According to George Will, Obama is the 2012 Winner
**Written by Doug Powers
No, Will didn’t come out and say it that way, but in May he said with a fair amount of certainty that “one of three people” will be inaugurated as president on January 20, 2013: Barack Obama, Tim Pawlenty, or Mitch Daniels” (video below).
Daniels never ran, and Pawlenty dropped out this morning, so that leaves Obama. But we should keep in mind that Obama’s approval rating just fell below 40% for the first time, so I wouldn’t concede the 2012 election and congratulate the president just yet based only on George Will’s prediction — not that you would have been tempted to:
*****
Today Will said he doesn’t think Bachmann will be the GOP nominee. And maybe she won’t — but maybe she will. Just keep the above clip in mind as evidence that no pundit is infallible.
I’m only mentioning this because it’s an example of why Republicans should heed a line I’ve seen floated often in the conservative community: “Don’t let the media pick our nominee.” Being more of a right side of the aisle commentator, Will might not be “the media,” but he’s more in tune with reality than the average MSM talking head, and Will was way wrong on this one. And if Will was way wrong, how far off base might the MSM and other pundits be — the ones who, for example, already tout Mitt Romney as the presumptive GOP nominee?
Pay them little attention. “Don’t let the media pick our nominee” is great advice.

Mr. Will, give Dingy Harry a call, he has a secret, inside tip concerning the tea party to go on top of your prediction.
I’ve got a better one: “Don’t let the media pick ANY nominee.”
They are paid to have opinions. The fact that they are so often completely wrong and totally out of touch with reality is supposed to be irrelevant.
“Ignore the man behind the curtain…”
that is why palin winning the nomination would make heads explode right on live television. they don’t want obama to face somebody as plain spoken as palin, and they will do anything to make sure she does not get the nod. they would love ron paul, so they can make fun of him, like we are already.
Will was one of the many current “conservative voices” who worked against the candidacy of Ronald Reagan in 1980 and gave him no chance of winning. He may often articulate conservative issues well but when it comes to picking candidates, he likes conventional big government liberal country club Republicans. A Bush Democrat.
Forgot to include that I would give the odds of Obama being the nominee no better than 50/50 today. Lots of Democrats have opined recently that they should have picked Hillary in 2008. There is plenty of time to arrange that. Were she to announce a primary challenge, I believe Obama would drop out.
George Will is wrong.
Do you really want a republican to win in 2012? I say I’d like to have control in Congress to prevent bad court nominees and such, although with these republicans that is no guarantee. But, if the economy crashes and burns, I’d rather have O go down with the ship. The worst thing that could happen would be a republican taking office and presiding over a crash.
George Will usually is a remarkably astute and insightful writer, but occasionally he says things that show poor judgement. This prediction is an example of the boneheaded things that he is capable of. As an observer of political history, he must know that politics is full of surprises, and predicting the outcome of elections more than a year before they occur is a fool’s errand.
Will should stick to baseball.
11B, I think you make a good point.
13E
Take a hike Will . . . a really ling one.
Numbers 8 and 11, as we have found out in the past, there are no guarantees when it comes to Court appointments that are made for life. People can change and often do when they are bullet proof. We have to have a little faith. And the vetting process needs to be better.
My concerns, in addition to the courts, are all the political appointees at the heads of all our government agencies, Obama’s Executive Orders, his veto power and his influence over young people and the hack MSM.
He is a disaster and would have four more years to perfect his ability to be a disaster. It might take decades to undo all the damage that’s been done in the last four and-a-half years, two and-a-half under Obama, two with a Democrat controlled Congress and a compliant Bush.
The bleeding needs to stop as soon as possible.
What does Obama have to do to lose? Disembowel babies in Times Square and eat their livers with fava beans and a nice Chianti? George Will is clueless and/or has no understanding of what is in the minds and hearts of the working American right now.
When long-time Democrats are revolted by this pocket Marxist, you know he is done. He should , honestly, never have made it to the nomination in 2008, much less the White House. It should have been Hillary. Larry The Cable Guy could beat this preening clown.
I predict there will be a palace coup next year. Obama will not be the nominee. If he is, the Democrats will lose everything for a generation. How bout them apples George? I just did your job for you. Now go take a nap.
*Like everyone else, Will has a rectal orafice as well; Either that, or he is full of it!
*Still predicting by year end Hillary will be pitted against P-BO; His numbers are going to continue tanking, and the natives will become restless.
Neer has there ever been such a fine nomination since Pat Paulsen

