According to the White House transcript of President Obama’s address to a DNC fundraiser in Washington, DC, the speech contained quite a few laugh lines:

I’ve got a lot of friends in the room here. People who knew me before anybody could pronounce my name. (Laughter.) People who knew me before I had gray hair. (Laughter.)
[...]
We had to save an auto industry. I never expected to be a automobile executive. (Laughter.)

At this point the crowd was really into the comedy. According to the transcript, maybe a little more than the White House would have liked:

Over the last 15 months we’ve created over 2.1 million private sector jobs. (Laughter.)

Related story: President Obama has scheduled a national prime time address tomorrow night. Some are saying the topic is troop withdrawal from Afghanistan, while conflicting reports say the speech will be to introduce the White House’s new presidential speech transcriber (the last guy up and disappeared, go figure).

Update: Yes, I figured somebody would come along and try to ruin the fun by saying the transcript should have said “applause” instead of “laughter.” A little Freudian slip of the keyboard on the part of the transcriber? I don’t know about you, but I’m going to continue laughing anyway.
