GOP blocks Obama land grab

Yes, dear readers, corruptocrat Interior Secretary Ken Salazar can be stopped.

Since day one of the Obama administration, I’ve chronicled Loathsome Cowboy Ken Salazar’s War on the West, War on Jobs, and War on Science/Rule of Law. The last straw was his attempted Wild Lands grab. GOP leaders rose up with farmers, ranchers, and Western governors to stop the scheme in its tracks. Utah and Alaska have filed suit. Wyoming joined the litigation this week.

And now, Salazar has officially announced the backpedal:

Understanding how wilderness is designated and how wilderness-quality lands are managed in the U.S. just got murkier. On Wednesday, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar issued a memo that promised to abide by a congressional mandate that essentially made it impossible to identify wild public lands that merit protection.

Salazar’s memo noted there was broad interest in managing public lands in a “sensible manner” and promised to work collaboratively with members of Congress. He directed Interior officials to draft a report on how best to manage wilderness-quality lands. But the days of holding land in a kind of hands-off limbo while officials decide whether it needs more protection effectively are coming to a halt, again:

“On December 22, 2010, I issued Secretarial Order 3310 to address the BLM’s management of wilderness resources on lands under its jurisdiction. Under Secretarial Order 3310, I ordered the BLM to use the public resource management planning process to designate certain lands with wilderness characteristics as “Wild Lands.”

On April 14, 20II, the United States Congress passed the Department of Defense and Full-Year Continuing Appropriations Act, 2011 (Pub. L. 112-10)(2011 CR), which includes a provision (Section 1769) that prohibits the use of appropriated funds to implement, administer, or enforce Secretarial Order 3310 in Fiscal Year 2011.

I am confirming today that, pursuant to the 2011 CR, the BLM will not designate any lands as ‘Wild Lands.’ “

GOP Rep. Doc Hastings of the House Natural Resources Committee said yesterday that he will make sure the administration doesn’t get away with any underhanded moves:

“It’s welcome news that the Interior Department will follow the law. After this positive initial step of halting the ‘Wild Lands’ order, we’ll be taking a close look at how the Administration proceeds. Congressional oversight has served a vital role in this entire process and the Committee’s active oversight on this matter will continue. Attempts to prohibit forms of public access, block job-creating activities and manage land as wilderness, even though they haven’t been designated as such by Congress, will be met with a strong reaction by this Committee. It’s important that BLM maintains this new promise of an open process, through conversations with interested parties, states, and Congress.”

Where there’s a will against Team Obama’s culture of contempt and corruption, there’s a way.

Fight on.

I observed this Professional Dullard (Salazar) on C-Span not longer ago.

Beyond being a sad sack of bureaucratic potatoes (ie, one who droned incessantly in the vague, amorphous vernacular of The Bureaucrat), one could quickly tell he is a hapless, excuse-making functionary, trolling ever more for pretexts to “control” more of our land.

Specifically (over the past decade or so), I have observed government’s relentless encroachment into what are ostensibly “public” lands.

In particular: The Angeles National Forest, just north of Los Angeles. That area used to be one of general access for public enjoyment (with the obvious caveat that everyone needs to treat the land with respect).

But now, the volume of locked gates everywhere and patroling Forest Service goons galore has grown exponentially.

Thus, the only entity disrespecting the land is the very steward who professes to “protect it”, using that “mandate” as a perverse basis to shut it down for everyone (except themselves and their enviro-zealot buddies, of course).

And to top it all off, when one considers the outrageous government incompetence that permitted a huge chunk of that forest to burn to a crisp two years ago (“The Station Fire”), the level of boiling blood reaches a crescendo.

That’s my position. Other than military installations and offices, it all belongs to the state it is located in. I’m certain that with money paid to the feds from mineral leasing, Wyoming could maintain the public land much more efficient than the feds and have plenty left over. Not that the state bureaucrats are much more efficient than federal bureaucrats, it’s just easier to get some action by the people when needed.

This was a serious Pot meet Kettle moment as this lady is so unqualified to do her job that I spend about half my day correcting mistakes she makes (I have worked here for 2 years and she for 8 years). These are QA mistakes that are from just being plain lazy.

It should be said that there are alot of very nice, very hard working, very intelligent people who are committed to taking care of the land, and its ecosystems (USFS, BLM, ODF (oregon dept of forestry)). It’s the same appreciation and love of the outdoors that draws them to work in that field. And it’s not always the public lands that they are tasked with protecting.

I lost several friends in the Storm King Mountain fire who were called in there because of the danger to nearby private property.

Locally, following the B&B complex fire that burned almost a 100,000 acres President Bush shifted policy to thin trees and undergrowth. While that plan drew alot of criticism across the country it was a smart call, that’s decreased exponentially the risk of another catastrophic burn here.

Good job to the GOP for standing up and saying No to Salazar. Stewardship is necessary for preserving the nations lands that are already designated as public.

I’m personally for increased efficiency and less waste in our existing agencies.

Sadly, thats too often the case that local governments DO use eminent domain to clear the path for revenue enhancing private developers, generally coercing existing property owners to sell their lands to the developers or because of the increases in property values the skyrocketing propety taxes forces the sale.

Don’t mind ILMC. He’s most likely a liberal plant who frequents Kos or Move-On who thinks he’s being covert and his job is change our minds.

Regarding the QE, that’s supposed to end. Once the federal government stops printing money, the inflation rate will climb. I suspect the fed will increase interest rates to compensate.

Either way, it’s a bad deal. We are definately heading into a double-dip recession, but I’ve know that for months now. Housing prices are falling and the price of corn is up 75%, which is nuts.

We could be spending up towards a 1/3 of our income on grocerys alone in the next few years.

Exaclty, though from the looks of it the market sure thinks that QE3 is coming down the pipeline. With Obama in charge I could see where he would be thinking that without the debt ceiling being raised so he can borrow more money (putting us further into debt) the only option is to print even more money (cause we all know he has no intentions of cutting spending). And like you said, once the fed stops printing money inflation will go through the roof (alond with interest rates).

All I can say is thank God I diversified into Gold about 15 years ago.

    Exactly.

Considering the federal government’s history of mostly mismanagement, it’s not, nor ever will be, in the best position, to manage anything beyond its strict constitutional limits (especially now) to which it hasn’t adhered for a long time.

My grandson (2) wants to help work on the car, so I gave him some plastic wrenches and screwdrivers etc. He’s ecstatic and can’t hurt anything or himself. That’s what we need do with Washingtoon – give them, like, Monopoly money and tell them they are really important.

Here’s one that cooked my noodle…The feds subsidize the Amtrak Sunset Limited from New Orleans to LA to the tune of $462/passenger. For that change, you could fly NO to LA and back. Twice. In 1/3 the time. So we borrow money from China so people can ride a train for two days instead of flying? D’OH!

They are fast turning our real money into less than Monopoly money. And we need to do the reverse and drive it into the space between their ears that, no, they are really not important, and in fact quite insignificant and easily replaceable.
