Mooooderate GOP Governors’ Club: Christie to endorse Romney

Not that it’s any surprise.
Back in May, Gov Chris Christie gave Romney cover after his Obamneycare walk-back speech. In May 2009, Romney campaigned for Christie in NJ.
Now: Just making it official today:
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, just one week after definitively announcing he will not run for president in the 2012 race, plans to endorse Mitt Romney for the job Tuesday afternoon, Fox News has learned.
The event is set to take place in Hanover, N.H., the site of the Republican presidential debate being held Tuesday night. The endorsement will be made in advance of the debate.
Marking a fast turnaround for Romney, the endorsement comes one week to the day since Christie called a press conference in Trenton to end once and for all the speculation that he would make a late entrance into the race.

In modern speak, “moderate” means left-leaning Democrat running as a Republican.
cain is looking better every day!
Gads, now I know why I did not like christie! I hope to goodness romney is not our choice to vote against bho in 2012. Rush has been giving a great job today about romney and the fact the d’s and good ole boy r’s want him for who we ‘need’.
L
Agreed.
I’m just afraid for when the RNC and the GOP will do everything they can to tear him ru
Herman Cain 2012 with a strong foreign affairs VP like John Bolton would be a winner for me.
Ann Coulter denies saying we must have Christie as the nominee because only he can defeat Obama and Romney in 5..4..3..2..
It takes a RINO to endorse a RINO.
Oh you can count on it. The RNC and GOP leaders loathe outsiders like Cain. He, like Regean, will have to win on a groundswell of the public’s support. Romney is still the establishment’s golden boy with Perry as plan B, as a fallback candidate, probably.
Yes we Cain in 2012!
I’m not concerned about a political pipsqueak getting endorsed by a fellow political pipsqueak whose self-image is more bloated than his actual image. What bothers me is the media’s insistence that Romney has it sewn up.
Don’t discount Cain. He will win the nomination. And he will win the White House.
I’m Andy Hefty, and I approve this rant.
RINO 1 endorses RINO 2. Nothing to see here.
I like Romney. He seems to be the most Pragmatic of the nominees. He gets beaten up for that; for being a flip flopper. I don’t like purely ideological politicians. Leading from a pure ideology stance can get messy when variables get in the way. Sometimes you need to adjust. I think a pragmatist will recognize national debt and the economy are the two most important matters. Romney also has degrees in both Business and Law.
I’m no easy vote though. Whoever I vote for is going to share a majority of my beliefs on running the government. I have been very impressed with Cain, Newt lately hasn’t been bad either.
Since Bachman has lost traction;
!!Go Cain!!
Oh, and let’s not forget the never-did-much, moooooooooderate Mel Martinez endorsing the political pipsqueak known as Mitt Romney.
Oooooh… I’m scared. Really scared.
/sarc off
Well, it looks like I lost a C-note on that bet. I thought for sure Chrisie was going to back someone like Al Gore because of his global warming stance…
I am sorry to say this but why, when I see most of the Repub hopefuls running for president – I see Obama in White Face.
If you want to stop Romney and nominate Cain, you’d better start getting busy. As Rush also pointed out today, Romney has started boosting Cain for the simple reason that he thinks that Cain’s lack of money and an organization will make him easy to beat.
Since Bachmann’s candidacy ending retardation gaffe, I’ve been looking for an electable candidate, so this seals the deal for me.
Yes We Cain!
Sorry to be O/T, it looks like holder is trying to take the heat off him, he will be on the tube in a few minutes saying the US has stopped a ‘terrorist plot’? F&F will be off the radar? Not if Issa has anything to do with it!
L
I had to hold my nose in 2008 and Sarah was the only virtue on the ticket. The way the RNC and many in the “conservative” media are forcing Romney down our throats I don’t want to require a barf bag in 2012.
I am on the Cain train!
re: photo at top of article
only a donkey would stand so closely behind another donkey.
If anyone is confused about what just happend, here is an educational video.
White rhinos mating.
Romney is a tad too left for me. Perry was looking a bit better until his lack of religious tolerance was found out last week. Cain with a really strong foreign affairs vp is sounding pretty good right now.
Although, I can plug my nose again and vote for anybody but Obama.
Looks like Christie did us a favor by pulling out. Now I’m REALLY taking a look at Herman Cain!
The RINO herd is become more uneasy.
They sense real danger…… and they should.
Hang on that C Note. Romney believes in man made global warming.
Romney is American Traditional, right of center, you have to look at what he did in MA and the liberal reaction to it in MA, and not at the health insurance law, which made liberals here livid.
