Dandy: White House Establishes ‘Rural Council’
**Written by Doug Powers
Given this administration’s continuing downward spiral on the economy, if they were sincerely trying to help, the first thing they’d do would be to stop trying to help. But the kinds of “strategies” that have turned out to be little more than throwing wildly expensive anvils to a drowning jobs market are instead being expanded deeper into the heartland.
From the White House website:
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The White House today announced the establishment of the first White House Rural Council. While rural communities face challenges, they also present economic potential. To address these challenges, build on the Administration’s rural economic strategy, and improve the implementation of that strategy, the President signed an Executive Order establishing the White House Rural Council.
“Strong rural communities are key to a stronger America,” said President Barack Obama. “That’s why I’ve established the White House Rural Council to make sure we’re working across government to strengthen rural communities and promote economic growth.”
Hang in there, fellow bitter clingers — Federal reinforcements to help you become milder and less clingy are on the way.

We in the Missouri River valley need people willing to fill sand bags, not a rural council. Our historic flood is man made and may last into fall.
Maybe Obama can establish a Corps of Engineers Council to determine if this could have been avoided or minimized.
I live in a relatively small town in Idaho and I’m pretty sure that the government big butts won’t get off their duff to do the job, instead they will hire within the community to do the dirty work for them. As I walk past a democrat support booth at the farmers market I can’t help but feel this all has been under progress for awhile.
Most of our farm land has been sold to build subdivisions or zoned for commercial use, I suppose this is what they mean by progress. My family and I are looking to move, the school system has gone downhill the crime rate is up, there will be nothing left of this town and it’s history.
This is just a preemptive strike against Galt’s Gulch.
When said help is offered, it must be an inverted pyramid: first local government, then county government, then State government, and finally, dead last when all other options are exhausted, federal government. The way it is now, the feds are the first to step in.

It’s another pie-in-the-sky piece of crap from the president. Obama thinks “Now I have given you this wonderful idea that will transform rural America. . .go forth and use my wisdom to transform Rural America into a paradise for which I will take all of the credit”.
In reality, this will be entirely forgotten in short order, just another bunch of words that mean nothing. It is what we called in the military a “collateral duty”. Collateral duties were largely unfunded responsibilitites that were thought up and heaped onto military personnel in addition to their primary jobs. As I recall, I had about a hundred or so of them.
