Hollywood Hasn’t Lost ‘Hope’

President Obama said 80% of the country agrees with him on the debt, and he’d be close to being right — provided the borders of the country only encompassed L.A.-area movie studio lots.

Obama is taking some hits — an approval rating in the low to mid 40′s, and former supporters are threatening to bail just for starters — but there are a couple of things Obama will be able to count on: Having a sizable portion of the mainstream media still in his pocket, and the Hollywood left once again giving him lots of money:

President Barack Obama’s latest fundraising report resembles an A-list of Hollywood stars, with donations from some of the top celebrities in the entertainment industry.

Among the more than 550,000 donors to the president’s 2012 reelection bid were big-name movie stars including actors George Clooney, Michael Douglas, Sharon Stone, Michael Keaton, Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson. Filmmaker Steven Spielberg and his wife, actress Kate Capshaw, also gave to the 2012 campaign, according to the latest Federal Election Commission report. Jennifer Garner and Gwyneth Paltrow both contributed under their married names —Affleck and Martin, respectively.

“30 Rock” actor Alec Baldwin, who has often toyed with a potential political run, also shelled out cash for Obama’s second-quarter fundraising haul. And several other TV actors — such as “Monk”’s Tony Shalhoub, “Glee”’s Jane Lynch, “24”’s president Dennis Haysbert and sci-fi stars Scott Bakula and Richard Dean Anderson — joined Baldwin in contributing to the president’s reelection bid.

Obama contributors also include Carl Reiner, Will Ferrell, Anthony Edwards and, no kidding, the guy who portrays grapes in Fruit of the Loom commercials. There’s a joke in there that I decline to make because it’s Sunday.

In 2008, Tom Hanks made a video announcing his endorsement of Barack Obama, and I always thought that picture behind his right shoulder would turn out to be prophetic:

If Hanks does another video endorsement next year, I’d suggest this updated backdrop:

I was in the 25th Infantry Division. I went in 1970 just when they returned to Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. The movie Platoon is about the “Tropical Lightning”. It was pretty much decimated.

And you don’t hear Obo talking about getting rid of some of the very lucrative loopholes created specifically for hollywood. This president is more vindictive to his “percieved enemies” and more rewarding to his contributors than any since the era of LBJ and Nixon. Give me money, I’ll set you a place at the gubmint trough, give to those ba***rd republicans, I’ll cancel your gubmint contracts. The Chicago Way.

After Mitch McConnell’s refusal to support tax hikes within the raising of the debt ceiling, the White House Press Secretary Jay Carney sharply attacked him as supporting special loopholes for millionaires and billionaires.

Politifact.org is too busy analyzing Palin’s Facebook for any spelling errors to take the time to double check how, if at all, accurate Carney’s statement is. The rest of the media simply repeated Carney’s accusation every top of the hour without having bothered to stop and consider whether it might be false.

I gave them the benefit of doubt and waited a while, but after no one bothered fact checking it I felt it necessary to prove his statement deserving of the rating “pants on fire.”

It’s a fact that the larger the size of government, the greater leeway for corruption and actions of self-interest. The same stands true in every institution and even in the business world. The larger a business is the greater the possibility of corrupt or unethical activity within.

The difference between unethical and corrupt individuals in the business world and in the government is that business world has the government breathing down their neck via law enforcers while the government has no one on top of them. Yes, we have a system of checks and balances and government officials are officially subject to law enforcement just like the rest of the country, but the fact of the matter is that there is an open double standard with nobody stopping corrupt politicians. Just think of Charles Rangel.

All too sad. Usually actors learn nothing from the characters they portray on screen. Those were just money making roles and series for the public to consume. Just because an actor plays a role on screen more often than not has nothing to do with his personal life, values and convictions, other than gaining fame and fortune from portraying a person, fictional or real.

We’ve come to learn that from watching CONgress in action. Regretably, their actions aren’t inconsecuential.

Hmm, doesn’t college dropout Gwyneth own a home in London – with hubby what’s his name – that leaks energy like a sieve if you use thermal imaging to look at it? I seem to recall something like that concerning them. (Gee, and doesn’t Clooney live in Italy? I bet his income falls under some Euro tax shelter too…)

But I digress, I really wanted to mention what a lousy comedienne Paltrow is even as she smirks her way through Glee. No comedic timing, probably never had anyone in real life laugh at any jokes.. and in last week’s re-run, her character gave a lecture of tolerance, several weeks after her character was attacking Christians and Palin. I wonder if she noticed the hypocrisy?

its impossible for a true leftist to be a hypocrite. Being a leftist means having a right to do anything that you want anywhere, anytime, and with anybody, because they are too important, in their own minds, to need to abide by any rules meant for commoners. Just remember, leftist celebreties are vital in defeating right wing radical conservatives who want to rape and pillage mother earth’s resources, eat meat, and want all minorities, children, eldery and anuimals to live in squalor and misery and just die. They all deserve what they have and thus, there is no way for leftists to be hypocritical about anything they do.

Yeah, that was a bit disappointing. He seems to be involved in sea create habitat issues. Sounds like Obama’s vilification of “Big Oil” could be what works for Rick Anderson.

But the picture is so much bigger than that. It’s a same these Hollywood types don’t get it.

Does Spielberg really think there’s an ultimate difference between Nazis and Marxists?? I will never understand Jewish progressives. They are an oxymoron.

And Forrest Gump lost me at, well, “Forrest Gump.”

I boycott these actors, producers and directors when I find out that they are supporting Obeyme. The majority of the hollywood/New York glitterati are so stupid they are incapable of discerning fact from fiction. Since they live in a protected world and never face what it’s like to do without, they don’t know or care about how the real American lives. Even their acts of generosity are done with an ulterior motive…to make the public think they are good guys. No wonder they like Obama, they are cut from the same cloth.

Regarding Spielberg and Israel, let’s recall that he is an antiIsrael guy so don’t be shocked that he would support Obama’s reelection. Spielberg’s movie “Munich” actually bordered on being antiSemitic. The Israeli Mossad agents were money grubbing humorless nerds with Yiddish accents. The Israelis in the movie were always using credit cards to grub their way to reimbursement later.
Spielberg knows so little about the way the spies work that he thinks real life agents would leave the traces behind them that credit cards do. The guy is just a dope.
Then Spielberg makes the lead Palestinian into a violin playing loving father who stands up to the money grubbing immoral Israelis. Spielberg does something even more noxious. At the end of the movie, he lists the names of Israeli victims of Palestinian terrorism at Munich ALONGSIDE the names of the Palestinian terrorists who killed them. It is moral equivalence at its worst. And Spielberg referred to critics of the movie as “Luddites in my own community”.
At the end of Munich, the camera pans to the World Trade Centers with the message that it is blowback from Israeli policies that will cause the reluctant Muslims to do the deed of 9/11.
I suspect that there is some selfloathing going on with Mr. Spielberg and others. Small wonder that they love Obama so much.