They were not simpering and saying with false flattery that they liked it then, liberals were afraid it was cheaper and would work. Liberals here wanted Euro style Single Payer for everyone, and basically Medicaid for everyone, it was crazy and had to be stopped. There was nothing for people to buy to cover themselves, because all the insurance was by and for big companies, and the insurance companies just didn’t need the business of the 8% of the people that didn’t have insurance. MA regulated health insurance long before Mitt Romney showed on the scene, and he suggested that they relax the rules for smaller policies, the opposite of Obama Care, these policies sometimes had $30K caps on them, not the $750K policy coverages that Obama’s plan has that is requiring waivers all over the country.
Mitt turned around Massachusetts after the dot.com crash which affected the primary industries here, finance and high technology, and 911, which hit the state as well. I don’t know who the people are that think Mitt is a moderate, but it seems they have an agenda. If you ask any truthful liberal or democrat here, they think he is a right winger. He can cut government at the federal level as far as he has the conservative legislators in the House and Senate to back it up. Restructure government. So, if you want to be really bored, and not have anything to worry about, read Mitt’s 57 items. Dull! boring! not evangelical enough! I want to hire Romney…and like in MA when he was Governor, I bet we get him to work for free.
And a little randy.
Birds of a feather…
CAIN/BOLTON 2012
His position on man made global warming is not indicative of a conservative. I might also add it shows a dangerous lack of knowledge regarding basic science.
His position on illegal immigration is not indicative of a conservative.
His position on healthcare is not indicative of a conservative.
Perhaps to a MA Liberal he appears to be a right winger, but they do not provide the measuring standard for the people on this blog.
His promise to grant all states waivers on Obamacare to me is merely a ploy. A waiver is a delay. I have no confidence that he would ever eliminate Obamacare. He embraces the principle.
Mitt Romney is a political opportunist! I’ve seen weathervanes more rooted in their beliefs! Right-winger my Aunt Fanny!

I remember well calling MA during that time. It was in my territory. The sentiment in the biz community was dreary to say the least. In fact bus. owners often said, Will the last one leaving Mass..?
Assuming what you’re sharing about Mitt heading off a broader debacle in MA on HC, why hasn’t he been more vocal in his own defense? Just curious.
If the Republican Party stupidly rams Mitt Romney down America’s throat, I will not hold my nose again and vote Republican. I’ll write in GOOFY first!?!
GOOFY would be better than the Jackass-In-Chief we’ve got now, but Romney, absolutely not (again)!?!

I’m with Deaux et al here. Bachmann appears to have jumped the shark. I’m going with Cain. Better chance here in GA anyway. He’s the home town kid.
Yup we Cain! And he IS electable.
Sure it is. His position is that it exists, probably in a minor way, and that position may or may not be philosophically conservative, but his position on what we should actually do about it is supremely conservative: Until we know it is a real problem with catastrophic consequences it would be idiotic to take catastrophic actions to prevent it.
Of course it is. Name one Governor who has taken actions on illegal immigration more conservative than his.
Talk is cheap. Governors have had to actually deal with the problem.
Sure it is. You won’t see anyone but conservatives citing the 10th Amendment to stop nationalization. Only conservatives actually oppose single payer.
So you do not trust him. That’s good. You shouldn’t trust Cain, either. You should never trust any politician.
Well surprise, surprise, surprise. One NE RINO endorsing another NE RINO. I NEVER saw that one coming. Here’s hoping that RINO’S are placed on the endangered species list very soon.
Jan Brewer. Duh.
So the endorsements begin, who cares?
(At least it does make sense about this one.)
You sure? What did Brewer, herself, actually do? Did she fight with the legislature to get tougher laws on illegal immigration than they otherwise would have done?
Cain supporters, if you/we want him to win the primary, the dude is going to need money. Pretty soon/yesterday? we will need to pony-up.
Fleuries
Thanks for the post and the info. Please remember that a flaming liberal in some states is a staunch conservative in others. (-:
That said, I haven’t heard Romney say anything that sounds great for the West with regards to illegals.
I think he is a genius with regards to turning businesses around (saw him work the Olympics) but his social policies make me leary.
Herm’s the one!

Never got the chance. The Obamastration stepped in and threw every roadblock/Dept./Czar they could muster? Passing a tough illegal bill at the state level is the only way I know to get fast-tracked to the SC.
I believe Mitt Romney just lied on national TV. He said that Rick Perry was introduced by a Pastor who called the Mormon religion a “cult” and then Rick Perry got up and thanked the Pastor and told him he hit it out of the park. Mitt said there is no place for that kind of rhetoric in politics. Or something like that.