Stick to picking World Series contenders George.
Yeah what he said, and while you’re at it, pick the Yankees to win the AL East.
Go Red Sox!
So far I have seen nothing to indicate that Obama will not be re-elected. If the republican party establishment has their way, he will run virtually unapposed just like last time. Plus, you will have the MSM working 24/7 to convince everyone that the only reason anyone opposes Obama is racism. I don’t believe Obama will face any credible opposition in the primaries. He is still the democrat’s messiah. It would be blasphemy to oppose him. If anything, it will be a looney lefty like Kucinich for the purpose of making our wannabe communist dictator appear to be a “centrist”.
We get 10 candidates say close to this msg, I’m not so sure.
That wouldn’t be enough for his more devoted followers. They would blame Bush and the teabagging terrorists for his actions.
..George love baseball so much; I rather suspect the old coot caught a high hard one in the noggin from crowding the plate.
We are crashing now.
I want a conservative Republican in office that will once again make decisions in the best interest of this country.
In some respects, this idea of avoiding being in office when a crash might occur is what got us into this mess.
The left took control and not only presided over a crash, but actively took steps to make it much more spectacular.
How many years have we been paying for FDR’s New Deal?
…or LBJ’s Great Society?
I agree. It needs to stop.
Repeal the usurped 16th Amendment …. And F*@# the Fair Tax too!
The trouble is, how do we pick our nominee for ourselves and not let the media do it for us? We don’t want the likes of Romney (or Gingrich or Huntsman) but how do we all decide who to line up for? Some like Bachmann, some like Cain, and others are hoping with all their might that Palin will jump in and in fact state they will vote for her in 2012 even if they have to write in her name. We all have the right to our own opinion and favorite candidate, so how do we target our energy and enthusiasm on someone in order to beat Romney? I fear that if our energy and enthusiasm is spread out over too many candidates, Romney will continue to clean up in the polls and unfortunately in the initial primaries (which people place way too much importance on, yet we seem unable to change this ridiculous system), and we will be stuck with him, unable to do anything about it.
Television political pundits are the modern day Miss Cleo, psychic extraordinaires. Ya mon. Maybe Obama is Miss Cleo. Always predicting the economy will turn around with millions of new green jobs. Hmmmm
I love Michele Bachmann. Her beliefs and policies line up with mine.
Or Phil. He’s still kinda excited about The Donald.
Regrettably Will hit it on the head and confirmed my months of dread. I just don’t see any real contenders in this current group. Too many conservatives think the whole country are closet conservatives that just need a champion to coax them out. I’m not into give-away-the-store/transform-into-your-opponent compromise, but it’s way better to cast a wide net and hook a lot of non-conservative votes than a “pure faith” niche net that only gives candyman O.B. 4 more years that will seal this country into irreversible socialism.
And believe me, the race card WILL be slyly played in spades by next summer to sway the fencesitters; “You won’t vote for him because a black man intimidates you”. Watch.

