Chart of the day: Obama’s war on poor people

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 13, 2011 12:41 PM

If the trend in this chart occurred under the Bush administration, you know it would end up as a Koward Krugman NYT blog post under the headline “Bush’s War on Poor People.”

That is It. We are to share equally in the misery brought to us by Barky and his cronies. Of course some are and will be more equal than others.

As much as I agree that Obama’s policies are terrible for everybody, including the people who most fervently supported him in the last election, the nature of the numbers in this chart smacks of poring through data to find an analysis that tells the story you want to tell.

It’s too easy to argue against with the quote about lies, damned lies, and statistics.

Rambler you are so right. Everyone with an above room temperature iq knows that the only jobs being offered in the ghetto are hooking and selling drugs. The business world in this country is owned and run by wealthy investors, and they will go where they get the best return on investment. The american business model is permanently broken due to overregulation, overtaxation, and overlitigation. The second problem is that our kids are woefully undereducated and lazy. We will only get back into being a “business” country AFTER our economy blows up and we rewrite our constitution. Until then we will continue to be like Europe, an investor country. So wage earners, you better start learning to save and invest some of that money.

    I find your opinion puzzling.

The Y axis shows the percentile change in income. The x axis time in years.

Note the change at the start of the 2006 recession. In 2008, the last year of the BushPrsidency as the recession eases, the percent change goes back up. In 2009 and beyond it plummets.

There are several other economic graphs that will correlate to this graph.

He doesn’t care about the poor. He wants to enslave the poor with dependency on government and no hope for escape. He is also waging war on the middle class by destroying jobs through endless regulations and now tax hikes. You can’t cure an anemic economy by draining money from the private sector and feeding it to a rapidly growing government tapeworm!

Hey, I AM “collateral damage” as the Jackass Party (their symbol) and their social engineering has already destroyed my industry. Jackass-In-Chief, through assinine policies that are supposed to protect the people, IS creating a whole new sub-class of poor folks (those whose jobs were destroyed by Jackass policy) dependent on government. As stated above, this is true Cloward/Piven/Alinski policy. So Jackass-In-Chief, and his Jackass Party, has been a suck-sess.

The stereotype is that the Democrats are the party looking out for the interests of the poor people, while the Republicans look out for the interests of rich people. If both parties are interested in maintaining their political power, it is in their best interest to create more of those individuals whose interests they are serving. It appears that BHO is succeeding beyond our wildest imagination.

Obama’s policies, or should I say the policies of the people who pull his strings, are responsible for the ongoing carnage against the poor, sadly, most of them, poor inner-city blacks. Perhaps I could encourage a new “chant” for the supporters of the leftist, Democrat Party of enlightened neo-liberals:

    “THIS-IS-WHAT-SLAVERY-LOOKS-LIKE!”

As you know, some of the first slave owners in America were in fact, black slave owners that owned farmland. The only difference I can see with Obama, is that he doesn’t physically “own” them, like chattel, but, he “owns” them, none-the-less, at least in a metaphysical sense!

My point is that if you showed that graph to the people it describes, they would get lost in the very title of it. Quintile? % Change in Income? All most people would see is a jagged up-down-up-down line and some dates. You have to really look at it and think carefully about it, which goes beyond the desire of 80% of Americans for whom American Idol is intellectual discourse.

If you want to show them something that they can understand, ask them how much of their income they spend on gas and food and housing every month, compared to 3 years ago. Ask how much of a raise they’ve gotten in the last 2 years.

The chart is true and shows the devastation, but nobody feels the devastation deeper than in their wallets.

I took the chart and manually input the percent change rates (approximated) into a spreadsheet, with a starting income in today’s dollars of $1000, just because it’s a nice round number. Because President HopeyChange keeps talking about how he inherited Bush’s economy, I attributed the first year of a presidency to the policies of the previous president. Here’s how the net increase/decrease of each president’s time in office came out for the poor:

Johnson (don’t have %change for all years of his term) ended at $1110.

    Nixon: +10%, ending at $1217
    Ford: -1%, ending at $1210
    Carter: -3%, ending at $1172
    Reagan: +13%, ending at $1319
Bush I: -8%, ending at $1215 (worst chg)
Clinton: +15%, ending at $1392 (best chg)
GW Bush: -6%, ending at $1311
    Obama: -6%, ending 1st yr at $1232

Depending on how you present them, statistics can be misleading. Like Johnson, however, we don’t have data on Obama’s full term, so we have no way of knowing how bad his policies will score.

It might be easy to think that things can’t get worse for the poor, but only in America do our poor have an obesity epidemic and have a Wii, PS3, VCR and/or DVD player.

I don’t think people understand how bad this can get it and we are headed full speed ahead in that direction.

From my perspective, and several others here, who have traveled out of the country, people aren’t poor here.
Poor is when you live in a shack without running water. Poor is when you can’t feed your family everyday.
These are really people in poverty not the poor, but to hear it from the left the poor and poverty are equal. I think it’s to confuse everyone including the poor.
If you need a place to live in the US, you can find a government program or a charity to fill that need. If you need food you can get it.
I’ve been places that the poor there would think themselves well off if they were poor in the US.
