Did Obama Forget Those Private Jet Tax Breaks He Just Denounced Were Created By His Own Stimulus Plan?

By Doug Powers  •  June 29, 2011 04:37 PM

**Written by Doug Powers

Before signing the stimulus bill (aka “Porkulus”) in February of 2009, White House Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton said that, even though the president probably hadn’t read the entire 1,079 bill cover-to-cover, he knew it was okay to sign because he had “a team of the best legislative and economic experts in the country who advised him.”

Apparently Obama didn’t check with them before letting loose on private jet tax breaks at today’s press conference.

From the Heritage Foundation:

The chief economic culprit of President Obama’s Wednesday press conference was undoubtedly “corporate jets.” He mentioned them on at least six occasions, each time offering their owners as an example of a group that should be paying more in taxes.

“I think it’s only fair to ask an oil company or a corporate jet owner that has done so well,” the president stated at one point, “to give up that tax break that no other business enjoys.”

But the corporate jet tax break to which Obama was referring – called “accelerated depreciation,” and a popular Democratic foil of late – was created by his own stimulus package.

More background on that here.

“The stimulus is working as intended! Well, except for that part… and that part… and…”

Seriously though when are these CEO’s and the GOP going to take Obama to task for all the BS that he and his party spews on a daily basis. Sure it may be hard to get the press to play along, so string the press along with some phony story that they are considering caving on the tax cuts and let them know that they will be giving a live press briefing….then play bait and switch and explain directly to the American people why Obama is wrong and what will really happen if he gets his way.

Falling Tax Would Lift All Yachts
    By AGIS SALPUKAS
    Published: ***February 07, 1992***

The nation’s luxury-boat builders, many clinging to their businesses after two years of plunging sales, finally got some good news last week.

President Bush, in his budget proposals, asked Congress to repeal the 10 percent luxury tax on yachts priced at more than $100,000 (and also on private planes that cost more than $250,000). The repeal, which Congress is likely to approve, would be retroactive to Feb. 1.

Since the tax took effect in January 1990, hundreds of builders of large and small boats have spoken of it as a ***stake driven into the heart of an industry already suffering from the recession, tighter bank rules on financing and fallout from the gulf war***.

Obama press conference – false choices and demagoguery

This was typical throughout the press conference. He’s the only reasonable one, the only one who cares about people, the only one trying hard to reach a “balanced” debt deal, and so on and so on, the facts be damned. Of course, if it seems to some that he’s been detached, it’s only because he’s been so busy working on the Taliban, and bin Laden, and the Greece crisis.
He had the audacity to say with a straight face that his administration is trying to remove burdensome regulations, when in fact Obamacare and Dodd-Frank alone impose vast regulations (most of which have not been written yet, which freezes business investment) on virtually every area of the economy.
Not only does he not get it, he is ideologically incapable of getting it. He views the economy as a zero sum game, a point I have made before.
This reminds me of the failed luxury tax on yachts years ago, which devasted the shipbuilding industry in Rhode Island leading to substantial layoffs; the choice was not between yacht owners and children, but between job creating industries or not.

Do not underestimate the ability of this man to appeal to our worst jealousies and envies, while telling us he is doing the opposite with a smile on his face.

Thanks Doug for another great example of Obama’s hypocrisy. However, don’t assume he does it out of ignorance. There is a pattern emerging that indicates these events are part of a plan. They are deliberately creating straw men that they can attack later to help them get re-elected. Giving tax breaks to rich jet owners is just one of many events they plan to blame on Republicans.

Before Project Gun Runner was revealed, Obama blamed the gun violence in Mexico on our loose gun laws, which he claimed allows guns to be too easily exported across the border. We weren’t supposed to find out that it was his administration behind the gun-running into Mexico. It was planned to point the finger of blame on gun loving Republicans and bring about more gun control.

The Democrats have not proposed a budget in two years. That’s not an oversight. It allows them to blame future spending cuts entirely on Republicans who are the only grown-ups in the room with the courage to propose them.

Those are just two examples, but there are many more. They reveal a deliberate pattern on the part of Obama and the Democrats to deceive the public into voting them back into office. Hopefully, they will all backfire on them just like project Gun Runner is beginning to do.

I would add nor should it. Government has it’s role in a limited way, to keep the playing field level (as you noted) not to unbalance it in favor of one group over another.

Correct. Government makes the conditions for job growth possible through reasonable taxation and regulation, allowing businesses the posiblity to hire and operate profitably here in the USA.

Unreasonable taxation and regulation forces business to reduce the workforce, scale back operations, move overseas to remain profitable, or simply cease to exist.

Ain’t that an understatement? Unions will vote for him to keep their government backing going so they can retire at age 50 with 100k a year pensions.

Blacks will vote for him because he is black. (well partly black) Imagine that, basing your opinion on the color of someones skin.

Illegal immigrants will vote for him because he supports their illegal activity, including the act of voting.

Poor people will vote for him because he promises to redistribute wealth to them. Buying votes.

And there are plenty of others that will vote for him because they buy the LSM b.s about the 2 parties.

Most of these idiots have no recognition of how much his policies hurt them. They kill jobs so these people have no job prospects but get some gubmint handouts. They buy into the notion that rich people have too much money and should pay more taxes. They don’t realize that those extra taxes are pushed down to the consumer of the goods, not to mention the cut the government takes when they redistribute it. A dollar in tax becomes 30 cents when redistributed. They don’t make the connection.

To Gina and all doubting Thomas’: China embraced 50 years of communism, where they couldn’t feed themselves. N. Korea is in the same boat now. But China decided in 1995 that they HAD TO embrace capitalism at least in economic practice. A mere 15 years later, they are the world’s economic engine. We used to be that engine before we decided that our sick, lame, and lazy needed a hammock to live in for the rest of their lives. China has no SS. China has no Medicare. China has no Medicaid. China has no EPA. China has no OSHA. China has a very low tax rate. Sounds like the U.S. during it’s manufacturing heyday, doesn’t it? We can become the world’s economic leader again if we quit funding all the world’s problems, quit regulating our businesses into bankruptcy or relocation, quit taxing our businesses into bankruptcy or relocation, and quit allowing a parasitic legal system suing businesses into bankruptcy or relocation.
