Video: Perry’s cringe-worthiest debate moment

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 23, 2011 12:08 AM

This is a gimme. Seriously.

I mentioned Rick Perry’s DREAM Act debate blunder in my round-up post.

It gets second place.

The cringe-worthiest moment, by a hair, was when Perry botched what should have been his most potent attack on Mitt Romney’s chronic flip-flopping. As I noted on Twitter when it happened, any random high schooler at the CPAC conference in Washington could have done better than this.

If this is how Perry’s going to take Obama on in debates, we’re in trouble. Someone inject him with some Red Bull and a dash of Herman Cain’s personality.

Video thanks to The Right Scoop. The lackluster stumbling starts at around 1:28 into the clip:

Transcript:

PERRY: “I think Americans just don’t know sometimes which Mitt Romney they’re dealing with. Is it the Mitt Romney that was on the side of…against…the Second Amendment before he was for the Second Amendment…was it was..before he was before these social programs, uh, from the standpoint he was standing, uh, for Roe vs. Wade before he was against Roe, uh, Roe vs. Wade…uh…he was…uh for Race To The Top…

Uh…[pause]…he’s for Obamacare and now he’s against it…I mean, we’ll wait until tomorrow and, and, and wait to see which Mitt Romney we’re really talking to…

He should have gone for the jugular. He spent more time juggling and fumbling his words with a bizarre, half-hearted attitude. Get your points down, man. It’s easy if you try.

***

Perry said he’s in favor of making English the official language of the U.S. Perhaps he should concentrate on mastering it before the next debate.

Ann Coulter tweets: “Governor Perry losing debate with his own tongue.”

    AAAaand uhhhh aand uhhh…

Also I have to say the statement about shovel ready jobs and dogs was plagiarized. Rush said the same thing on his show today. I don’t know if that was original on his part but I KNOW he said it on the radio and it was ‘lifted’ by the former NM governor.

I’m sure someone else has mentioned this in another thread on the debate but I haven’t seen comments on that thread so I made the point here.

I like a lot of what Perry has had to say and and much of what he has been able to accomplish as Governor of Texas. But he jumped the shark as far as I am concerned when he justified rewarding illegals with in state tuition. He’s way too weak on illegal immigration. I can’t support him.

Mr. Perry can cram that mac ‘n cheese up his backside if he thinks the children of illegal aliens can’t go back to their native country and get their education there. The universities there are probably better anyway.

So imagine a Romney v Obama debate–it would be like a 15 round boxing match. No need for anybody to ask any questions, just give each of them a list of the other’s flip-flops, the things they were for before they were against ‘em and the things they were against before they were for ‘em, let ‘em put on the gloves and go for it. By the end of it, we won’t know what either of them stands for. Of course, I don’t know how good Obama will do trying to dance around his flip-flops, cuz, uh, well, he’ll be wearing them.

He does not understand that although they are sweet kids, they are not Americans and they are here illegally. Their parents bear the responsibility for that fact. It should be enough that they are being allowed to stay in the country and actually enroll in school.

In case you’ve forgotten, going into the armed forces is VOLUNTARY. Nobody forces you to be a soldier. The mission of the military is to destroy the enemy, kill as many of them as efficiently as possible, with as little cassualties of your own as possible.EVERYTHING that gets in the way of that should be eliminated. DADT was there for a reason: homosexual activity gets in the way of the mission. As a matter of fact, any fraternization ‘in country’ gets in the way of the mission. Call me old fashioned, but the military shouldn’t be used as lab rats for social experimentation. It gets in the way of the mission.

Yes it was wrong to boo the soldier. The question I now have though is that soldier going to face disciplinary action for participating in a political event while in uniform (he was wearing the standard issue Army PT Uniform in the video). The Military does not allow the wear of military uniforms at political functions as it could be missrepresented as the military is taking a side. The soldier had every right under the 1st ammendment to ask the question (and he should have been treated with respect regardless of ones beliefs on the question), but he should not have been wearing the uniform.

Straight people do not have to hide the fact they’re straight. Men in the service can admit to having a wife or a girlfriend, for instance. If they weren’t allowed to do this, I think they would reasonably be irritated, but that wouldn’t mean they weren’t good soldiers or that they had a pro-heterosexual agenda.

Actually, it’s not that he wasnt sure if he liked either, its that he probably had to take time top put his finger in the wind to determine which party would give him more traction in politics.

-If you’re legally blind, you shouldn’t try to be a sniper.
-If you can’t swim, you shouldn’t try for the SEALS.
-If you’re a racist jerk, you shouldn’t be in the military. You’re bound to bump into people of other races.
-If you can’t stand the sight of blood and guts, you shouldn’t try to be a medic.
-If you’re flamboyantly or openly gay, and you knew about DADT, you shouldn’t complain when they kick you out.
-Like I said, ANYTHING that gets in the way of the mission should be eliminated.

Now that they’re a “protected class”, we’ll see the corrossive effect of gays being sexual with each other on board ships and ‘in country’. The leftist jihad against our military continues.

Well said and I agree. The military is no place for social experimentation and, yes, an openly gay person who “comes on” to a straight person could create an environment that threatens good order and discipline. Remember, the military live in close quarters, especially in a war zone.

I do not need to vote for a Republican if I want to support illegal immigration (which includes taxpayer dollars paying for their education). YOU HAVE LOST MY VOTE IN THE FLORIDA PRIMARY. I do *not* want any “BS” response (I’m originally from Washington, DC and worked in the Federal Government for 12 years), AT A MINIMUM a full admission of error for this akin to your public Gardasil statement. Dream Ticket or Nightmare Ticket. Depending on one’s POV.

Both deemed traiters to their respective gender and race by the Left, which, in response, would go nuclear and sink to the lowest depths of depravity to destroy them.

The military discriminates against people all the time. If you are disabled, sick or pregnant or too obese to pass PT, you don’t get in.

The idea behind DADT was to allow gays to serve without compromising soldier morale.

Regardless of what your personal views on gays are, the military has never been nor ever should be the place where social engineering is experimented with.

Now, in the case of the civilian population, I don’t think the GLBT folks should hide who they are, but given all parades and riots surrounding the issue, self-expression doesn’t seem to be one.

In case you haven’t noticed, there are people out there trying to kill us and we need the best advantage we can get.

I could care less how it makes people feel.

I just sent Perry a email indicating that if hardworking taxpayers like me who expect our laws against illegals to be enforced are “heartless” then he goes “voteless” in my house and I will spread the word about what a creep and a fraud he actually is. sounds like Jorge Booshe II to me, and that’s horrific.

The Merck nonsense is enough to make Perry go voteless from me, and I like that term.

Perry is concerned with getting the Hispanic vote, hence the stance on immigration.

Of course, if certain Americans would get up off their butts, turn off American idol and put the cheetos and get a life, you know, have kids and a family, we wouldn’t have these kinds of concerns with immigration.

I have no idea what your situation is at home, and I’m not asking, but more often than naught, the same people who whine about their community getting filled with diversity or immigrants (yes that includes numerous liberals) are the ones who think they can party until they drop dead at 95 and get a pension and social security to boot.

I saw sacrifice up front, not only by the person serving, but by families and children. It was MY privilege and I am honored to be among them. I also worked with many civilians who kept the faith, love their country, and made many sacrifices.
