1,471: Another day, another round of Obamacare waivers

Congratulations to the 39 new recipients of coveted Obamacare waivers!
The latest batch was disclosed yesterday on the HHS/CMS website:
Updated July 15, 2011
As of the end of June 2011, a total of 1,471 one-year waivers have been granted. This update includes 39 new approvals. The number of enrollees in plans with annual limits waivers is 3.2 million, representing only about 2 percent of all Americans who have private health insurance today.
Waiver applications will no longer be accepted after September 22, 2011. As noted above, on June 17, 2011, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) introduced a process for plans that have already received waivers and want to renew those waivers for plan or policy years beginning before January 1, 2014. The new guidance extends the duration of waivers that have been granted through 2013, if applicants submit annual information about their plan and comply with requirements to ensure that their enrollees understand the limits of their coverage. Existing waiver recipients must apply to extend their current waiver and all applications must be submitted by September 22, 2011; after that date applications for an extension will no longer be considered. Any plans that have not yet applied for a waiver also must apply by September 22, 2011.
Until a few months ago, the HHS/CMS waiver page allowed you to view the entire en masse list on an .html page in chronological order. The waiver recipients are now broken down by type and posted in a bit more unwiedly.pdf files. As far as I have been able to piece together for you based on their approval dates, these are 36 of the 39 new golden ticket holders whose applications were signed off in June. Not sure what the other three are. If anyone wants to spend a Saturday morning perusing the data to see whether you can find what I missed, give me a holler.

So Obama is Willie Wonka handing out golden tickets?
There are so many waivers that we now need a catalog system? WTF?
Why won’t the GOP include Romney/ObamaCare in its debt ceiling negotiations? Everything Obama crammed down our throats since being elected is off limits to spending cuts. And the GOP leadership just accepts without a fight?
Because the House has already passed that as part of the Ryan budget plan.
I can’t wait to get home tonight and get into this discussion!! Family gathering today. Fortunately it is a pool party, so the heat might not kill me!
Obamadeathcare will not stand!! There is way too much wrong with this and more is being found out every day. There is no way this will be allowed to stand. I am as sure of this as I am that Obama is not a valid president and will be found out!
Have at it, everyone…I’ll be back!
One question Obummer has yet to answer; if his ObummerCare plan is just so all-fired great hen why are so many of his supporters trying to get out of it?
The ultimate waiver will be waving bye bye to O’Bambi. I understand Jima’h Carter has an extra room. They could hunt rabbits from a boat.

The Right to Keep and Bear Arms–>Constitutional Carry
It is a RIGHT-not a license from “our betters”
I just want a waiver from Obozo and his cronies and the entire liberal agenda.
You are doing a great job dealing with that critter #3 today. Thanks.

This is real journalism. If one relies on the agenda driven media one would never read this story. Thanks Michelle!
Sen. John Barrasso is introducing legislation to allow the individual to apply for waivers. That will only work if those waivers get granted by the HHS witch.
1,471? Kewl!
Call us when it hits 1492 and we’ll have a grand Discoverer’s Day Celebration! Hot dogs and cotton candy for the kids.
( Do the waiver filers have to bring a note or fabricated SOB-story from their mothers? )

