Who’s Up For Another ‘Jobs’ Bus Tour?

By Doug Powers  •  September 14, 2011 04:43 PM

From CNN:

Senior administration officials say the president will be making his case for Congress to pass his jobs plan for much of the rest of the year, taking his message outside Washington as he has in recent days, visiting Virginia Friday, Ohio Tuesday and North Carolina Wednesday. The push will include another bus tour, though it is not yet scheduled, officials say, and will target regional media, including local radio stations, with ads. The president will travel to non-battleground states to make his case for “The American Jobs Act,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said Monday, though officials won’t yet say which non-swing states he will visit.

“Will travel to non-battleground states” is easily crackable code for “taxpayers are going to pay for it again.”

not so fast, it seems i wasn’t the only thinking about this. Louie Gohmert decided, since obama has not presented his bill, he made his own with the same name. so if they do in fact pass gohmert’s bill, and obama veto’s it, how will that look? but gohmert’s bill has no tax increases, but lots of good stuff republicans will like, and it is only two pages long.

I only noticed two legislative items: 1) drop the corporate tax rate to 0, and 2) reduce the corporate AMT rate to 0. It would have been even better if he’d just eliminated the AMT altogether, because it hurts small businesses. But there’s plenty of time to amend it.

Yep, it is so popular that at least one portion of the bill is causing bi-partisan disaproval of it:

Yesterday, it was announced that an astounding 1 in 6 Americans are living in poverty. President Obama’s response? To demand a tax on donations to soup kitchens and other charities that help people desperately in need. The President’s proposal will impact approximately 40% of all the tax deductible contributions, and essentially penalize soup kitchens, hospitals, and churches that provide essential services to those who need them most. It’s no wonder this tax hike has been rejected on both sides of the aisle.

Of course the more he goes on talking about the job-killing bill the quicker the dissaproval numbers will increase for it.

This taken from a private journal of a staffer aboard Jobs Bus Tour, Part Duex:

Tuesday 7:45am – Got another late start. You’d think the President was about to give a speech as tardy as he is.

Tuesday 11:38am – Somebody mixed up the bus driver’s maps and accidentally slipped in the Big O campaign logo. The driver thought it was the route so we spent hours driving around in a circle. Oh well – we have to have a union driver.

Tuesday 2:15pm – that was a difficult speech. Had a hard time finding people to stand behind dais and not flip off the President. Maybe we need to change format. Near disaster – TOTUS almost committed suicide. Fortunately, we had the electronic crisis czar on hand to talk him down.

Tuesday 9:30pm – a long day but now comes the best part. The daily compliments. We are all lined up. Oooohh, Samuel got his head patted. I hope the President allows me to breathe his exhaled air for 20 seconds and says, “Larry, I really like the color of your eyes”. Oh, if I could be so lucky…
