President Zero; Update: White House runs away from costly EPA regs

Scroll for updates…Obama retreats from multi-billion-dollar EPA ozong regs…

Critics of cypher Barack Obama have been calling him “President Zero” for years. (See here here here here, for example.)

Now, the lib media is discovering just how fitting that moniker has been.

After today’s report of ZERO net job growth, the New York Times “reports” on the “demeaning” “new” label:

G.O.P.’s New Obama Label: President Zero

It took the Republican National Committee exactly 94 minutes to coin a new, demeaning title for Barack Obama: President Zero.

In an email to reporters, the R.N.C. took note of the worst job report in nearly a year, saying that there has been “two and a half years of Obamanomics and nothing to show for it.”

The monthly report, which showed a 17,000-job gain among private employers but no growth overall, provides Mr. Obama’s Republican rivals with the perfect opportunity to criticize him as they prepare to gather for another nationally-televised debate next week.

And it gives Mr. Obama an even more gloomy backdrop for the jobs speech he will give to a joint session of Congress next Thursday. In the speech, Mr. Obama is expected to call for a renewed national effort to put people back to work and trim the nation’s deficit.

It’s not a “new” nickname. It’s just been re-confirmed.

In response to the dismal zero-growth news and jobless rate stuck at 9.1 percent, President Zero’s Labor Secretary Hilda Solis told a cable news anchor this morning:

“I do feel like we’re going in the right direction…”

Right off the cliff…

***

More news/reax:

WSJ… “The U.S. economy failed to add jobs for the first time in almost a year, raising the odds of a return to recession and putting more pressure on President Barack Obama and the Federal Reserve to revive a moribund labor market.”

CNBC… “It was the first time since World War II that the economy had precisely net zero jobs created for a month.”

“Did I do thaaaat?”

Update: On Tuesday, Doug Powers noted that House GOP John Boehner sent the White House a letter flagging massively expensive, proposed EPA smog regs.

Today, the White House rejected the controversial ozone regs:

President Barack Obama on Friday asked the Environmental Protection Agency to withdraw a proposed regulation for ozone air quality standards, citing the nation’s wobbly economy.

President Obama, in a statement, said that by requesting withdrawal of the ozone regulations “I have continued to underscore the importance of reducing regulatory burdens and regulatory uncertainty, particularly as our economy continues to recover.”

A passenger enters a Kansas City Metro bus that warns of an Ozone Alert in Kansas City, Missouri, last month.

The EPA’s ozone rule has been among the more controversial regulations proposed by the environmental agency. Republicans and industry groups say the rule would be too costly to implement and lead to a slowdown in economic growth. Earlier this week, House Republicans said they would hold a vote this winter on a bill to prevent its implementation.

You might consider this another bow to Boehner.

The term PRESIDENT ZERO doesn’t even begin to do justice to this loose cannon on deck as He destroys our economy. Zero is a kind of neutral number–not good, not bad. Although capable of making things much better or worse as a digit holder.

I prefer the term COMRADE OBAMA for The Messiah. It explains why we are always taking it in the shorts with His bad decisions. Nothing neutral here–just bad to the bone for our country and economy.

I hope this 1 year delay in implementing more unnecessary but job killing EPA regulations includes the impending shutdown orders for lots of coal fired power plants. The damage from their shutdowns will be much more immediate than the longer term damage done by these unneeded ozone regulations.

President Obama, in a statement, said that by requesting withdrawal of the ozone regulations “I have continued to underscore the importance of reducing regulatory burdens and regulatory uncertainty, particularly as our economy continues to recover.”