And if that ain’t a Golden Wonka Ticket I don’t know what the hell is? Gotta’ love, love. LOVE that Equal Protection Under The ‘Law’ huh?
No Prog-trolls, we’re not remotely interested in your faux-elitist spin on how that somehow doesn’t ‘apply’ here? Spare us, there’s been a run on Dramamine lately and Doug Powers has been hoarding it!
Speaking of the HHS Witch...
Kathleen Sebelius doesn’t know what premium support is–and she should
That is, if she wants to be critical of Paul Ryan’s plan. HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius was quick to say that seniors would “die sooner” under the Ryan Medicare plan, but did she even read it and furthermore does she even understand it? One would think that she would understand “premium support” as she’s a former insurance commissioner. Kaiser Health News reviews premium support and its history (emphasis mine):
Under a premium support system, the government would pay a percentage toward the insurance premium for each individual; there would likely be more help for low-income and sicker people. And enrollees could (not required) kick in more money to get better coverage.
Let’s take a look at her ‘confuzzled’ look as she was clearly caught off-guard by Congressman Michael Burgess (R-TX and a physician) as seen here at the July 13 subcommittee hearings (skip to .59 to 2:16):
http://hotair.com/greenroom/archives/2011/07/16/kathleen-sebelius-doesnt-know-what-premium-support-is-and-she-should/
The Weekly Standard also reiterates and shreds her original comment:
This, of course, is as ludicrous as it is uncouth. First, the Ryan plan (which wouldn’t affect anyone who is not yet 55 years old) would not give seniors a voucher, as Sebelius well knows. Instead, the government would provide premium support to help seniors purchase private health insurance. Seniors would pick the insurance plan of their choice, and the government would funnel the premium support directly to the insurer — just as it does for Medicare Advantage, the Medicare prescription drug benefit, and the health care system for members of Congress.
In short, seniors wouldn’t “die sooner” under Ryan’s plan. But Medicare would die sooner without it.
This is just more proof that Sebelius is nothing more than a partisan mouthpiece. Her ideology gives away her game with her wanting to insert government into the playing field, and further evidenced the day before by none other than Paul Ryan who grills Sebelius on whether seniors should have control of their own health care and choices for their drug coverage. Sebelius stumbles at the basic principle of allowing seniors to choose their own plan, but knows that choice is good for competition, and would gladly put the government at the top of that competitive scale.
Update: This is not the first time Sebelius has been clueless.
http://blogs.forbes.com/davidwhelan/2011/01/28/kathleen-sebelius-doesnt-understand-the-difference-between-subsidies-and-savings/
This was never about improving health care or the health insurance industry. It wasn’t about cutting costs or making anything more affordable. It wasn’t about allowing more access to doctors and procedures. It wasn’t about letting us keep anything we like either. Sebelius is trying to hide the truth and is pathetic at it. bho and all his czars have to go.
I just sent an e-mail to my senator (Burr-NC} asking how I apply for a waiver. I do not expect a reply from that RINO
That gives ‘Scapper time to warn up and hone the BattleSkillet. LOL.
We need an equal protections clause in all legislation that enables everyone a waiver if one gets a waiver. If the law does not do this, then it is a bad law and should be repealed.
It never ceases to amaze me…the more our government tries to “level the playing field”, the more potholes they add. Time to clean that cesspool in D.C.
I do love their version of equality for all! What a bunch of bozos. They haven’t a clue as to why all these people want waivers. They still think that obamacare is a good idea.
I just got back from our family pool party and was reminded once again of how uninformed some people are!! I knew that my brother, the communist, was sure to make some snide comment to me. So, I was ready for him! As soon as he made a political statement, I was going to say, “I would agree with you except for one little thing”. He would say, “What?” I would say, “That would make us BOTH wrong!” So what happened? My new son-in-law beat me to it with the same line!! I knew my daughter picked a winner!
Tapping impatiently on your skillet didn’t have damn thing to do with it
There’s actually a day care union?????
It really helps when you start your little communists younger these days.
Repealing this toxin called Obamacare is absolutely mandatory to saving the country. It is the lynch pin, the poop chute to the Death Star.
…or Willie Wanker, as the Brits would say…
The whole country, except San Francisco and Las Vegas, should get a waiver. The few conservatives living there should get waivers too…. or relocate. No, I don’t mean wear a yellow C on their chest and be congregated into a ghetto (although SanFran is damned close to being a ghetto, think Haight-Ashbury and Mission District)
