A.P. Headline Turns Up the Heat

There are those who think that the “heat index” is just a way to make the temperatures sound higher than they are in order to help peddle the global warming theory, but the Associated Press has found a way to really inflate the number: Just take the Fahrenheit reading, mistake that for Celsius, and voilà… it’s a lot hotter:

Northeast braces for temps near boiling point

NEW YORK (AP) — The extreme heat that’s been roasting the eastern U.S. is only expected to get worse, and residents are bracing themselves for temperatures near and above boiling point.

Weather service heat warnings and advisories have been issued Friday from Ohio to Maine.

The high temperatures and smothering humidity will force up the heat indexes. Boston’s 99 degrees on Friday could feel like 105 degrees; Philadelphia’s 102 degrees like 114 degrees and Washington, D.C.’s 103 degrees may seem the same as a melting 116 degrees.

On the upside for you seafood fans, the oceans are apparently about to be loaded with freshly steamed lobster.

Milton Wolf has a screen-grab, but since the story has been unchanged for several days now, it may live on forever — or at least until cyberspace melts.

The good news is that, using the AP formula, this winter when it’s 10 degrees, it’ll really be 50 degrees.

Those AP fact-checkers must be preoccupied with digging into Sarah Palin’s next book or something.

I think I’ve seen the heat index used so much more widely now than before. I like that they use it because it indicates the true danger to elderly, children, etc. It’s just not scientifically correct to compare the two as some use it interchangeably it seems.

Correct. It’s not scientifically correct to compare the two.

Unfortunately, many reporters are truly ignorant about anything the least bit scientific.

Most of them are ignorant about a lot of things.

Not to worry! They obviously applied the “correction constant” developed by the Climate Research Unit of the University of East Anglia.

Maybe the New York Stock Exchange can use the same mathematical principle to “hide the decline”?

St Louis MO 1954…High 114. No heat index, direct thermometer reading, no air conditioning. Those were the good ole’ Ice Age readings.

It’s not so much that they are pushing AnthropogenicGorebalWarming here, rather that this reveals their scientific ignorance. Said ignorance allow them to fall for AGW.