Eh, I once heard George Will say that Daniel Patrick Moynihan was his favorite senator, the guy who didn’t want anyone to touch the welfare system. I suspect Mr. Will has been inside the beltway too long to gauge the anger still seething out here in Flyoverland.
Taxation Purist! You’re helping to reelect Obama!
Little Barry Half Black sat on a wall, Little Barry Half Black had a great fall,
All his great spinnsters and all the MSM
Couldn’t put Little Barry Half Black together again.
George Will has long seemed like a center-left with a few Conservative views.
George Will is used to being wrong, it doesn’t bother him in the least, nor should we be concerned about his offt-wrong-opinions.
Who would msm vote for in ‘12? Their reporting is a subt(it)le hint. If you are somewhat attentive you can see who they are rooting for as a Republican challenger. In ‘08 they certainly squired McCain through to the nomination. If by chance their Messiah stumbled despite their all out effort, they wanted to be certain that at least they would have Messiah -lite in the catbird seat.
Unfortunately Fox News believes they are Kingmaker for Republicans – and they may be right. When the masses are so starved for any validation they cling to a lone voice that appears to champion their cause. Do not be fooled. They, with few exceptions, stand ready to acknowledge the ever recurring theme of “crisis action” whenever an important decision arises. Tarp, default, fast-track trade agreements and other important issues require fast action rather than deliberative, reasoned debate. The world will end if something isn’t accomplished within artificial time limits. Their inability to form or utter the name Ron Paul is certainly baffling and may be the initial sign of a journalistic malady that requires scientific analysis. They can recite a listing of candidates from 1 to 10 but somehow always leave out the candidate who places 2nd or 3rd each time. You may not agree with many of Paul’s stands – I differ on several – but Fox does not want a close look at his stand on issues, it might cause the electorate to analyze issues which is anathema to Fox’s political reporting. A political answer to issues is not a correct answer to issues. Fox will rail about tax minutia when what is needed is the scrapping of the entire tax code. There is never discussion of trade agreements just the politics of it. Presidents of both parties since Reagan have had a scheduled time to rant about China’s manipulation of their currency but nothing has ever been done about it (Bush, Clinton, “W” and Obama). Tariffs (for obtaining FAIR trade) are another word that never appears on Fox News in any analytical content.
When people realize that all media is “establishment” media and begin to analyze issues maybe some enlightenment will occur. Until then we allow George Will, Fox, O’Reilly and others steer OUR ship.
Out of curiosity, what is wrong with Romney? I, for sure, don’t want Perry.
Vox Day nails it here for you. Corporations are people or maybe not.
I used to be for Romney, but after thinking about it, I now back Larry The Cable Guy. LOL
4gotnblud, good comments. Many are starting to realize that we must be open to all avenues of ‘input’ (thank God for the internet) in order to make decisions.
I love/agree with what I heard last week on the radio – there are no Democrats any more if you look at the people in DC running the show. They are liberals or progressives. Democrat voters who think WDC is full of Zell Millers need to learn – ain’t so. As these voters become aware of this, it could increase the number of independent voters.
As an aside, many are learning that a person doesn’t have to love one’s country to run it. SNAP!
George Will does not speak for me nor does he vote for me. I’m sure there are about 52 million (plus) other people in this country that feels the same way as I do. Obama will not be reelected because of his record of unaccomplishments and tidal wave of new regulations.
“Law of predictions by predicting predictors”: Predictions shall be no sooner than five years hence, but no later than 10 years away, soon enough to be relevant to current events, but distant enough that people will forget if you are wrong.

Should be: No candidate outside the Beltway and not Ivy League or East Coast Academia educated warrents the support of the likes of Will.
Pundits need to learn from MM rather than Will. She stays in touch with America moving to Colorado. Meanwhile Will just hobnobs with the people in the same artificial bubble.
At least I understood what he said. Usually when I read Will, I need a thesaurus, a dictionary, and Wikipedia.
When he goes off using words that aren’t plain english and require any of the above, I find something else to read.

HI PASADENA_PHIL–#6. Good guess on Hillary being the Corruptocrat nominee for POTUS in 2012. She lost out to Comrade Obama in 2008 due to (1) running a poor campaign that failed to contest the Caucus states, and due to (2) the corrupt Democrat National Committee “super delegate” fix. Both overrode the democrat primary vote totals.
***
The Good Comrade will be thrown under the bus a few months before Nov. 2012 when internal polls show that He will lose. No way the number one problem–our actual high unemployment of about 20 percent–can be turned around in time to save the Messiah’s rear end. He just keeps shooting Himself (and us!) in the foot with bad energy and economic policies. And the Corrupocrats aren’t going to go down with His Titanic defeat quietly.