    You lie,

President Barack Obama’s inaugural budget sets the stage for an expansion of the federal work force and for hundreds of new rules that would widen Washington’s involvement in the workings of private business…The Food and Drug Administration would get an additional $300 million in the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, the largest increase in the agency’s history…Mr. Obama is asking for $13.3 billion of discretionary spending to run the Labor Department, up 3% from fiscal 2009. The $400 million increase would boost enforcement of workplace-safety and wage rules, and pay for more staffers to ensure that businesses comply with equal-employment rules for federal contractors…The Internal Revenue Service would get an additional $400 million to beef up efforts to collect taxes…

    you big fat

When President Barack Obama took office, he directed the new EPA to kick-start the regulation process — nearly 11 months and 380,000 public comments later, the agency is now poised to regulate CO2 as a pollutant.

    lying liar!

FINANCE-On Wednesday, it was reported that Americans will not be allowed to invest in Goldman Sachs’ private offering of $1.5 billion in Facebook shares, in case the transaction would be termed improper by financial regulators. Foreigners will be scooping up the shares of an American company in a deal organized by an American securities firm, but Americans are excluded. How’s that for inefficient regulation?

DRILLING-Because the Interior Department stopped issuing permits after the BP well blew out in 2010, drilling in the Gulf of Mexico has ground to a halt, with 33 rigs idled, a decline of $1.8 billion in spending by oil drillers, and 23,000 workers unemployed or underemployed.

CARBON–The Environmental Protection Agency is insisting on regulating carbon emissions, even though Congress chose not to pass cap and trade legislation that would have achieved the same objective. This would raise the cost of energy for large and small firms alike, and would particularly harm energy-intensive manufacturing firms and the coal industry.

TAX COMPLIANCE–The health care law would require, beginning in 2012, that firms submit a Form 1099 to the Internal Revenue Service with names of vendors from whom they have purchased $600 or more in goods and services. This will impose new burdens on companies, such as having to elicit the tax ID of each of its suppliers, add up purchases, and submit the 1099 form.

GENDER–Consider the gender quotas in the financial regulation bill. It sets up 29 Offices of Minority and Women Inclusion, in the 12 Federal Reserve regional banks, the Treasury Department, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and other agencies, to make sure that financial firms and their subcontractors practice “fair inclusion” of minorities and women. “Fair inclusion” is to be defined by the directors of the 29 offices, and firms could be guilty of breaking the law even if no minority or female applied for a job.

OBAMA’S RECORD-Last fall 4,225 proposed rules were published…The Environmental Protection Agency alone lists over 340 rules in various stages of development.

Susan Dudley, director of George Washington University’s Regulatory Studies Center, notes “there are 183 more regulations underway now than last year at this time, representing a 5 percent increase in activity…The agenda reveals a 20 percent increase in economically significant regulations, or 40 more regulations with impacts of over $100 million under development now than at this time last year.”

People, don’t let him get away with saying this crap.

Thank you CO2! Those of us with facilities and keeping compliance records have been bombarded since mid July with calls and e-mails from EPA contracted compliance firms to warn us of the approaching reporting deadlines for CO2. It has been a nightmare and as I dove into it to get a handle on whether we were compliance I discovered all they did was take old estimated fugitive methane release calculations and call the values generated CO2 “equivelents”.

Methane as a green house gas, m’okay, not farting every 45 seconds is doable. CO2 as a GHG? try exhaling at the same frequency you fart. Its about the same damn thing for industry.

Just to clarify, certain things have changed already, such as the 1099 reporting requirement, which was repealed, but the point is that the requirement was signed into law in the first place. Initiating the regulations, then stepping back from them when they shouldn’t have been forced upon us originally, shows a pattern of shooting first then asking questions later. That’s not how government should be run.

Yes, we have to contend with globalization. It’s already here and we need to use our economic machine again to make it work for us.

I agree, there are opportunities out there to exploit. Americans are the most creative people out there.

We used to be the best civilization in history when we were just Americans living under Constitutional law. With less than 4% of the world’s population, we accounted for more than 30% of the world economy. Why don’t we go back to that? We just aren’t good at this globalization thing. No one is. It killed the Roman and English empires and it will kill ours too if we don’t wise up.