In case Mitt didn’t know…that cult comment was NOT in the introduction to Perry…it was a later comment. So either Romney didn’t know that, or he is lying. I can’t believe he didn’t know that.
I see slander being done everywhere these days. It doesn’t seem to matter what lies are told about people…they apparently are repeated and repeated even long after they have been refuted. This makes me sick! Whatever happened to honor and honesty? It is a lost virtue and will lead to our downfall. If you can’t believe anyone, there will be no trust, and without trust, we will continue to hate.
Mitt Romney needs to go on record and clarify that statement, as it slanders Rick Perry.
Seems like a herd of RINO’s is forming.
If Romney gets the nomination, I will stay home. No since in wasting time voting for another socialist. I will support the coming civil war.
2007-8 all over again! Conservative candidates split their votes and one moderate–with a minority of GOP support—takes the nomination. And the GOP Establishment sh*t-eaters win again.
PS–We are getting a taste of the Obama campaign strategy for the candidate he wants to run against, today. Romney’s health plan was the MODEL for the Obama healthcare fiasco?!
Next, after Romney wins the nomination?
The Left has been piously trashing the Texas Governor and his preacher for the preacher’s use of the word “cult” in re Romney’s Mormonism …..
…but the Left WILL see to it that every American knows what the Mormons believe, after Romney wins the nomination:
1. Jesus isn’t “God” as we Christians know it…..(BTW, calling yourself Christian while denying the diety of Christ IS a bit cultish)
2. Public-school-educated Americans will suddenly know all about the doctrines of “Blood Atonement”, justifying murder of rebellious Mormans…
3. The concept that “good Mormons” get to be the Father-God of their own universe some day……..
Its nuts, and the MSM will make SURE to get the message out, both to repel independents and to dishearten the Christian base of the GOP.
Careful, you don’t want to spook Christie; he may charge our Land Rover.
Yawwwnnnnn … Zzzzzzzz ….. let’s wait and see what happens when the actual voting begins … and I dunno, am I the only one sick ‘n’ tired ‘n’ fed up with two year presidential campaigns? I think we need just plain old campaign reform.
Just so the MSM can push him and point to the widespread support he enjoys.
Hell, I went into Home Depot over the weekend and they have the Christmas crap out already.
Absolutely GK. Already have. I was supporting Bachmann, but swiched to Cain as of this month.
GladzKravtz is right, all. Talk is cheap. Ante up.
Hey Folks,
Try not to get too excited, but it doesn’t matter who you run – Obama will crush them.
And, it’s not called “Yes we Cain in 2012!” – it’s called “Yes We Can”.
Did any of you ever hear the one about the fat blowhard and the Mormon?
It’s pretty funny.
More of a reason to support CAIN!
I’d like to see the LameStreamMedia dance around the question of Mormonism and Romney, since the Senate Majority leader is a Mormon, as well. Reid would disavow any knowledge of Mormonism (sell his soul to their “devil”) just so the Demonuts would win. And I do mean DEMONuts.
Are you the butt of the joke? Are you the fat blowhard? If you are, then I’d like to hear it. Otherwise, no thanks.
PLEASE PLEASE EVERYONE!! DO NOT STAY HOME!! GO AND VOTE FOR CONGRESS FOLKS. If we don’t get the POTUS we want, we can at least take over the Congress. Good grief…stay home? I get pretty annoyed when I hear this, as you can tell!!
*I’ll be meeting Herman Cain this Saturday for breakfast; Really looking forward to it; Been sending him coin since before he entered the race: Romney is not only the establishment pick, he is the fall back pick for those Demoprogs that have peeled off of P-BO; And that is a bad omen for our beloved Republic; Please people, stay invovled to win the day over the same old same old.
*Cain/Newt in 2012!
*Or, the Cain Newtandme of 2012!!!
to ILMC: I hope you will have a good supply of diapers on hand for when Republicans take the WH, Senate and House in 2012. You are sure to have an “accident”. In fact, maybe your head will explode and we won’t have to listen to your asinine comments any more.
You can switch back to your porn site now.
Cain….Fine.
Newt….Nyet.
+1000
you mean they wrote a joke about your life?
Huh.

Are you joining us via smartphone from your Occupy Wallstreet location?
My humble recommendation.
I like Bolton as a Secretary of State in a Herman Cain administration. With a Republican majority in the Senate, he stands a better chance of confirmation.
DeMint would likely stay in the Senate where he would have more influence. Although, as VP he would also be the President of the Senate and would cast tie-breaking votes. He just won another term in ’10 and an early departure would open that seat to a potential Dem replacement.
