Harry Reid Favors Huntsman Over Romney

File this one under “Romney finally catches a break on the praise from liberals” — not that it seems to bother him a whole lot.

First Read:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, reviled by conservatives for ushering Democratic legislation through Congress during Obama’s first two years in office, told reporters Tuesday that he’d pick Huntsman over GOP rival and fellow Mormon Mitt Romney.

“If I had a choice, I would favor Huntsman over Romney,” said Reid, who like Romney and Huntsman belongs to the Church of Latter-Day Saints.

The Senate leader proceeded to take a broad swipe at the former Massachusetts governor, whom he described as a “a man who doesn’t know who he is.”

At least that explains the “Cowboy Poets for Huntsman” bumper sticker I saw on the highway earlier.

Speaking of Jon “No ‘H’” Huntsman’s campaign, he’ll be employing a tried and true method of defeating Obama in an election: By pledging to uphold the John McCain Campaign Trail Code of Civility.

He’s David Axelrod and he approves this message.

@mondamay – That is good information, and I appreciate it. Thanks!

@everyone – If we think it’s unacceptable for the most vulnerable Americans–like kids and babies, and the severely disabled, for instance–to not have health care, then what is the solution?

Since you are of the volunteering type, and support socialized medicine, I strongly urge you to find a VA hospital in your area and volunteer for 6 months.
If that doesn’t cure you of wanting socialized medicine, there is no hope for you.

If the VA hospitals are adequately funded (I honestly have no idea), and their problems stem directly from the fact that they are government-run, what do you think is a better alternative for veterans?

They are adequately funded, but there is so much waste in what they do.

The solution? Give every veteran that would seek health care at the VA a medical ID card, to be used anywhere the veteran chooses. The free market would provide much better care than a massive, bloated bureaucracy ever could.

Look, I know government-run programs are inefficient. Any large organization creates waste.

I just don’t know what the alternatives are to government health care, besides simply leaving the poorest sick people to their fate, which is obviously unacceptable.

If a Republican candidate proposes a different plan, instead of just opposing Obama’s, he or she will get my attention.

That seems like a great idea. The taxpayers are still paying for the medical bills, right? But the veteran can do what s/he wants? I like it.

The solution is to help those you personally know who are in such need, give to charity, and promote limited government that allows our society to become as prosperous as possible so we have plenty of wealth to give to charities.

Perhaps most important of all, teach our children to be moral. Get rid of teachers who think teaching kids to be obedient and ‘nice’ has anything at all to do with teaching them to be moral.

Teach them about Natural Law. Teach them about God. Teach them how to be responsible for themselves and to want to help others down on their luck.

The ‘solution’ is not to create a vast bureaucracy (i.e. corrupt tyranny) to ‘take care of’ everybody.

Yeah, but I think the people who are in most desperate need are not going to be the people who know anyone (like me) who can help them, if you see what I mean.

I might be down with smaller social programs if it came with a HUGE ad campaign to help others in need. It could be a national goal…shifting this role from government to individuals and communities. I think Americans would step up to the challenge. The U.S. already has an amazing track record of giving compared to other countries. We could become even a little better and be an incredible example to the world.

An ad campaign may sound stupid, but they can be very effective. Nancy Reagan’s “Just Say No” had real, measurable impact, for instance. Heck, Special K told everyone to try eating their (in my opinion, terrible-tasting) cereal twice a day to lose weight, and people did it and sales went through the roof.

Also, I think we would need good instructions–from experts with firsthand experience–for churches and local charities on how specifically to connect with and support poor people in medical crises…at the moment, my church knows how to do a lot of things, like feed and clothe the needy and dig wells in Kenya, but we’re not set up to help people with health care. I think there may be a lot of similar churches.

But, what the hell do I know. I appreciate your response!

Stacey…The liberals WANT you to believe there is no healthcare for those folks. But, we have LOTS of programs for the poor, the disabled, even the illegals!! If they go to a hospital, they will be taken care of. And we have medicaid. What makes you think they are not cared for? In the meantime, the liberals want this massive health”care” reform that will give less care to everyone, in the name of helping a few, when those few already have medicaid. This means that the rest of the country that already had decent care, will not longer have that, and that includes the elderly, like ME. AND, obamacare is packed full of rules, regulations, exceptions, and massive spending that no one knew about and are just finding out, piece by piece as people are actually reading the dang bill! Doctors are quitting in droves, and young people are not going into medicine. This bill will create massive shortages of health care providers. THERE IS SO MUCH WRONG WITH THIS BILL…PLEASE PLEASE READ UP ON THIS!

Stacey, you have been misinformed and are somewhat brainwashed. I pray you will wake up. If Obama gets 4 more years, this country will be destroyed. At this stage of the presidential campaign, please don’t say you have made up your mind to vote for Obama! Please, just keep an open mind about this. There is MUCH for you to learn about the common sense solutions offered by the people on the right!

Stacey, what makes you think this isn’t being done now all over the country? If someone isn’t being helped, it is because they haven’t asked for it. If someone goes to an emergency room at the hospital, they can’t be turned away. They WILL be helped. There are agencies everywhere to help the poor and disabled. If these folks don’t reach out, how the heck are we supposed to help them? Do you have an answer to that question? Please enlighten me.
