Document drop: ICE faces heat over Tampa gunwalking allegations

By Michelle Malkin  •  July 13, 2011 12:33 PM

On Monday, I noted brewing questions about a Fast & Furious-like gunwalker operation out of Tampa, Florida, that allegedly put weapons in the hands of MS-13 gangsters in Honduras.

House Republicans are turning up the heat on several agencies.

Rep. Gus Bilirakis (FL-09), a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, sent a letter yesterday to AG Eric Holder and ATF Acting Director Kenneth E. Melson demanding answers about the so-called Operation Castaway. He followed up today with a letter to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director John Morton.

Just a reminder that investigative bloggers at Sipsey Street Irregulars and David Codrea, who broke the Tampa stories, could not confirm from their sources that Operation Castaway was tied to the Tampa gunwalking allegations, but they report that two sources are pointing to ATF misdeeds that led to 200 firearms ending up in Honduran hands. Here’s where they are:

We went with what our central source (who was closest to the source of the story than anyone else) said, which was that although he was certain of gunwalking to Honduras he was not certain it was a part of the Castaway operation.

…Whether or not the Tampa-to-Honduras gunwalking was a part of, or spin-off of, Operation Castaway, I had a long exchange of information with two of our sources on the Tampa nexus of the Gunwalker Scandal and ATFSA’s non-denial denial of Tampa gunwalking last night. They had both solid confirmation that it took place and more allegations of misdeeds on the part of Virginia O’Brien, Tampa Field Division SAC and the ATF Chief Counsel’s Office in DC.

“The Honduras story is solid,” one source said. Not only that, but it seems the “walked” firearms, amounting to about 200 (not 1000 as has been reported), “were surveilled by agents to Honduras ‘on the walk,’” all the way through to the point where “they watched the delivery.”

Stonewalled? OK then the Republicans should cut ICE and ATF budgets in half. So the Senate and Dingy Harry won’t go along–shut down the government until we get some answers.

End game. Didn’t matter that this was the outcome of the gunwalker operation. The Pretender in Chief no doubt had contingency plans whatever the result. He’s gonna go what he’s gonna do ’til someone stops him.

This is what happens when you put lawyers and politicians in charge of a Law Enforcement agency, they use it for politicial purposes. I suggest that anyone interested go read the blogs at cleanupatf.org. Very interesting post by ATF street agents including Jay Dobyns and Vince Cefelu. If some of what they talk about on their blog is true, it is very disturbing. They are accusing the upper mgmt in the ATF of retaliation against anyone who reports waste fraud or abuse, lawlessness by supervisors and manufacturing evidence against American citizens. There are patriots in the ATF, they just need to be heard. As an NFA collector i’d rather get my $200 tax stamp from them than the secret service or the fbi.

For example, have you heard about the teacher scandal in Omaha, where teaches were cheating on their student’s achievements and making them score higher? This has apparently been going on for 10 years. And it is tied to their pay. Hmmm…go figure. Anyway, they are now noticing the strange phenomenon occuring elsewhere, including DC. Could this be the same kind of cheating? Oh gee, I don’t know!

I would like to know at what point Urkel and others in his gang of thugs started flooding the media with their whining of guns going to Mexico, and at which point the Gunwalker story first came out…which I believe was after their whining started.

I believe it was SOLELY a tool to implement more gun laws, because if I recall correctly, Urkel and his thugs were making a big deal of guns to Mexico a few months prior to the first reporting on Gunwalker.

If they were doing it then, was it because they KNEW guns were being allowed to “walk” over the border?

It seemed like such a contrived issue at the time they were whining about it.