*Just being pragmatic; Newt gives Cain experience to navigate the swamp that is DC, which will be needed.
Roger that. Maybe Newt can be Herbert’s Chief of Staff.
Hermain Cain is my choice thus far, but I expect even him to disappoint me someday. Politicians are corrupt. Period.
Happy- absolutely agree with you on staying home. People are crazy to!
I agree with Romney re: Perry. Perry was asked AFTER the fact about the pastor and he never berated him, distanced himself, nada. I was disgusted. I got the impression Perry wasn’t too interested in doing so=no religious tolerance IMHO.
If people want to bash other people’s religion the least they could do is research it beforehand. Some of the most ridiculous lies have been coming out since that Pastor called the LDS church a ‘cult’.
Did ILovepluckmytoehair’s mom just step out?
Apparently she forgot to give him his evening dose of psych meds. He’s delusional again.
What’s wrong with believing another religion is a cult? In most cases, people believe in a particular faith that claims to be THE one way (you know, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. NO ONE comes to the Father EXCEPT through me.” – Jesus John 14:6).
All I ask is that they don’t prevent my ability to worship as I see fit. Other than that, they can believe whatever they want.
WWIT? I meant Herman, not Herbert. Sheez……
*Not a bad idea; Newt is one sharp cat, except for sitting on a couch with a she devil!
Cain is the one
“Moderate” means “Marxist” in newspeak.
I like Christie – only as a fiscal conservative (he’s a Marxist in his other political positions) and here he is endorsing a full blown Marxist.
Romney needs to be voted down big time by rank and file Republicans, because the Marxists will overwhelmingly vote for him in the primaries, and then we have no choice again in the general election: Marxist vs Marxist.
I guess I will explain more for Flyoverman, who is not very specific, and also incorrect in debating me on my post. And also Marshall will, I will get to your answer too, in this post or my next one.
1. Mitt Romney was asked about global warming in a setting in NH that made sound bites that sounded like he was in with the global warming crowd. Sarah Palin has said the same thing, we see changes in the environment, that is what some people are calling climate change, but we don’t know what it is, Romney said man affects the environment. Romney’s policy is that no one should be throwing money at this supposition, and he is not in favor of Al Gore’s Wall Street schemes to make money on it. He was never in favor of Cap and Trade.
Please be more specific of your criticism of Romney on illegal immigration, he has never been for the kind of things that Rick Perry is doing in Texas, in fact just the opposite. Please don’t confuse Romney’s term here with Duval Patrick’s. Patrick rescinded all of Romney’s work with the MA State Police to control illegal criminals. Our illegals are not happy mexicans living on both sides of the border to pick crops, they are people who are here to reap the free stuff democrats and liberals will give them. They also do not conform to the sophisticated societal norms Mass residents expect, especially, they do not learn how to drive like an American, and they drink and drive and cause heinous accidents. Many work under the table, or did before this recession, and wire their money to foreign countries. Some of those do go back, but usually they bring over more illegal relatives, and then, there are anchor babies here. That is the state of things here, which make Rick Perry’s neighborly ideas about illegals make us wretch.
MA also has many legal immigrants who work in the technology sector, and people can be of whatever opinion they want on foreign engineers and scientists coming here to work, but in general they are not poor, they are educated, pay their own way, and think the Massachusetts public school system STINKS. Their wives are ladies, who keep tidy children. The liberals who run companies in MA don’t use their own dollars to educate their employees in the areas that need it, they just sign up for the H-1 special visas list. If we want immigrants, these are the people to invite, personally, I would rather see Americans re trained…engineers lose their freshness and are thrown away about 5 years later if they don’t keep up, and currently there are American’s who are engineers without jobs.
I wondered if you could put a citation as to where or what you heard about Romney and illegals, so I could read it for myself, blog innuendo isn’t enough for me, I would rather have a link and a citation.
2.You ask why Romney doesn’t talk more about health care, and he has said many times the law was for coverage, not an attempt at changing the cost for consumers, because at the time, none of us here paid our own plans except self employed and small businesses. None of us had co pays, some people chose HMO’s which had been very creative at the time controlling costs and offering almost everything imaginable to their members. Few people here complained like they do in other states that they hated their insurance, because our insurance covered everything and your employer self insured or paid the whole bill. During the Dukakis era, we had voted for Universal Coverage…which didn’t materialize…there were always referendum uprisings here about turning all health care into Single Payer, because of that fascination liberals have with National Health in Europe.
