What happened when Katy Perry tweeted “Pray for Israel”

By Michelle Malkin  •  August 23, 2011 03:27 AM

Katy Perry is a pop singer/songwriter who churns out annoying Billboard hits (“Firework,” “Teenage Dream,” “Hot N Cold”) that your tween-age kids love and you love to hate (yes, I speak from experience). She made news this week after tying Michael Jackson’s record of scoring 5 #1 Billboard hits off a single album.

She also made some little-noticed waves on Twitter that should be newsworthy.

In a response to a fan of hers on Monday, she tweeted:

Over the past 24 hours, all hell has broken loose — with Palestinian, Muslim, and progressive Twitter followers lashing out at Perry for her innocuous tweet asking others to pray for Israel. Here’s a small sample:

Many of her fans in Israel praised her for taking a stand. But alas, their praise was premature.

Late on Monday night, you see, Perry backed off. Pray for Israel? Neeevvver mind:

Not that she’ll be able to appease the unappeasable.

More from the peaceniks:

Baby, you’re a Dhimmi Work…

The most astonishing thing about Katy Perry is not her tweet, it is her relationship to Russell Brand!

I know the ladies like a guy with a sense of humour, but damn, THERE is a mismatch, to put it midly. Maybe Katy is doing what alot of females do with their other female friends – associate with one that is so much less attractive than themselves so as to make oneself seem so much better by comparison. Just saying.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people can come to terms that Israel is the “bad guy” in all of this. To these people, rockets fired indiscriminately towards populated Jewish civilian areas is not the problem, but Israel tageting militants and taking them out with smart bombs and missiles for surgical strikes are the problem. When you point that out to the likes of the Israel haters they like to come back with if the strikes were so surgical how come Palestinian women and children get killed. Of course they forget that the militants use these women and children as human shield just so they can then use their dead bodies as propaganda.

    I understand your point and a good argument is… well good ; – )

I know that many people hold this wonder of technology up as something sacred; I do not hold that view. ANYTHING that mankind has been able to survive for thousands of year without, is NOT a right. I include the modern definition of healthcare in this category as well. I suppose that is why we disagree.

As for innocent people loosing their Twitter because of the few, it is still no different when everyone in an apartment building is left in the dark, because they had to cut the power to deal with the hostage stand-off in #12B.

You said technology is not a “right”, but it’s here, dealing with it by shutting it down is what is wrong with our society. Instead of punishing the few who break laws, we punish the many. Reminds me of:

Think of the teacher with 3 rules and 30 kids. Of the 30, 3 will break the rules. So the teacher adds rules to refine/build on the basic 3, but still 3 kids act out. This does nothing to stop the brats, it just oppresses the good kids, who had no problem obeying.

I think “dhimmi” applies in the sense that she wouldn’t be the first celebrity to back off out of fear for her/his life. We’re speaking of people who butcher other people over cartoons, after all.

Note the comments about the thousands of Palestinian dead, while ignoring the dead innocents on the other side.

The only explanation I can see is that the Palestinian people have inherently more “value” than the Israelis, because these naiive folks think of them in the same sort of class warfare mentality they apply at home: Evil corporations (Israel) BAD!!! Downtrodden middle class (Palestinians) GOOD!!!

They willfully ignore that the Israelis offered these folks schools, medical care, education, the chance for a fuller, richer life. . .and they turned it down in favor of suicide innocent civilians.

Actually, belief that maintaining law and order on our streets by NOT interrupting an otherwise innocuous modern technology, that gets hijacked to do harm, and insisting that its function needs to be fully maintained at all times, is what is wrong with our society.

I think shutting down social media is preferable to tear gas, percussion grenades, and water cannons.

And the Religion of “Peace” Jihadis are only interested in the peace of the grave for anyone not converting to Islam. And they are willing to kill and die to achieve Allah’s supremacy. They will trade 100 innocent Islamic or Palestinian kids or civilians for a dead Jew or infidel–or for a 5 minute PR event video on the evening news.

Like Israel’s Premier Golda Meir said, “Peace will come only when our enemies love their children more than they love death!”

And that’s the reality–no deals for land, no surrendering free speech, aid, education, not praying, etc. changes anything. And when the Gaza Palis or the Lebanese Hamas terrorists start losing when Israel hits back against valid targets–they run to the U.N. to pull their sorry butts out of the fire. One day Israel will be forced to bring them their dreams of instant Heaven when the nukes fly.

My opinion about Twitter…I think it is a completely silly, mostly useless program. The only think it is good for would be in case of emergency, to keep in contact with your loved ones. Otherwise, the drivel that constantly fills the airwaves through Twitter is such nonsense, I am embarrassed for the human race, that we have reduced ourselves to letting all our friends know every time we have lunch, catch a cold, get unconstipated, you get the picture. Utter silliness. Sorry for those of you who Twitter. I just don’t see the value.
