David Axelrod Assures Anxious Nation That It’s Still Cool To Be An Obama Supporter

David Axelrod, senior advisor to the president and Richie Cunningham to Obama’s “The Fonz” back in 2008, is charged with trying to figure out why the jukebox no longer starts playing when his boss snaps his fingers.

Because of this, Axelrod’s making the rounds in an attempt to keep Hope & Change™ from becoming the political equivalent of shorts with dress socks and sandals or wearing white in the unemployment line after Labor Day.

Here’s Axelrod on if it’s still cool to be an Obama supporter:

“I find it as cool to be an Obama supporter. Having sat with him for two years is the White House and watched him — watching him work through some very difficult things with a lot of intelligence and grace, equilibrium. I, I have great admiration for him,” Obama’s chief campaign strategist told CNN.

“The people who were participating in the campaign in 2008 weren’t involved in some sort of cult of personality. It wasn’t just about Barack Obama, it was the country and they cared deeply about this country…”

Caring deeply about the country is why they voted for the guy who said he would fundamentally transform America? That kind of reasoning couldn’t get any more cool if you put a U2 t-shirt on it.

So, heading into 2012, Axelrod’s first challenge is to figure out a way to make defending the indefensible hip in order to win back some of those ex girlfriends.

Update: Axelrod’s efforts are already bearing fruit.