If you’re going to get a Democrat after the election, you might as well vote for the one who was already a Democrat before the election.

I don’t think I would go that far. Don’t forget that Democrats are all about “unity” within their ranks. A more likely scenario would be Hilary announcing a primary challenge, then being shot dead by a Chicago thug.
It’s the way of the Left.
RWR

Hillary will not supplant Obama. First, because Obama has a HUGE ego and would never admit mistakes and failure, let alone step aside. Second, because there is a timing in the election cycle. If Hillary were to do it she would need to be ramped up by about now. Since she is not set and ready to go, it would take her to long to get going and that would cost her. Third, no matter how bad Obama has been he still has a big following of people who actually approve of what he is doing.
The left has invested everything they have in Obama including money and political capital. I don’t see them backing off that investment.
Obama is their best chance. They have the money. He is a great fundraiser and speaker. They have a grassroots community organized and ready. He has a lot of unspent stimulus dollars ready to be spent in the battleground states. He has the power of the pulpit, the press, the minority vote. The Republicans are fighting among themsleves and declaring they will sit out the election if their candidate does not get the nomination. That’s a big factor in Obamas favor. I would not underestimate his ability to pull this off.
I think he’s staying out of this because the call is just too easy. There are only three teams presenting any kind of play quality worthy of the World Series, and two of them are in the same division.
Most people’s money is on Philadelphia, of course, and rightly so. When you have pitchers who can hit and position players who can pitch, you have a pretty solid thing going on. Add to that having four of the best starting pitchers anywhere in Major League Baseball, with the fifth starter a rookie who is pitching nearly on the level of the other four, and with a lineup that can hit and score runs from anywhere 1-9, and it just doesn’t look like much of a contest. 145-plus sellout crowds justifies the expense.
It’s always sink or swim around here. For the time being, Reuben Amaro, Jr. looks like a total genius, and Cliff Lee and Wilson Valdez look like Babe Ruth.
We Phillie fans don’t mind, though. Every now and then, you just have to go get one.

No man requiring a teleprompter to say the right thing can be called a great speaker. Say what you want about Bush. He spoke from the heart, even if you disagreed with him (as I often did), you have to acknowledge his mastery of the content (even if his pronunciation may not have been the best). Bush believed what he said, even when he was wrong, and made you know what he was about.
Obama lies, knowing all he has to do is read the words and look someone in the eye as he speaks. Take away his teleprompter, and you get the kind of honesty Joe the Plumber got – a totally different person.

Obama wins in 2012….
Um.. is this a surprise to any of you?
Defeatism will not win any elections. It will guarantee defeat. Thats like saying, we are going to lose the ballgame anyway so we might as well just not play the game.
Not only will we forfeit but we will all just switch to the other team.
Hey Ma, I thought you said it would stop itching if I didn’t think about it!
She’s not old enough to vote anyway. Just a baby playing grown up.
I am not a defeatist. I am a realist.
I’m also trying to wake people up to the foolishness they are supporting so as to minimize the chances we have to face defeat at the hands of an a$$ in elephant’s clothing like we have time after time. Most, if not all, of the candidates the Republicans are running are Scott Brown types. They will use the Tea Party for their own political victory, then turn around and misgovern as the Democrats they really are.
If you don’t recognize that the Republicans have already done this, then you will be contributing to the very defeat you are trying to avoid. In order to truly win, you will either have to purge the party of the liberals that are controlling it (snowball’s chance in Hell at best), or get conservatives to leave the party and build on other options (very late in the game for this, plus the nose-holders will not only accept the defeat, but call it a victory).
The solution here isn’t getting the most conservative Republican available, but rather the most conservative PRESIDENT available. Ain’t gonna happen in the current system.
Do I know how to get there for 2012? No, but I do know that what the nose-holders advocate won’t do it. I also know all too well what peril awaits should any of these clowns running gets elected.
We may well be better off with Obama. Look at how much better educated the populace is now than it would have been under a McLame regime. Tea Party? Would either have been heavily diminished or not happened at all due to a large number of Tea Partiers who held their nose and voted for the scum. The way things turned out, it’s going to be impossible for Obama to do anything of real substance BECAUSE OF THE TEA PARTY. It’s because of him that we now have a group actively working to reinstate the Constitution as the supreme law of the land and keep DC’s feet to the fire with regard to it.
The Tea Party WILL NOT win the upcoming election, even if the winning candidate is supported by the Tea Party, simply because the Constitutional supremacy the movement stands for is not strong enough in any of the candidates. Even Ronald Reagan would be grossly inadequate in today’s climate. That’s not defeatism; that’s just the truth.
Today, we need a Madison or a Jefferson.

