Perhaps the prospect of endless Gloria Allred/Weiner girl press conference parades finally sealed the deal.

That, or politically connected wife Huma Abedin finagled a job for him from their last, few Democrat allies in NY.

Whatever the case, the NYTimes is tweeting this morning:

“Representative Anthony D. Weiner Tells Friends He Is Stepping Down.”

Representative Anthony D. Weiner has told friends that he plans to resign his seat after coming under growing pressure from his Democratic colleagues to leave the House in the wake of revelations of his lewd online exchanges with women, said a person told of Mr. Weiner’s plans.

The news comes as Democratic leaders prepared to hold a meeting on Thursday to discuss whether to strip the 46-year-old Congressman of his committee assignments, a blow which would severely damage his effectiveness.

Mr. Weiner, a Democrat, came to the conclusion that he could no longer serve after having long discussions with his wife, Huma Abedin, when she returned home on Tuesday after traveling abroad with her boss, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Place your bets on how Ick-arus will be resurrected politically — Cable TV show? Social media consultant? Motivational speaker? Think Progress senior fellow? Clinton Foundation program officer?

Another idea: Contemplate a move to Washington state and run for Congress there, a la Dennis Kucinich. We know Weiner has (or had) at least one doting young Seattle enthusiast there…

Update: WSJ reports that an announcement is planned later today in NY.

Update: Pelosi expected to comment publicly at 10:45 ET. Awaiting priceless visage…

…or not. Washington Times’s Emily Miller reports from Pelosi presser that she will not make any comment until “decision or announcement” by Weiner is issued.

Update: Weiner reads brief, 5-minute statement. No questions. But plenty of rowdy, randy heckling from crowd.

“Today I’m announcing my resignation from Congress.” Crowd members cheer. “Yeah! Goodbye pervert!”

Total circus. Hecklers unabated. Weiner, no kidding, paying tribute to his parents and “the values they instilled in” him.

Yowch. Throwing mom and dad under the bus?

Surprised no one heckled “Jackass!”
