their butts with a mesquite tree switch, them put them back in the car.

    2. Velcro them to the back seat and BUCKLE THE DAMN SEAT BELT!

1 and 2 can be used in conjunction with each other.

Doug Powers it is not a crime to be in the United States without a visa or green card. At worst it is a civil infraction. You really are ignorant. Immigrants are good for the American economy

So, according to that logic, since ‘immigrants are good [economically]‘ we can extend or apply that reasoning..

We take in more immigrants (legal and illegal) than any other country in the world (noting that 2 nations have populations that are, respectively, 3.5x and nearly 5x ours..), and, yet, our economy is lagging (arguably) behind the recently growing ones. If immigrants are so good for us, and we take in SO very many, why isn’t our economy the ‘roaring tiger’ of the
world? Further, a recent article published by CIS showed that about 55% of all immigrant families receive some sort of welfare/basic assistance (via the taxpayer).

Similarly, recently Mayor Bloomberg of NYC said something to the effect (not exact, and from memory..), ‘give us immigrants and we can send them to Detriot to revitalize the economy’. And what did Mayor Dave Bing have to say? His response was, again paraphrased from memory: ‘No. Our problem is not shortage of people nor labor — it is a shortage of jobs’.
We can’t take care of the world and we need to start focusing upon dealing with our own first.

Further, back to the question or detail regarding ‘legality’, what you are saying would only be true in the extremely rare subgroup of illegal aliens that happened to sneak across the border once, not accept employment of any type, and be able to support themselves from day one (eg. be independently wealthy). Now how many people do those conditions describe?
Sure, there probably are a few, but overall? Not.Very.Many. The second an illegal alien works in the US, they break two significant laws and often times more (never mind the loss to the US Treasury in unrecovered income taxes, the cost imposed upon local LE and individuals in terms of stolen ID/ID theft, etc).

The old unquestioned axiom that ‘immigration is good’ for the US no longer applies. It may have been true in the flowering of the industrial development of the US in the turn of the last century, but now is a different time with different needs and WE HAVE NO SHORTAGE OF PEOPLE OR LABOR.

    -Independent in detail and spirit.

I get that in the 80′s, illegal aliens probably were a boon to the economy. Times have changed, the high number of illegals is costing the taxpayer to the point that the deck you got built for half the price now comes with lots of extra taxes you pay for the worker’s kid’s welfare, the family’s medical expenses, section 8 housing, education, prison costs for the 7 times your worker got busted for a DUI, etc. Cheap labor is no longer cheap and the social security funds the govt. was celebrating from a worker with a taxpayer ID or fake SSN is bunk now, SS is still going bankrupt.

The border is no joke anymore. The world is very dangerous today. Terrorist groups are building tunnels for the Mexican drug cartels and paying them upwards of 30,000 dollars to bring in goods and people. Look up the Tijuana tunnels, American task forces are finding them with irrigation systems, electricity hook ups, rail systems, ventilation. All the amenities you would find in tunnels going to the Gaza strip. One Pakistani nuke, through the tunnel then on to a train for detonation at Al Queda’s choice? Retaliation for Bin Laden? But hey, I got my house painted for 500 bucks, what a blessing.

Links? Out here on the ground in the real world, Scrappy. Direct observation.

I live in a mostly hispanic city. the legal immigrants from Mexico I’ve known here over the last 30 years (there have been many) virtually all have relatives and friends here illegally.

I used to say I favored a high level of immigration, and that it was the illegal immigration that I objected to, but I have come to realize they are two sides of the same coin.

We’ve had too much immigration. It has become badly corrosive. We need to shut it down for a while so we can adapt and adapt to the recent immigrants we already have.

I agree with stopping all immigration for a while, but….

    1. It will never happen.
    2. Even if Mexican immigration were to cease completely, Mexicans will still become the majority of the USA because they breed faster than any other group

Only if they don’t interbreed with the still much, much larger native population.

There is still substantial mixing going on now. One of the many dangers we are creating by continuing the massive immigration is we’ll reach a point where that will no longer be true because the invading culture will realize conquest really is within its grasp.

At that point the lines get drawn. We are bordering on that now, with gang wars in L.A. between hispanic and black gangs in neighborhoods where the anglos have already all been run out.

Sadly, most people are so fat and happy they don’t realize apocalyptic warnings really could be true until the apocalypse is actually upon them.

And by then it is too late.

It isn’t out of stupidity that this Debbie Wasserman Schultz person tries to make a distinction in this case, it is out of political necessity and desperation that she does it. And, she knows that it works to use this sort of semantics in our culture. We can make hay out of it all we want, and poke fun, but the fact of the matter is that they have the sympathetic ear of the MSM, and also that of much of the ignorant public.

I’m pretty sure that she knows precisely what she’s doing here, and such talk won’t harm the Dems in the least. She does know that it is a crime to be an illegal alien, right? Normally something that has the word “illegal” right there in its name is a big clue that it might not be legal.

I think we need to be more forceful in our offerings here.

It is in fact a crime to be in the United States illegally. However, operating a motor vehicle at excessive speeds is also illegal, but is not a crime. There are more than enough other violations of law that are not criminal to justify the need to specify the criminality of these acts.

We must not stop and assume that people will get the part about this being criminal activity on the sole basis that is illegal. We must show the facts more clearly. Things cannot be demonstrated as criminal on the sole basis of illegality; they must be DEMONSTRATED as criminal (in the way I just did, for example).

Yes. These liberals are coddling actual criminals. We must drive home the point that it is a criminal offense (as opposed, say, to the level of a parking ticket).

Lots of illegal stuff is not criminal. We have to drive home the fact that this stuff is.