None of this makes a cheerful sound bite that the media will repeat for you. The liberals were forcing universal coverage in our legislature, and covering the 8% was the answer. The legislature wanted (Medicaid) the government to pay for them, they wanted everyone to have Cadillac plans like the people with nice benefits from their employer had. Notice that Barach Obama is the same, he does not want just hospitalization for your catastrophic illness, he wants a cadillac plan for everyone, and doesn’t care who pays for it.
Romney made them look at what people could pay and how much insurance that would buy. Before this, there was no market for this, the insurance companies had no incentive to create a few niche policies for a small number of people when they had plenty of paid-for business from the big employers. That is what Mitt means when he says, look for Market solutions. The mandates on our insurance companies come from the legislature and usually our attorney general, not from our Governor, but thru a state insurance regulator and some committees. These things have not much to do with Mitt Romney. If Obama care is said to be modeled on Massachusetts practices, this is where I would look for the modeling. Nothing from the 70 pages of the health care bill here. It will cost Massachusetts TONS to come up to Obama Care standards, including expanding Medicaid. Did you know because of that we got a Cornhusker Kickback? a Louisiana purchase? a state that has 99% coverage already? Duval Patrick and John Kerry requested it.
Romney is not a whiner, and I simply do not expect him to whine about how Duval Patrick and the liberals in the legislature have implemented health insurance laws here. For one, we didn’t have a penalty here for the mandate until recently. At first you just took your personal deduction on your tax form if you paid for your insurance, and you took it even if someone else paid for your insurance. In MA we can also take a deduction for rent, if you don’t own a home, it was like that. At first there were all kinds of encouraging programs to help business start providing insurance for their employees, but our legislature could not be counted on for long to be nice to business. Do you know Scott Brown’s Truck? as a campaign issue it is a symbol here in MA. People in small business, with a truck, or maybe two or three have a target on their back for elimination, and when you hear things like, last one turn off the lights, that is the kind of thing they put up with to keep a truck on the road for their business. Is it any wonder there is only between 8-13% Republican party registration left here in MA? It is amazing to me there are even that many of us.
So to conclude this post, and address Marshall, Mitt is out there every day, campaigning, and the journalists that follow him, much like the foolish questioners on last nights sleepy npr debate are looking for strange things and when they don’t see them they are silent. A good example would be in July, before the Cut Cap and Balance vote in the House, Mitt was out front talking about this all the time. The media never told you. He held an economic roundtable for a Rotary group, it was on video. The news reported that Mitt’s handlers would not let in enough liberal reporters and democrat audience members to ask the dumb questions; and the dumbest question of the day that day got the headline in the LA times: Mitt says he can work with democrats. Not, Mitt supports the House Cut Cap and Balance bill, or even anything brilliant he said at the round table discussion. For us it is not new, we don’t read the liberal news Glob here, and we know what the spin will be, but they bait you out there in fly over country, and you fall for it instead of looking for the facts yourself.
I know it’s dull and boring to read the 57 points, to look for primary resources on line like videos of actual events…good god, the media didn’t bother to tell us, that Mitt was actually THERE at the values voters summit where the anti-Mormon slurs happened.
Unlike the sour posters here, I am vowing to defeat Obama at the polls, and yes if mickey mouse we find out is an evangelical christian, I will even vote for him. I do see more of a concern about who ELSE rushes to power when a Romney or a Perry or a Cain gets the office. I don’t want former Bush era people in there either, but I think it is thru congressional and senate elections that we are going to be able to influence the new president and the changes in the government, and with a tea party keeping some of them straight, it might not matter who is president, as long as it is not a democrat. Please chat and ask me questions, I don’t mind at all. But I only have time to type once per day.
Mitt Romney is better than the rest of the uneducated, right wing extremists vying for the GOP nomination. Romney is actually sane (as well as Huntsman and Gingrich).
Aaaand he gets the Democrat endorsement. That’s bound to help his bid for the nomination.
Here’s a fun fact: it’s establishment Republicans like Romney, along with estalblisment Democrats, who bear all the responsibility for the the economic mess we’re in right now. The Tea Party contingent (you know, the ones you refer to as right-wing extremists) are the only significant political force in America whose hands are utterly clean in this mess. They’re the only ones who’ve made realistic proposals, such as Cut Cap & Balance, for cleaning up the mess left by the establishmentarian types. Had it passed, it is absolutely certain that the unprecedented credit downgrade brought on by all those years of irresponsible profligacy would not have occurred.
Or maybe you can show us your preferred solution for balancing the budget. Please provide hard numbers to back it up, the way the architects of CC&B have done. If you do, you’ll be one step ahead of the Democrat wonderboys in Washington.
