Obama govt jobs bill falls short in Senate; Dems Tester & Ben Nelson vote no

Obama wanted a vote on the jobs bill NOW.

The Senate GOP minority moved for an immediate up-or-down vote tonight.

Harry Reid, knowing defeat was imminent and that some Senate Democrats were balking at the bill, jumped up and down like Rumpelstiltskin before Mitch McConnell moved to a procedural vote. The Reid bill included a new 5.6 percent surtax on “millionaires.”

The cloture vote just wrapped up: Two Dems — Jon Tester of Montana and Ben Nelson of Nebraska, both facing re-election next year — joined the GOP in blocking the bill.

The vote is being held open for NH Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, who is out of state, but expected to return to D.C. later tonight.

No matter. A majority opposes the underlining bill.

President Re-run’s on the ropes again.
