    That is the underlying problem for everything this government is doing TO its citizens. It is Ruling Class versus Citizen and most of the Repubs are part of the scheme. The rest of the story is the media’s involvement and voter ignorance.

    Bypass surgery care is based on protocol. Its the ultimate cookbook medicine. If you deviate from the protocol, you have to justify why it is a deviation. (they kill you with paperwork) If you deviate too much, then you get your bypass program a bad rating and the bypass program can be canceled. A re-admit in a short time is the ultimate deviation and all sorts of quality control people step in. Unfortunately, if the patient does not fit the protocol, it becomes difficult.

    You can thank medicare for this, because they equate outcome numbers (days in hospital, complications, re-admits) with quality of care. You cannot measure the good eye of the doctor (“even though the numbers are ok, he doesnt look right”), and you get penalized for keeping someone extra days. Higher risk patients may not even get surgery because of the fear of the surgeon deviating from the norm with complications.

    In most cases, the primary care doctor has little say in the hospital course of a bypass patient, or their discharge, and cannot even write orders without the permission of the surgeon. Its ironic that the doctor that knows the patient is reduced to a small voice in his/her care.

    Im sorry to hear about your family member’s illness and wish them well.

    And the reason they won’t get their way is that the leftist CA government, only succeeding on the precarious condition that the state GOP leadership continues to succeed in frustrating the attempts by the very many Republican and conservative voters to take back the party. We can’t do that if they continue to be propped up by the national GOP. (e.g. McPalin endorsing Fiorina and Rombama stuffing his biggest fund raiser and Van Jones BFF Meg Whitman down our throats.     What is truly unnerving is that that a minimum of 45% of our fellow citizens, the “wards of the state”, will vote for him in the 2012 election.

    This needs to be turned around or the republic won’t be able to survive in the long term.

    With her absent from the Republican field, we are getting to see a lot more about the current state of the GOP. Although she is still out there fighting for the cause, you can tell that by not having her plank in the race, the structure is weakened. What we’re not hearing in the debates from that 9th podium behind which stands no candidate is louder than what we are hearing from the other 8. The GOP establishment might have been scared of the spider, but they may just find out that there a lot more bugs now that the spider is not there.