The tipping point is about the cost of gov. We are paying for failure in all forms. The failures of central planing are all around. How much more money would be available for disasters if the states held the money? How much money is wasted on salaries and office space for federal workers who dispense the money back to the states with strings attached. Mr. Zero will reduce us all to zero.

My guess is that Obama will do what he always does when he is cornered on a particular issue: change the subject. I don’t know if he can succeed on the economy this year but there is a major build up of US military going on in Afghanistan right now. I expect something big next year. We already know where the Iran nukes are. If we now know where the Pakistan nukes are, I expect that we will take both out and then pull out of Afghanistan and Iraq soon after. Are we ready for Obama the conqueror?

Why is Perrybush’s “conservative” Texas criminalizing childhood?

I don’t know but why is it so hard for Texans to see that if it weren’t for their state constitution, their state would already by worse than CA. The same things that ruined CA (illegal immigration, inflows of populations from liberal states and corrupt GOP) are destroying their state? Perrybush is a big part of that.

So stop bashing us CA conservatives. You are making the same bed for yourselves and CA, not being as parochial as TX, was not as unpopular around the country as TX is and will be. You will need all of the friends you can get in a few years.

Zeros for all! We are witnessing the total exposure of gov corruption. So many of our citizens have traded honor and integrity for sucking up to the powerful. The “I’ll scratch you back if you scratch mine” has placed the country in peril. All in the public eye have done this. Those running the banks, Wall Street, Hollywood, large corporations, Higher education and the Media have acted like groupies to the political elites. They all colluded to mislead the public. Now the fruits of their labors are being exposed for the frauds they all have been. I’m sick of hearing the CEOs now complaining that bho is anti-business. Why didn’t they see that? Because they thought they would be getting bennies from him and since that didn’t happen, they’re mad. Well, I’m mad too! At all of them for putting their own selfish interests above the welfare of the country. They all suck! This is what happens when those who think they deserve more or feel they can buy perks while sticking it to the rest of us. Watch for the “elites”, our self-proclaimed “betters” to reap what they have sewn. “All are punished”!

Bill Clinton should be learning a new appreciation for the Republican party because but for them goes he.

Of course that has not one thing in this world to do with all liberals being convinced that no matter how many total and abject failures they and their ideology suffers that they alone are the saviors of the creed. How are the grandly deluded ever to know?

    Case in point:

Economist Milton Friedman was testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee in favor of a national constitutional amendment for a balanced budget. Kennedy argued that a requirement for a balanced budget would restrict the federal government’s power and its ability to spend – thus, he said, Washington’s role in more fairly and equitably distributing wealth, goods and services.
“Senator, socialism hasn’t worked in 6,000 years of recorded history,” explained Friedman. “Why won’t you give up on it?”
Kennedy rose to his feet, according to Nuttle, who attended the hearing, and replied: “It hasn’t worked in 6,000 years of recorded history because it didn’t have me to run it.”

the New York Times “reports” on the “demeaning” “new” label:

I find myself in this position often. Given the fact every word coming out of The Left is deceptive and misleading obfuscation at its finest, we’re forced to either sarc tag or place in parenthesis their every head fake.

And it’s not unintentional! By overloading each sentence with numerous misrepresentations, we’re forced into a labor intensive drill of refuting and tagging them one by one and losing our intended audience. Or, debunk en masse and run the risk of being labeled ODS.

It makes the whole scenario prog-friendly as ratcheting up the energy level req. to confront also takes the emotional level up a notch. From there, we’re steps away from a shouting match. Their home turf.

Hmmm…thoughtful prose Marshall. It will get worse as zero sees even more electorate loses as we near the election.

    Pretty simple.

If Obama merely reversed himself 180 on virtually EVERY policy he truly believes in, then he’d make one of the best presidents in American history.

And if I had wings, I could fly to the store to pick up milk and bread.
