Terror in the Beltway update: Would-be Pentagon bomber reportedly linked to military target shootings; Update: New arrests in Seattle…Shhhh, don’t say “Muslim;” Update: Pentagon bomb suspect’s “Allahu Akbar!” tapes

By Michelle Malkin  •  June 22, 2011 05:25 PM

Last fall, I spotlighted several terrifying shooting incidents at D.C.-area Marine buildings and military installations (see here and here). Shots were fired at the Marine Corps Museum in D.C., the Pentagon, a vacant Marine Corps recruiting station in Chantilly, Va, and a Coast Guard recruiting station in Woodbridge, VA.

The shootings remained unsolved…until now, it seems.

NBC-DC reports that the incidents have been tied to Ethiopian-born Marine reservist Yonathan Melaku, who was arrested last week near the Pentagon. InsideNoVa.com has the scoop:

Law enforcement and military sources say forensic evidence links Marine reservist Yonathan Melaku to last fall’s mysterious shootings at military targets around Northern Virginia, including the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle.

Melaku, 22, sparked a security scare Friday after U.S. Park Police saw him in Arlington National Cemetery after dark. Authorities then found his red 2011 Nissan truck parked in a wooded area near the Pentagon, according to an FBI press release.

Police say Melaku’s behavior after he was confronted by police prompted massive road closures during the Friday morning rush hour as officials investigated the contents of his backpack for what they initially feared might be bomb-making materials. They found no explosives. His Alexandria home also was searched.

Forensic evidence found during the investigation links Melaku to five shootings at military targets last year, sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity told www.insidenova.com.

I’ll ask again: When jihad-bent American Muslims target American soldiers on American soil, why does America yawn?

Update 6/23 New arrests…breaking in Seattle…AP and Fox reporting this afternoon that two have been taken into custody in plot on Seattle military installations…

More as details come in.

Update Shhhh, don’t say Muslim

The Justice Department says two men have been arrested in a plot to attack a military recruiting station in Seattle with machine guns and grenades.

Seattle resident Abu Khalid Abdul-Latif, also known as Joseph Anthony Davis, of Seattle, and Walli Mujahidh, also known as Frederick Domingue Jr. of Los Angeles were arrested Wednesday night.

They were scheduled to make initial court appearances Thursday on terrorism and firearms charges.

Investigators say the two men planned to attack a station in Seattle where military enlistees are processed. The building, on East Marginal Way, also houses a daycare.

They could have been named “Jihad al-Jihadi” and the Left media would still whitewash their root cause out of the story…

Fun fact: There was a homegrown jihadi named Abujihaad. Remember?

Update 6/23 Back to the Pentagon bomber suspect…I know you will be shocked by revelations of his “Allahu Akbar!” tapes…hat tip Cameron Gray…

A Marine Corps reservist arrested in a security scare near the Pentagon last week was charged Thursday in a series of pre-dawn shootings at military buildings in the Washington area last year.

Federal prosecutors said in court documents that they found bomb-making materials in a backpack carried by 22-year-old Yonathan Melaku as well as inside his home. They also said authorities discovered a video he took of himself firing shots outside one building last fall and repeatedly saying the Arabic words “Allahu Akbar,” which means “God is Great.”

He was detained for trespassing inside Arlington National Cemetery early Friday and was found with a quantity of ammonium nitrate, which is widely used in explosives; a spiral notebook containing references to al-Qaida and Osama bin Laden; a can of black spray paint; two cans of Rust-Oleum; and spent 9 mm shell casings.

In a subsequent search of his Alexandria home, officials said they found in his bedroom closet a typed list titled “Timer” with items an FBI bomb technician said were consistent with the requirements for “a time power unit and firing mechanism of an improvised explosive device.”

“Those items, combined with ammonium nitrate, would in fact make up several significant components required for the manufacture of an IED,” according to the affidavit.

Ali A. Mohamed. Mohamed, a major in the Egyptian army, immigrated to the U.S. in 1986 and joined the U.S. Army while a resident alien. This despite being on a State Department terrorist watch list before securing his visa. An avowed Islamist, he taught classes on Muslim culture to U.S. Special Forces at Fort Bragg, N.C., and obtained classified military documents. He was granted U.S. citizenship over the objections of the CIA.

A former classmate, Jason T. Fogg, recalled that Mohamed was openly critical of the American military. “To be in the U.S. military and have so much hate toward the U.S. was odd. He never referred to America as his country.”

Soon after he was honorably discharged from the Army in 1989, Mohamed hooked up with Osama bin Laden as an escort, trainer, bagman and messenger. Mohamed used his U.S. passport to conduct surveillance at the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi; he later pled guilty to conspiring with bin Laden to “attack any Western target in the Middle East” and admitted his role in the 1998 African embassy bombings that killed more than 200 people, including a dozen Americans.

