Terror in the Beltway update: Would-be Pentagon bomber reportedly linked to military target shootings; Update: New arrests in Seattle…Shhhh, don’t say “Muslim;” Update: Pentagon bomb suspect’s “Allahu Akbar!” tapes

By Michelle Malkin  •  June 22, 2011 05:25 PM

Last fall, I spotlighted several terrifying shooting incidents at D.C.-area Marine buildings and military installations (see here and here). Shots were fired at the Marine Corps Museum in D.C., the Pentagon, a vacant Marine Corps recruiting station in Chantilly, Va, and a Coast Guard recruiting station in Woodbridge, VA.

The shootings remained unsolved…until now, it seems.

NBC-DC reports that the incidents have been tied to Ethiopian-born Marine reservist Yonathan Melaku, who was arrested last week near the Pentagon. InsideNoVa.com has the scoop:

Law enforcement and military sources say forensic evidence links Marine reservist Yonathan Melaku to last fall’s mysterious shootings at military targets around Northern Virginia, including the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle.

Melaku, 22, sparked a security scare Friday after U.S. Park Police saw him in Arlington National Cemetery after dark. Authorities then found his red 2011 Nissan truck parked in a wooded area near the Pentagon, according to an FBI press release.

Police say Melaku’s behavior after he was confronted by police prompted massive road closures during the Friday morning rush hour as officials investigated the contents of his backpack for what they initially feared might be bomb-making materials. They found no explosives. His Alexandria home also was searched.

Forensic evidence found during the investigation links Melaku to five shootings at military targets last year, sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity told www.insidenova.com.

I’ll ask again: When jihad-bent American Muslims target American soldiers on American soil, why does America yawn?

Update 6/23 New arrests…breaking in Seattle…AP and Fox reporting this afternoon that two have been taken into custody in plot on Seattle military installations…

More as details come in.

Update Shhhh, don’t say Muslim

The Justice Department says two men have been arrested in a plot to attack a military recruiting station in Seattle with machine guns and grenades.

Seattle resident Abu Khalid Abdul-Latif, also known as Joseph Anthony Davis, of Seattle, and Walli Mujahidh, also known as Frederick Domingue Jr. of Los Angeles were arrested Wednesday night.

They were scheduled to make initial court appearances Thursday on terrorism and firearms charges.

Investigators say the two men planned to attack a station in Seattle where military enlistees are processed. The building, on East Marginal Way, also houses a daycare.

They could have been named “Jihad al-Jihadi” and the Left media would still whitewash their root cause out of the story…

Fun fact: There was a homegrown jihadi named Abujihaad. Remember?

Update 6/23 Back to the Pentagon bomber suspect…I know you will be shocked by revelations of his “Allahu Akbar!” tapes…hat tip Cameron Gray…

A Marine Corps reservist arrested in a security scare near the Pentagon last week was charged Thursday in a series of pre-dawn shootings at military buildings in the Washington area last year.

Federal prosecutors said in court documents that they found bomb-making materials in a backpack carried by 22-year-old Yonathan Melaku as well as inside his home. They also said authorities discovered a video he took of himself firing shots outside one building last fall and repeatedly saying the Arabic words “Allahu Akbar,” which means “God is Great.”

He was detained for trespassing inside Arlington National Cemetery early Friday and was found with a quantity of ammonium nitrate, which is widely used in explosives; a spiral notebook containing references to al-Qaida and Osama bin Laden; a can of black spray paint; two cans of Rust-Oleum; and spent 9 mm shell casings.

In a subsequent search of his Alexandria home, officials said they found in his bedroom closet a typed list titled “Timer” with items an FBI bomb technician said were consistent with the requirements for “a time power unit and firing mechanism of an improvised explosive device.”

“Those items, combined with ammonium nitrate, would in fact make up several significant components required for the manufacture of an IED,” according to the affidavit.

Nevis is a nice suggestion, Major O–a physician friend went to Mustique, but said after a week he was ready to get off the island (and it’s a private island–the cheapest is about $11,000 for a week there).

I’ll check out Nevis, but we just may have decided upon Costa Rica. Unfortunately, I’m not much on ‘roughing it’. I’d love to see monkeys and birds and kinkajous, but can’t I see them from a beautiful walkway whilst wearing heels & a lovely little dress, and being served tea? (I know–surprise)

Aren’t they trying to ban muslims in Isreal?

Good to see the Lame media covering this. Similar to when Clinton presented the MoH to the parents of a Somalia veteran. The Father responded that he wasn’t fit to be President, and the only media that covered it was European.

    Here’s the new link.

Thanks Phil, for posting this new link. It’s a little different than the original, and if I’m not mistaken it omitts the part about refusing passengers who wear any non-muslim religous jewelry and those carrying any “non-mulim bibles.” As a poster at the original USA Today site asks – so if someone attempts to board a plane bound for Saudi Arabia with a bible or Christian faith based phone app – will they be refused?

A few responses I’ve seen take the line of well they can’t enter anyway but the larger question and issue is – are we really, here in the 21st century, going to condone and support anti-semitism?
Or are people going to stand against this bigoted, hateful mentality/ ROP cult group?

Also, it’s not just Christians who are being discriminated against – hindus, buddhists, bahai, et al, will be vetted of their religious attire/jewelry and reading materials.

I for one will not be flying Delta from here on out. That’s the price of their “just doing business” the anti-semite way. Just try and create an all faith except muslim airline and see how that goes down. If I’m not mistaken, this is what Delta has agreed to – not just prohibitting someone from Israel from boarding these flights in to Saudi Arabia – but those who are Jewish.

Sorry – to get back OT: more would-be terrorists with ME sounding names? more allah akbars? more timer/bomb making manuals? more traces of explosives and ammunition… Darn – if only we could connect the dots.

The BS is the entire article. Saudi Arabia controls who is issued visas. Delta is only complying with the KSA requirments. It has been this way with all airlines landing there for decades. I traveled to and from KSA for 18 years, including living there a number of years.

There is a question on the visa form for religion. Those who check ‘none’ or ‘jewish’ are usually denied the visa.

If Jewish businessmen are getting into the country it is probably because they are fudging their visa applications.
