Romney Squares Off With Hecklers in Iowa

By Doug Powers  •  August 11, 2011 05:03 PM

If humans had the technology to instantly time travel from year to year, Mitt Romney could heckle himself given his flip-flops over time, but since Team Obama reportedly plans a “ferocious personal assault on Mitt Romney’s character and business background,” maybe they’re behind today’s little bit of fireworks. Who knows.

Ah yes, the campaign season is officially under way:

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s (R) exchange with a few hecklers turned into something of a shouting match while he was stumping Thursday in Iowa.

Romney faced aggressive inquiries with a liberal bent at the top of the question-and-answer segment of his soapbox speech, which was organized by the The Des Moines Register and broadcast on C-SPAN.

He also waged a defense of low taxes for corporations with a response — “Corporations are people, my friend” — on which Democrats quickly seized.
[...]
Democrats giddily circulated coverage of the comment; Democratic National Committee (DNC) communications director Brad Woodhouse emailed reporters an article about the remark with the subject line “BRUTAL.”

Rest assured the “corporations are people too” line has already been worked into t-shirt and bumper sticker designs and is on the way to the DNC printer as we speak. Selectively applied I’m sure the DNC might agree with Romney. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting is a corporation — are they people? The DNC is a corporation — are they people? Even Ben & Jerry’s is a corporation. People? You just know liberals would think twice before dehumanizing the folks who made “Yes Pecan!”

I didn’t hear anybody attacking Romney’s jeans here, so things are only destined to get uglier in the future:

Update: I changed the video source because the first one was glitchy.

That is what the primaries are intended to do, weed out the less desirable candidates so we don’t resort to crawling out on a limb. Its the open primaries in many states that seem to throw a wrench in the works.

Liberals rail on the big corporation. Well, lets just get rid of them all so we have no more evil. Of course, all those people who work there would also be gone. Are liberals saying all the people that work at corporations are evil or are they just talking about selected people at the corporation?

I guess liberals just plan on having the government take over the business so the people stay employed. Corporation or Govoration it would still be the same people.

A corporation does nothing. The people in the corporation do everything so he has a point.

He couldn’t live up to his own admonition, “Trust, but verify”, because once he was out of office there was nothing he could really do about successive administrations and CONgresses lack of interest in following up properly.

Even back in the late ’70′s when I had a summer job with a federal agency in the Los Angeles area, the office often temporarily transferred employees from the DC area to work for several months in the LA area, and even then, the DC transfers found it difficult to cope with LA area housing costs compared to what they were used to in DC on their DC scaled salaries.

He doesn’t think enforcement would be good for Texas as Gov., does anyone believe he’d favor enforcement as President? He’s another “compassionate conservative” when it comes to illegal aliens. My son (genuine natural born citizen) would have to pay out of state tuition to go to a Texas school, but illegal aliens get in state tuition.

I’ve already said I don’t want Perry to run, but let’s clarify this statement of yours. According to the legislation Perry signed, only students who have lived in Texas for at least three years prior to graduation from HS are eligible for in-state tuition. That does include illegals, which many, if not most, Texans oppose, but it also includes children of parents who have moved out of state as long as the child has continued to reside in the state (changed via SB1528, Sep 2005). The same rules apply for all applicants. If your son isn’t eligible, it’s because he isn’t/wasn’t a Texas resident, not because he’s a citizen.

In a properly functioning economy of low taxes with reasonable prudent and fair regulations, corporations provide lots and lots of good paying jobs and an expanding economy. The Obamacrats just don’t seem to get what makes the private sector grow, which is why we’re in the mess we are in…

… but Romney is a heck of a lot better than Obama.

Hey, Og, how do you define “heck of a lot”? I define it, in this context, by mashing my index finger against my thumb as hard as I can. It’s thiiiiiiiis muuuuuuuch.

Romney has a politician’s never-ending smiley-smile. He’s got his own version of John Edwards’ hair. He’s got a RINO’s resume. It appears the only thing he’s got going for him is that he’s not Obama. I won’t suggest that that’s not an improvement, but we need more from our candidates.

Romney couldn’t even beat Ted Kennedy. Ol’ (drunken lecher) Kennedy successfully nailed him as a flip flopper in the ’94 senate race. Even then, Romney had no solid principles he wouldn’t discard for expedience.

Romney was the conservative choice in 2008. Now, he’s the polar opposite. It just goes to show the attitude of the country and the rise of the Tea Party.

How business illiterate are these f’ing yokels. A corporation, just like a union, just like a partnership, are a legal entity giving people within these legal fictions certain rights and priviledges. JUST AS IN MARRIAGE, THE STATE (GOVERNMENT) GIVES YOU CERTAIN RIGHTS, AND IMPOSES CERTAIN DUTIES AND RESTRICTIONS. But people are the these entities, just as the left is so fond of saying, get rid of guns and we will be safe. Guns don’t shoot people, people with guns shoot people. This garbage only proves the point that these morons should not be allowed to vote on anything more important than DANCING WITH THE STARS.

Not to worry, every village has its idiot. So Iowa has its share.

BTW, a sign with this message on it is on someone’s front lawn in Atlanta:

“If you voted for Obama in 2008 to prove you were not a racist, then vote for someone else in 2012 to prove you are not an idiot”.

By default, maybe. There were 3 left in the race by the time VA voted, McAmnesty, Huckabee and Romney. Had conservative states gone first, Duncan Hunter would have been shown to be the conservative choice. The establishment could not let a no amnesty candidate emerge, just like this time.
