Gallup: No Need to Raise the Presidential Approval Rating Ceiling

By Doug Powers  •  July 29, 2011 04:07 PM

The presidential approval rating ceiling doesn’t have to be raised, but the floor might need to be lowered soon.

Los Angeles Times:

As the economy sags, unemployment climbs and debt negotiators dawdle, President Obama’s job approval rating has fallen to a new low.

A new Gallup Poll, just released, finds the Democrat’s job approval rating has dropped to 40% in recent days, one point below his previous low from April and a full 10 points below the job approval he enjoyed as recently as June 7.

Gallup notes his job approval has hovered in the mid-40s for most of the last two months.

“However,” the new survey says, “it has stumbled in the past few days, coinciding with intensification of the debt ceiling/budget battle in Washington.”

According to Gallup, Obama’s approval among independents has dropped from 41% to 34%, and his approval among Democrats was 79% and now stands at 72%. The “call or Tweet your member of Congress” leadership style during threat of “economic Armageddon” doesn’t seem to be doing much for the ol’ approval rating either.

Additionally, the president has major problems in battleground states, and trails a generic Republican by six points. The trick now is for the GOP to figure out how to get this generic Republican on the ballot.

Seriously. . .because the candidates who have announced thus far don’t stack up against Obama nearly as favorably in the polls.

Maybe one of them should use “I’m the Generic Candidate” as their campaign slogon.

This needs to be taken in context with all Presidents approval ratings correlated with significant events and time in office. That way we can compare his Presidency against other Presidencys. The 40% doesn’t mean much by itself although its hard for me to stomach that 40% of somebody still approves of the job this clown is doing.

I wouldn’t doubt but that we will see him in a cardigan braving the cold in the harsh conditions in the WH as he asks us all to turn our heat down this winter. At that point, the Carterization of Obama will be complete.

Of course, even Carter never contemplated or attempted the type of damage that this socialist has done. He was just a bumbling fool, not an evil one.

Sad to say, but most of those others are probably the racists that like him just because of the color of his skin.

Like Colin Powell who can’t possibly reconcile the speech he gave at the 1996 GOP convention entitled “Why I’m a Republican” with his endorsement of Obeyme.

That won’t happen. Remember, Rahm Emanuel said Obummer like to keep the heat so high you could grow orchids in the oval office. “Shared Sacrifice” doesn’t mean HE has to sacrifice.

Part of it is their demographic sample:

Results for this Gallup poll are based on telephone interviews conducted July 26-28, 2011, on the Gallup Daily tracking survey, with a random sample of 1,463 adults, aged 18 and older, living in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia.

This is a poll of all adults, not registered or likely voters – in other words, it includes the least informed, least interested, least involved members of the population who happen to be home during the day.

The 40% approval probably isn’t all that accurate, however, Blacks support has only dropped 4% total, guess they can’t bring themselves to blame OBambi for their disasterous unemployment numbers, (that dam Bush never quits). Just for fun ask one of Odumber’s supporters just what they are approving of at this point. Their answers are interesting (translation; Bizarre).

Tim: Follow. But. Follow only if ye be men of valour, for the entrance to this cave is guarded by a creature so foul, so cruel that no man yet has fought with it and lived. Bones of full fifty men lie strewn about its lair. So, brave knights, if you do doubt your courage or your strength, come no further, for death awaits you all with nasty, big, pointy teeth.
King Arthur: What an eccentric performance.

Cleric: And the Lord spake, saying, “First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.
    Brother Maynard: Amen.
    All: Amen.
King Arthur: Right. One… two… five.
    Galahad: Three, sir.
    King Arthur: Three.

I was thinking more along the lines of a foreign-policy crisis, triggered by bad actors on the world stage who have by now taken the measure of the man and come away with the inescapable conclusion that he’s not just weak, but pathetically so.

The killer rabbit seems to have been the cherry on top after just about everything else had gone wrong during Jimmy Carter’s presidency. Obama still has a little ways further to fall yet.

Remember, “Jimmy Carter 2.0″ is the best case scenario…

I think he probably is. I always thought many people are afraid to say what they feel. I know a guy who the other night after a few drinks said, I really don’t like Obama, but I am so afraid to say it out loud. I think a few of those percentage points are people who are afraid to say it out loud.

One must also consider that he gets a 13% head start because of skin color. Take that away and he is closer to where he should be at 27%.

More important, pay attention to the polls in those states that Obama carried in 2008, compared to his support today. His numbers are dwindling rapidly and indicate he could lose many of them in an election today.

Remember, it’s the electoral college votes that makes or breaks a Presidential contest and he is rapidly losing his electoral college votes. That will be his real un-doing and he knows it. So do his financial backers.

Since the GOP worries so much about blame, and the blame seems to be distributed to Obama as well as the House and Senate, why not just call Obama’s bluff, and not accept anything that comes from Reid. Force Obama’s hand which I think will be the 14th Amendment.

Then in retaliation the GOP then create a budget in the HOUSE for 2012 that has NO deficit.

What I find startling: It’s the LA Times reporting this; can the WaPo or NYT be far behind? I didn’t see it mentioned in today’s Sun-Times and I haven’t looked at the Chicago Trib yet.

Why is it called a debt ceiling? Why not a debt hole? We can’t DIG our way out of this, that only makes the hole deeper, Mr. President; we have to climb our way out of this mess–or in your case, just continue to point fingers at other people.

On the bright side, we will get better mileage from our cars when gas is at $8/gal, thanks to BO’s new standards for the automakers.

Many swing states are starting to lean anti-Obama. NC is something like -12 against him, and he carried the state in 2008.

The good news is Carter will take him along with him for his next summit with Hamas.