C’mon you guys, Obama is clearly the best person to lead this country.
He has the kind of gifts that other politicians wish they had: bi-racial (so he doesn’t say stupid racist things), a smart wife (and she’s cute), good kids (not drunk like the Bush girls), charisma (don’t you just love his smile), lived in Asia (not like the idiots on the right who never left Texas or Idaho).
The guy is awesome. I still don’t know whay you folks have such a strong dislike for such a talented and handsome person.
Who would you rather see running the free world?
Yasser Arafat! Now STFU!
HAHAHA … I have finally seen the light.
ILMC is a SATIRE TROLL!!!!!
So let’s just have some fun as well!
I can’t think of anyone who has made stupid racist comments that even come close to those Obama made about his own grandmother… and then some.
Nancy Reagan was smarter, and at a comparable age, MUCH more attractive. Mrs. Obama is also the quintessential b!+ch, and as far as personality goes, the only worse public figures I can think of are Rosie O’Donnell and Hitlery Clinton.
Not really a huge fan of Bush in general, but if I had to bet, I’d say his kids would be more successful than Obama’s. Just a hunch, but I’m not wrong very often on this stuff.
Not really. If he were close enough to me and smiled at me the way he does, I’d probably punch him in the teeth.
Irrelevant except that the circumstances of his doing so are part of what is calling his eligibility into question. After all, there are places in Asia he traveled to that American citizens aren’t allowed to go …
The free world does not need anyone to “run” it. That’s the whole point of what the Founders were about. Government is evil and needs to be minimized at all costs. There is no need to have anyone “run” the “free world” if it is in fact free.
Just having a little fun with someone who has betrayed himself/herself a simple satire troll. Doing a pretty good job, though. I’ve had the pleasure myself, and it is truly a blast!

It ‘Will’ or ‘Will not’ be (pun intended)depending on just how BAD things will have gotten by next year when those who have supported Boehnor uber alles have to contend with the reality that his leadership has not only failed but also resulted in the GOP agreeing to things they said they wouldn’t-with the economy still a s@#tter.

This is a silly post, the date is from January when the media was making such a fuss over Mitch Daniels and Pawlenty was doing better than he did later on. Now it’s August and you are playing gotcha with the pundits. Why do they make predictions at all? because someone around the media table says, guess today what will happen. George Will does not have a crystal ball, give him a pass.

George Will is part of the establishment that he pretends does not exist. Unless we reject the estabishment choices for GOP nominee, Obama will win.

That leaves Bachmann and Cain. Pick one, I’m good with either, although I’d pay big money to watch Herman take Barry down in a debate. Plus he takes the race card away.

If you have casual or intimate relationship with the Constitution, Ron Paul is the only solution to this mess. The establishment’s only real plan for creating more jobs is to start more wars. (Sorry, “Kinetic Military Action” Barry. Didn’t mean to mis-quote you.) Control/Alt/Delete. We need a reset. Ron Paul is about freedom. Choose wisely.
George Will is right.