Maybe Jimmah can talk Habitat for Humanity to build him a hut close to his half-brother in Kenya. Of course, it would have to be big enough to accommodate his Aunt Patootie, mother-in-law, and Moe, if one could get her azz out of AF1. She’s gonna be so pissed to find out she’s going to have to give that up come 2012!
Off topic here, but it is interesting that there hasn’t been a mention from Michelle Malkin about the extraordinarily slimy scandal that is engulfing News Corp. at the moment.
Perhaps something this week?
Yes! It ‘is’ Off Topic! And as we all know, MM has been such a staunch supporter of traditional media outlets..!..? /sarc
Can we suggest you start your -own- blog and then you can discuss whatever slimey topics you would like?
Oh and uh, no one cares! If canning News Corp.’s CEO would Repeal ObieCare then you might have something there? Yawn…
It’s also interesting that everyone that SHOULD know the details of the ‘extraordinarily slimy scandal’, aka “Fast and Furious”, consistently disavows any knowledge or responsibility for allowing Mexican drug cartels to receive weapons without ATF intervention and arrests.
O’Mulligan should be facing impeachment and jail time along with his marxist/communist cronies for this one.
I think Fast and Furious trumps phone tapping. Don’t you think? Besides, if the IMF chief could be a victim of a plot, why can’t Rupert Murdoch?
and yeah you’re right troll… it IS off topic so bugger off.
Why such animosity? As for mainstream, is Fox News not mainstream? Does Michelle Malkin appear frequently there? Is it owned by News Corp?
CNN made a devil’s pact with a dictator, running a propaganda-for-profits deal with Saddam Hussein and throwing away all claims to journalistic integrity. There was no broad ideological or industry pressure to take down CNN. The New York Times violated the Espionage Act of 1917 and imperiled US security interests in its publication of the SWIFT financial sting story that was netting terrorists. It should have been prosecuted. There was no industry call for the NY Slimes to shut its doors. Someone needs to tell the Liberal media when they are pointing their finger at Rupert Murdoch, they are point 3 back at themselves. Turn about is fair play. (Sorry, Harry) I wonder if they could withstand having the skeletons in their closets seeing the light of day?
The story here, which isn’t new – is the media likes to cover it’s self. They have made themselves the story. That’s not journalism – that’s the media pissing contest heating up
It’s the middle of summer, typically a slow news cycle. This gives the media something to hump in the 24/7 news cycle – it also happens to be their favorite topic – themselves. Just because Fox News is owned by Rupert Murdoch, doesn’t make them complicit by association for what was going on in England. That’s the progressive wet dream!
Even the progressives admit, they can’t take down Fox News, it will just change hands among the conservative media moguls. They hope it will effect their rival Fox’s ratings…….
And in the US, it’s the lefty media attacking Fox News ahead of 2012, and reviving Barry’s “not a legitimate news organization” meme…… but the more they hype the scandal the more they drive eyes to Fox News to take a look at how they are covering the scandal. That’s not smart.
If people want to prostrate themselves over the state of tabloid journalism today, we have plenty here in the states to criticize. The Liberal media, really wants average people to get excited about the state of tabloid journalism. Whoever broke the law will get arrested and prosecuted, which appears to be what’s happening. It’s sleazy, but it’s not all that exciting.

The mainstream media are failing to address two central truths about key domestic issues for America this summer.
1. Agencies of the US federal government created the “Gunwalker” problem.
2. Mr. Obama is the one who will decide who gets paid after 2 August, if there is no budget deal.
The two issues are largely unrelated, except through the principles on which the Obama administration has handled them and the MSM are dealing with them.

DITTO!
Darn fingers!
vaiver=waiver
I have been trying (Jayson Blair, NYT) to come up with (Stephen Glass, The New Republic) some names, or any name (Dan Rather, CBS News) of a journalist that may (Eason Jordan, CNN), may have lied (Janet Cooke, WaPo).
I know that if I concentrate (Michael Finkel, NYT Magazine), I should be able to name (Patricia Smith, Boston Globe) at least one (Jack Kelley, USA Today).
Hmmmmmmm (Michael Gallagher, Cincinnati Enquirer), you would think that (Scott Thomas Beauchamp, TNR) as much as I read, I could come up with one name (Rich Sanchez, CNN).
1. This is mostly a U.K. issue. Let them sort it out.
2. How many people died as a direct result?
3. Would you feel the same if it was a branch of NBC?
Errah Stupid question but has anybody cross referenced Obamacare waivers with 2012 Obama Campaign donations?