Certain entities within government and media want us to be lulled to sleep and remain unconcerned about the latent dangers of our domestic jihadis, and do not want us alert and ready to respond to the coming turmoil brought about, at least in part, by them.

It seems something’s to be gained by not letting a self-made crisis go to waste, and taking political advantage of it. Or at least that is what is intended.

However, the progressives usually don’t plan for the associated unintended consequences.

First, you find some Chinese laundrymen in Chinatown. Then you give money to Hillary and Bill. Then you complete some fraudulent paperwork showing that each of these Chinese workers gave the allowable limit to the candidate of their choice.

In return, depending on how much cash you can bundle, you will receive either, US citizenship for selected individuals, US nuclear secrets, or supercomputer technology.

We were about to dishonorably discharge a young sailor for multiple transgressions, including unauthorized absence and thefts. He had been to CO’s mast 3 times within a year, and treated with kid gloves each time because he was a minority (I know, prove it! I can’t.).

As he was being processed out, a letter was received by the Group commander (a One-Star) recommending that the charges against the young sailor, and the findings, be “closely re-examined.”

The letter was from the Governor of Virginia, the kid’s home state (and, curiously enough, also a minority).

The sailor was then “verbally reprimanded,” given a suspended bust, and sent to a new command in Florida.

The last I heard, he was doing 20 in a Georgia prison, 2nd degree murder, of his fiance.

My wife is not a kid person, and we found lots of nice things to do in Hawaii. I only remember her mentioning a kid maybe one time the whole time we were there.

And/or The Hapuna Prince Beach Hotel next door, which is a bit less expensive, but is an outstanding place. Both have fabulous private beaches and they share one of the most beautiful golf courses in Hawaii. Several top restuarants are located nearby, like Roy’s and Merriman’s. Mauna Kea Beach Hotel has few kids. Hapuna Prince has a bit more but the place is so spread out, you don’t notice. I’ve been getting emails lately from Hapuna Prince with some enticing special offers, if you go, get the package with the breakfast. Mahalo.

Wilders found not guilty of inciting hatred

    Thank You Jesus

Anti-Islam campaigner and MP Geert Wilders has been found not guilty of charges of inciting hatred and discrimination against Muslims and non-westerm immigrants by judges in Amsterdam.

The court ruled that some of Wilders’ statements were insulting, shocking and on the edge of legal acceptibility, but that they were made in the broad context of a political and social debate on the multi-cultural society.

Talk of a tsunami of Muslims is ‘blunt and humiliating’ but is ‘not subversive and does not incite to hatred or discrimination’, the court said. And Wilders’ 17- minute video compilation Fitna could lead to feelings of hatred, but Wilders himself had not generated this feeling, the court said.

    Victory

In a reaction, Wilders said the verdict was a victory for freedom of speech. ‘You can criticise Islam. I have not been silenced,’ he said.

‘Sometimes I meant to be coarse and denigrating,’ he said. ‘In a political debate you must be able to say what you like.’

However, lawyer Gerard Spong, who was instrumental in getting the case heard, said he was disappointed because he feels Wilders did go too far with some of his statements.

    Context

‘The abusive language about Islam and the artificial distinction between Islam and Muslims have one effect: contributing to hatred of Muslims,’ he said. The judge’s ruling that such statements fall within the context of a broad debate are vague, Spong said, and raised the question ‘what is the context?’

Alexander Pechtold, leader of the D66 Liberal party, said the ruling could not be seen as a licence to incite hatred, even for politicians. And Christian Democrat parliamentary party leader Sybrand van Haersma Buma said the CDA is committed to debate on the basis of respect and decency and would continue to criticise Wilders if he is unnecessarily insulting.

Tilburg law professor Theo de Roos told news agency ANP the trial was a test case for prosecution on the basis of inciting hatred. ‘This trial shows you have to go very far before you can be found guilty. Only actual threats are no longer legally admissable,’ he said.

    Blunders

The case began on October 4 last year, but collapsed after three weeks when a special legal panel ruled the judges may have shown partiality following a string of legal blunders. New judges were then sworn in and the case was heard again this year.

The anti-racism groups which pressed the prosecution department to take the case to trial are now planning to take their complaint to the EU court of human rights and the UN, according to media reports.

They get fast-tracked, with little or no investigation on their background, in courtesy of our State Department, bending over backwards for certain organizations, sponsoring them, often, as refugees and/or asylum seekers from war-torn areas where we are or have been militarily involved: the Balkans, Somalia, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, etc. What is the common denominator linking these areas? And why are groups of these transplants often relocated in unsuspecting smaller communities spread across flyover country?
